Questions:
1. What is the importance of learning the stratification flow and chart in our
society?
- The importance of learning the stratification flow and chart in our society is for us
to know the way people are ranked and ordered in our society and for us to
determine the groups that most likely to gain access to financial resources and
forms or privilege. Also, for us to know where we categorized based on how rich
or poor we are.
2. How is social class different from each other?
- Social class different from each other in terms of financial resources/income.
The lower class consists of people who work but earn a little income. Middle
class consists of people who are employed and have enough income without
compromising their basic needs. And the upper class is composed of people
who holds the highest social status, usually are the wealthiest members of class
society. Moreover, social class is more than just how much money you have. It’s
also the clothes you wear, the school you go, and a strong influence on how ypu
interact with others.

LEARNING ACTIVITY 4: IT’S TIME TO WRITE (Reflective Essay)

In a minimum of 250 words, write an essay by answering the following question: How do
social stratification differences affect your life as a Senior High School student?

As a Senior High School Student, living in unequal society causes me stress and
decreases my confidence level. Also, it affects how I see those around me and my
level of happiness. I personally feel incredibly overwhelmed and disgusted as I
delve deeper into the details of social stratification, and much more so when
discussing issues and politics that are currently affecting stratification in my life as
a Senior High School student. For instance, income inequality in our class/school,
we may be studying in the same school but we differ in social class. Such as
small fraction of our population is in possession of more money than they could
ever dream of spending, and the rest, including myself are struggling just to
survive. In that case, income inequality increases the social distance between me
and my other schoolmates which makes me believe that they are different from
me. This makes me less likely to trust them and to build relationships with them
because they are wealthy students and I'm just a student who is short of money,
wants to graduate and to be happy but my level of happiness and confidence was
decreased because of that inequality. Such as sometimes there are students who
just want to get along with those like them who are rich and ignore the poor ones.
Not only is this difference extreme and unfair, but it’s also fueling the cycle of class
inequality. Peer pressure in school is real, social stratification is real too, know
your focus in campus. Academic pressure never gets better on you, but it's up to
you to get better on it, here you will meet all sought of pressure and if you're faint
hearted you can't survive, survival is for the fittest.
REF LECTION

● I learned that Social Stratification is defined as “the hierarchical structures of

class and status in any society”. These structures defined whole societies
and even eras in history. They continue to exist today but they have
changed to meet the new standards of society in our modern world. Society
compares and ranks individuals and groups on the basis of some
differences in values it attaches to different roles. When individuals and
groups are ranked according to some commonly accepted basis of
valuation, in a hierarchy of status levels based upon inequality of social
position, we have social stratification. There are 3 systems of stratification,
the Caste system, estate, otherwise known as the feudal system, and the
class system. Each system sorts people into a status and defines how they
should live in their society. Moreover, all three systems have a high class,
middle class, and lower class and they all distinguish what someone can do
and can’t do in their society. The lower you are in class the less power you
have and the higher you are in class the most power you have. The caste
system, the estate system, and the class system all exemplify these societal
norms.
● I enjoyed most on making a reflective essay, knowing that social
stratification differences have a negative impact to students and I seem to
have understood better about the social stratification differences. Also, I
enjoyed reading and understanding the characteristics of social
stratification. And because of that, I learned something. The two kind of
consequences: (i) Life chances and (ii) Life style.
Life chances refer to such things as infant mortality, longevity, physical and
mental illness, marital conflict, separation and divorce. Life styles include
the mode of housing, residential area, education, means of recreation,
relation between parent and children, modes of conveyance and so on.
● I want to learn more about the types of social stratification and its three
social classes because there are still things I do not understand very well.
