Activity 1.2 Critical Thinking Questions: (Pls. use separate paper/s for your answers) 1.

1. How is zoology related to biology? What unifying principles are shared between these two
fields?

• Well, both are related since biology is basically a field that study or tackles the life and living
organisms that includes their functions, growth, chemical process, taxonomy, development,
evolution, structure, distribution, and many more of living things. Then one of the divisions of
biology is ZOOLOGY in which it’s devoted in the study of animal life. Thus, it explains that
zoology is related to biology since both are connected and conducts study about life in the first
place.
• The unifying principles both zoology and biology shared are:
1. EVOLUTION (The change in the characteristics of species and organisms overtime)
2. ECOLOGY (The relationship of organisms to their environmental and to one another)
3. GENETICS (The transmissions of traits from one generation to the next)
4. BIOCHEMISTRY (The study of chemicals in biology and biochemical reaction that supports life in
all organisms)
5. STRUCTURAL BIOLOGY (The study of how molecules are built)
6. POPULATION BIOLOGY (The study of population characteristics and the factors that affects their
sizes and distribution)
7. CELL BIOLOGY (The study of structure and functions of cells)
8. MOLECULAR BIOLOGY (The study of chemical structures and process of biological phenomena
involves the basic unit of life, molecule)
2. Admist the ecological problems we are facing today, what means and ways should you take in
helping to encourage everyone for ecologically-minded resource use?

• Human is the very sole reason why earth is greatly suffering in this generation it’s facing a great
environmental problems such as global warming, air and water pollution, ozone layer depletion,
animal extinction, climate change, improper waste disposal, and many more problems that
causes a dangerous impact in humans, animals, and other living things. It is really difficult to
encourage someone to be ecologically minded in using resources in this present state because
there’s a possibility that they might not apply it or openly realize the importance of it, but for
the sake to make the world a better place we still encourage everyone and hope that one or
more would realize the importance of our words.
1. I would greatly encourage everyone to start planting trees because the benefits of it is very
totally helpful (provide habitat, gives fresh air, produce foods, etc.) and tell my fellow youth to
join programs about TREE PLANTING one of it is PNPCSI (Philippine Native Plants Conservation
Society, Inc.) or any programs that are available in their place because it’s a simple act that gives
huge help in the environment plus it shows how you value and love our mother earth and it can
also help patching the loss trees caused by mining, deforestation, illegal logging, and other
illegal doings.
2. I encourage them by doing “ECOLOGICAL LAND USE” and “ECOLOGICAL MANAGEMENT” in
which it maintains habitat quality and connectivity for all species, it also conserves plus protect
natural resources, and supports biodiversity.
3. Proper waste disposal and management is very important especially in this generation so I’ll
encourage them to be mindful of their own waste. This can be done by also applying the 3 R’s
(Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) that will lessen the vast waste being produced, it can help extending
the use of natural resources, help environment, save the marine life, and many more.
4. Encouraging the youth to put signs in the forest or any places that’s a habitat of animals to be
able to deliver the message to stop “ILLEGAL WILDLIFE TRADE” and “ANIMAL TRAPPING” for
money and hobby purposes we can also report someone who undergoes in this horrible actions,
educate the young but over all everyone about how it affects the environment and animals and
tell them to support and care the livings in the forest. In doing this we might get a chance to
stop this wildlife trading and trapping that is the great main reason of extinction in animal life.
5. Telling and encouraging them to start conserving natural resources such as:
• using water supply wisely and responsibly to protect the water for the next generation to come
and to refrain from water pollution
• Walk or ride, you can even use public transportation to help heal the environment (saves
money, reduce climate change, increase energy sustainability, etc.)
• Conserve electricity in which it helps on using less fossil fuels, less pollution , saves money, less
chance of radiation pollution, etc There are many natural resources we need to conserve to help
our environment safe from any harmful effects, so as far as as possible we must encourage
everyone to become mindful in natural resources.

• Lastly, is the marine life which is the very first means of livelihood in my place. I will encourage
my family (fisherman), my friends, and everyone to stop throwing plastics and waste in the sea
instead act and pick-up waste being dumped in the shores, use approved fishing nets for fishing
to avoid catching juvenile fish, stop over exploitation so that in the next generation the
abundance of marine life is still present, and lastly stop using fishing grenades to avoid marine
destructions (of corals, sea plants, fishes, etc.).
There are many ways to encourage someone to become ecologically minded in using resources,
we all have different ways to save mother earth and restore the destruction caused by the
humans so I highly appreciate people who still do their best to make the world a better place so
don’t be afraid to raise your voice about your concerns because it’s good to help in many ways
especially in our Mother Earth.

Food for Thought

Life is a fragile state that is totally dependent on its environment. In someway, how committed
are you in preserving the earths resources that sustain life for living organisms?

• Well, I’m highly committed in preserving the earths natural resources because my lifestyle is
very economically friendly and as I observed closely my family is very strict we conserve every
natural resources we encounter and use (water resource, electricity resource, fuel resource, etc.)
because for them it helps lessen our daily bills they’re oblivious that they also give a great
helping hand in the environment. As a student I’ve been also into joining programs such as
cleaning and helping the marine life, “BARANGAY PROGRAMS” such as BAYANIHAN in which
we generally clean our barangay surroundings and respected homes, we also plant (flowers and
trees) to help the environment and to also have a pleasing surroundings. Together with my
family we loving having a garden so we could produce our own and healthy food, my mother
makes sure that we use paper bags or tote bags in the house or even going out for the market,
we put 3 sacks for the 3 R’s purpose to have a organize and proper waste bins. I live in a eco
friendly family and neighborhood so I really love and adore what’s around me the things I’ve
been doing is both fun and helpful and I know by doing it means a great help not just in the
environment but also for the youth to see how it is important to ecologically minded and be also
to good role model. I’m
