Raymond Classifier

Name: Aman Agrawal

Roll No:18CH30003

Instructor:
Prof. Manish Kaushal

Prof. Monojit Chakraborty

Aim:

To Find the effectiveness of the classifier, using size and density as the factor to classify

Theory:

As particles are ground smaller they reach a size where the surface drag against the
surrounding fluid almost neutralizes the gravitational pull, with the result that the
particle may need hours, or even days, to fall a few inches through still water.
By superimposing centrifugal force, the gravitational pull can be increased from 50 to
500 times depending on the pressure at which the pulp is fed and the size of the
vessel.
The Raymond Classifier is one which utilizes centrifugal force to accelerate the settling
rate of particles.
The Raymond classifier separate the coarse and fine particles by centrifugal force
As the classifier starts to rotate the lighter particle rotate inside the inner drum and the
heavier particle rotate inside the outer difference due to the density difference thus
separating the two units of particles

The feed is also enters to the classifier through the conveyewr type system to evenly
pass the feed to the classifier.

Calculation:
Effectiveness of screen =Recovery * Rejection
=𝑋𝑝(𝑋𝑝 − 𝑋𝑟)/(𝑋𝑓(𝑋𝑓 − 𝑋𝑟))
= 0.47(0.47-0.0107)/(0.26(0.26-0.0107))
= 3.33

Results:
Effectiveness of the Raymond classifier came out to be 3.33
Discussion:
Duration of sieve vibration is varied after classification as too much of sieve
vibration can cause clogging in the sieve thus further loss of particles. This
can be due to, as in Raymond classifier we are taking very fine particles
Classifier duration should not also be too much as the time increase
centrifugal nature also forces the inner drum particles to came out
As the crusher we discuss like roll crusher or ba ll mill can only separate
particle through size distribution but in the case of Raymond classifier
density also plays a very important role in classification
Effectiveness of classifier as we obtained can we more efficient by having
difference in density of particle of coarse and fine grain to be much bigger
Impeller devices with high density and high precision increase more than
50% of finished product yield under the same power.
Unique air circulation system with advanced dust remover carries the
environmental protection concept through to the end.
