Draw the shear force diagram and bending moment diagram for the airplane
wing shown below.

An I section 350 x 150 mm has a web thickness of 10 mm and a flange
thickness of 20 mm. If the shear force acting on the section is 40 kN. Examine
the shear stress distribution in the section.

A hollow shaft with diameter ratio 3:8 is required to transmit 500 kW at 100
rpm, the maximum torque being 20 % greater than the mean torque. The
11 maximum shear stress is not to exceed 60 N/mm 2 and the twist in a length of 3 CO4 L3
m is not to exceed 1.40. Determine the diameters of the shaft

A close coiled helical spring is to carry a load of 1 kN. Its mean coil diameter is
to be 10 times the wire diameter. Calculate these diameters, if the maximum

12 stress in the material of spring is 90 N/mm . Also, find the stiffness of the CO4 L3
spring. Assume G = 8.4 x 104 N/mm2.

A SSB of length 6 m, carries point load of 3 kN and 6 kN at a distance of 2 m

A solid circular shaft transmits 75 kW power at 200 rpm. Calculate the shaft
15 diameter, if the twist of the shaft is not to exceed 10 in a shaft of length 2 m CO4 L3
and the shear stress is not to exceed 50 N/mm2. Take G = 100 kN/mm2
Or
A hollow shaft is to transmit 300 kW at 80 rpm. If the shear stress is not to
16 exceed 60 N/mm2 and the internal diameter is 0.6 times the external diameter, CO4 L2
determine the diameters
