SPOKEN POETRY
GUIDELINES
1. Spoken word is a piece of creative writing that is best delivered through performance, so
it can be a story, poetry, or some combination. The piece must be your own creative
writing, but you can quote other writers. If you reference other authors, your performance
must include verbal citations.
2. To enter the contest, you must be a bona fide Junior High school student of the Nansing
School of Cauayan City. Each grade shall provide minimum of one (1) participant.
3. Your spoken word piece must be 2-5 minutes long. If it doesn't meet the 2-minute
minimum, the performer will be ineligible to place 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. If it goes past 5
minutes, expect to be cut off.
4. For grades 7-8 piece shall be given, for grades 9-10, an original composition is
required.
5. Your spoken word performance is in line with this year's theme “Humanity tells a story:
What's YOUR chapter?”
6. You may use costumes, props, sounds, instruments, or musical background, and visual
aids to share your spoken word performance. You are also welcome to include dialogue
and act out characters. No deduction shall be made if the contestant opts not to have a
musical background.
7. The spoken poetry may be delivered from memory or with a copy at hand.
8. If you have questions about the nature of the competition, its rules, or are looking for
some advice on composing a spoken word performance, feel free to contact the assigned
committee.
9. Each contestant must submit a PDF/Document copy of the piece and a 2 to 3-minute
recorded video of the delivery of the piece on or before 12 noon of September ____,
2021.
