WHAT ARE THE FIVE EXTERNAL FACTORS AFFECTING LANGUAGE

CHANGE?
Languages are constantly changing as the world revolves from time to
time considering that change is inevitable. People are holding their distinct
language reflecting their own identity and as they move closer to the diverse
world numerous factors build up changes to our original one. There are five
main factors affecting language change in external manner namely; political,
social, cultural, technological and moral.
1. Political and Economic Factor
Beyond the changes on language is brought by political and economic
attributes through the forms of migration, invasion and colonization. These
given aspects pave the way and brought numerous changes on the formation of
languages and enhancement.
Migration and foreign involvement. People tend to build and channel
connections worldwide thru living on other country. They are able to adopt and
embrace cultures through it they transpire to make a sort of enhancement and
changes.
Colonization and invasion. History speaks on how every races and
archipelagos became what they are today- diverse in culture, traditions and
even some sort of language enrichment. Just like how our national language
and even native languages of the Philippines harness and utilize some adopted
words from foreign.
2. Social Factor
It is considered that changes through political, technological and cultural
is because of social factor. Indeed, every changes begins from society where
people get to discover newly formed words and terminologies as they live.
Social changes produce changes in language. This affects values in ways
that have not been accurately understood. Language incorporates social
values. However, social values are only the same as linguistic values when the
society is a stable and unchanging one. Once society starts changing, then
language change produces special effects.
3. Cultural Factor
Culture is language-intrinsic. Language refers to common perceptions
and histories, and these stories produce terms that are unique to our culture.
Language is not only words, but pronunciations, sounds, and specific
dialects as well. Culture forms both of these portions of a language. Meanwhile,
culture is influenced by common interactions, atmosphere, and history.
Language, as it evolves, is produced and influenced by the needs of a society.
This implies that language and culture are fluid, moving to reflect each other
and the world's evolving environment.

4. Technological Factor

Our language is ever-changing, evolving all the time as words fall out of
use or acquire new meanings. Technology has shaped language in many ways
over the last decades.

We are getting used to the concept of changing what we can do and how
we do things by rapidly evolving technologies. What most people haven't
noticed is how innovations impact our language and how the way we speak
and even the way we think are influenced by these changes.

The rapid advancement of technology is firmly embraced by people and

used it to discover and ascertain things that will change and even enrich
language.

Technology can be one of the ways to create real and enjoyable

atmosphere for young language learners when it is used correctly and
effectively. Technology lets young language learners gain language skills
outside the classroom when they interact actively.

Moreover, language is always evolving but technology probably increases

the rate of evolution. The ability to communicate and travel (enabled by
technology) brings more people into contact with different languages, and some
aspects of technology (mobile phones with texting and emoji’s) are changing the
way people speak and write.

5. Moral Factor

Our behaviour and the way we think changes the conceptualization of

language. Our collective imagination has a heavy grip on the concept of
an objective sense of right and wrong," and it is one that is fundamental
to many major religions and individual beliefs.

These factor lies with the domain of what we see and what we adopt
and triggers our perceptions which will lead to a basis to whether to
adopt or not.
According to (Beard 2004), moral factor is about recent developments
in anti-racism and environmentalism it means that the concept that we
adopt from other needs to be respected.
