Q#1- Explain the meaning of education?


The word education has been derived from Latin words
Educare, Educarum, or Educere. Education and Educare means to
train, work hard, to bring up and to nourish. This can also mean
that Education is extrinsic, or to put in from outside. In my words,
Education is a process of gaining knowledge, learning skills, the
training of mind, behavior, character and Practices of educating a
mind.

Q#2- Define education in the light of the following educationists:

a. Two educationists from ancient era.


b. Two educationists from medieval era.

ANCIENT ERA:
(Aristotle)
“Education is the creation of a sound mind in a sound body. It develops
man’s faculty specially his mind so that he may be able to enjoy the
contemplation of supreme truth, goodness and beauty”
- By this definition Aristotle meant that Education is something that is
assessed by the capacity to train body, mind and soul. He simply

meant that the aim of education was the welfare of the individuals, as
to bring happiness in their lives.
(Plato)
“Education is the process of organization of a healthy society.”
- By this definition Plato meant that you get educated as means to
achieve justice, both individual and social justice. He thinks we get
educated in means to create unity in a society, with a righteous
political order.

MEDIEVAL ERA:
( Jean Jacques Rousseau)
“Education is the child’s development from within.”
- In this definition Jean is telling us the importance of producing a
free-thinking child, who’s well balanced. He also believed if children
when to develop naturally without any limitations by the society, they
will develop to the fullest in both educational and moral ways.
(John Locke)
“The goal of education is to create a virtuous man”
- In this definition John means that moral education is more important
the than other kinds of education, he thought the purpose of
education is to create an individual with a sound mind or body. So,
they can serve the country well, who aren’t passionate but obeys the
reason to do a particular thing.
Q#3- Which educationist/s say about the man's inborn qualities/
characteristics while explaining?
John Milton:

“Education prepares the individual to cope with individual and collective
responsibilities during peace and war”
Friedrich Froebel:
“Education is enfoldments of what is already enfolded in the germ. It is the
process through which the child makes internal external”
