Module 12 Assignment 1
Why visiting historical sites, shrines, landmarks, and museums important in the study of
history? How has your previous experience of visiting a specific landmark or museum
helped you in understanding of a historical fact or event.

Answer:

As we all know, a lot of people usually young generations really don’t like history. Honestly
speaking, we do have a lot of reasons on why we don’t like history. One of the reasons might be
because it’s boring but as time goes by, we learned the art of history. In learning the art of
history, our professors played a vital role because they are the one who introduced the
beginning of history that is written on books. As a student, we should appreciate them because
of how they instilled their passion on history to us.

In the study of history, reading historical textbooks is one of the common ways we do in order
to gain a knowledge regarding a certain historical event but that isn’t enough when you really
want to study history. Remembering the past, our professors used to plan on going for tours
like visiting historical sites, shrines, landmarks and museums in order for us to analyze places
where history occurred. In that case, I started to love and appreciate history. Visiting historical
places is really important because it connects us in different aspects. In my own experience,
visiting those places helped me find our beginning or so-called “roots”. It made me feel like we
are part of something much bigger than what we are living in right now. It also helped me to
have deeper understanding about other cultures especially in connecting with people with
regards to our similarities and differences.

In my previous experience, I can say that it really made a big impact on me especially in
understanding an historical event. It made me realize how important it is to thoroughly look on
different perspectives on why that event was supposed to be known to the present and future
generations. For me, landmark and museums played a vital role when it comes to a deep
understanding of events that has shaped us into where we are now that’s why visiting them will
always give us a feeling of inspiration. Visiting those places had made a big impact in different
aspects such as how do people give value on those historical sites in the preservation of our
history and culture.
