Nature of dance

1. Folk Dance
 Are traditional dances of a country which evolved naturally and
spontaneously in connection with everyday activities and experiences of
the people who developed them. Folk Dancing is the heartbeat of the
people. Folk dancing preserves culture and history and passes it on to the
next generation. Through this we pass on ideas, values and knowledge
which was experienced and gained by our ancestors.

2. Classical Ballet
 Developed from 16th Century court dance. The word “ballet” and the word
“ball”- a dance party- are derived from the Italian “ballare” meaning “to
dance”. Classical ballets are composed in four main parts: adage, female
and male variations, and the grand allegro. Ballet is usually accompanied
by music. Its purpose is to use movement to express the music and to
illuminate human emotion and endeavor.
3. Ballroom
 Popular couple dances without set patterns are classified as social and
ballroom dances. Most ballroom dances are characterized by the man
leading and the woman partner following whatever steps, styling, and
rhythmic variations he chooses and indicates. It is less threatening to their
young developing bodies compared to many sports such as football and
basketball. Ballroom dancing provides general conditioning for the body.
Ballroom dance improves health and fitness without working out and can
improve cardiovascular health.

4. Contemporary Dance
 Means several things. First, and most generally, contemporary dance
means all dance currently being created by living choreographers and
performed at this time, no matter the genre: modern, jazz, lyrical, and
classical ballet. Contemporary dance let the dancers express his or her
inner emotions and tells a story to the audience
5. Hip-Hop
 Originated from a cultural movement that began in the 1970's and made
popular by dance crews in the United States. The Hip-Hop dance styles
incorporate break dancing, bone breaking, locking, popping,krumping and
more. Hip-Hop dance is very energetic, expressive and social. This dance
gathers an audience to entertain a crowd of people. Through this dance
the performer can express his or her feelings and emotion.
