The course provides students with basic principles of the design of dams and its appurtenant structures. At the
end of the course, Students will be able to:
• Select the appropriate type of dams for a given site
• Design and Analyze the Stability of dams and Check and appreciate safety of dams
• Design and Analyze of dam appurtenant and their outlet structures
• Plan and design the various energy dissipation Structures.
• Know the lay out, types and components of Hydropower schemes.

A. COURSE REGULATION
 Attendance: it is compulsory to come to class on time and every time. If students are
going to miss 85% of the class during the term, they shall not be allowed to sit the final exam,
 Assignments: students must do their individual and group assignments and submit on or before
the due date as specified by the instructor.
 Tests/Quizzes: instructors should give short quizzes and tests as appropriate as possible.
 Cheating: students must do their own work and should not copy answers from someone else.

B. COMMITMENTS OF INSTRUCTOR & STUDENTS


 Preparedness: students must come to class prepared by bringing the appropriate materials like handouts
, worksheets , exercises given , text books, , assignments and Calculator. They have to Plan
and use their time for independent work, group work and home study effectively.
 Participation: students are expected to be active participation during class sessions.
 Coordination: instructors shall play a pivotal role in facilitating the teaching and learning
processes both in the class room and in office consultation hours.
