CASE ANALYSIS

Directions: Immersing in a chosen community is not an easy task. It requires knowledge, skills and
attitudes which assure that a trainee could properly respond to community needs. But another important
thing to consider is how manageable are the community situation and environment. The following can be
possible scenarios in the community during project implementation. As a trainee, how will you respond to
the following situations? Divide amongst your group members the different situations and collate all your
reactions for the week’s requirement.
1. You are interviewing the head of a household during a community needs assessment survey
when all of the sudden all other family members started hanging around your interview area.
Children started to be noisy. They climb at your back and pull your arms. Their parents or
guardians seemed unaware that the children were already bothering you. They went on telling
their story to you about the community. What will you do so that you can better facilitate the
interview?
I'll draw the parents’ attention and instruct them to gather their children in a safe location,
preferably outside the house or in a room, and to tell them to behave. They are free to interact with one
another and they will remain in that position for the duration of the interview so that I can complete it.
2. You are implementing a free tutorial session every Saturday to 15 elementary students so that
you could assist them in their studies. You have planned well your budget and have already
assigned task for each person in your group. One day, some parents came and approached
your group. They expressed that the tutorial services have contributed to a great extent in
reinforcing student learning. They were happy to see college students helping DDU’s. They
praised you for your high standard of education and told you that they wished their children
could be just like you when they grow up. but they also asked whether their children could be
part of the tutorial service. Despite that you are really following the terms of your MOA and
project proposal, what will be your next action regarding this situation?
I'd like to thank them for their compliments because it means a lot to me because it
validates all of my hard work and sacrifices. In regards to their request, I will inform my superior of
the parents request, as education is truly unstoppable for those who truly wish to learn and participate.
In that case, I'll update and revise my memorandum of agreement to reflect their concerns and requests
and also the same for the project proposal.
3. During your regular community visits you encountered a member of the barangay council. He
came to you and said to you in front of many people, that he was not informed of the project
you are undertaking. Although you remembered that this particular council member was not
present when you pad a courtesy call to the barangay leaders. What will you do to convince
him and the rest of the community of your good intentions?
I'll remind the barangay council that the chairman was already aware of the absence of the
Brgy. Council at the previous meeting. I'd also inform him that I'd been granted permission to
participate in the group tour. If the Brgy. Council has some concerns; I'll direct him to the chairman.
And if he insists, I'll summon the chairman himself to speak with us so that the three of us can better
interact.

4. A client approached you while you were facilitating a “Family Day” affair in a child care
center. He asked for your number and said that he would really like to invite you out for
dinner. You know pretty well that he is asking you out for a date. How will you deal this
situation?
As far as I wanted to say no, I probably say yes. I just don’t want to hurt his feelings and turn
him down in an instant. And while having the date, I’ll ask him direct to the point what’s his intentions
towards me. It depends on his answers whether it is good or bad.

5. A young boy suddenly took off his t-shirt in front of you and the other children that you are
accompanying for the day. You were discussing to them about good moral character when at
the same time he loudly yawned as if to challenge your position on the subject. Other children
started to laugh. The child care center supervisor was attending to a task when it happened.
What would be your next action?

I will properly demonstrate to that child that respect is a valuable life value and that doing so
again would result in negative outcomes. If the child persists, I will tell his or her parents of his or her
child's behavior so that appropriate corrective measures can be taken.

6. The community you were serving was unfortunately razed by a fire. You gathered your
members and organized a relief operation to momentarily attend to their basic needs by
mobilizing some of your school’s resources. You were dispensing the goods when you realize
that people from a nearby community not affected of the fire were lining up to receive some
relief. Some family members of the community were able to get twice as much relief goods.
Despite your good intentions, what could have been possibly done to avert the situation? What
could you still do after finding out what was happening?

First and foremost, I will compile a master or a residential list of the residents in the community
who had been affected by the fire. If a resident in line is not on the master's list, he or she will not be
provided with relief items. Even if any unincluded residents had gotten through the system and
collected donations. I'll contact the police and the fire department to assist me in resolving the
situation.

7. The project that would be implementing will be held during weekdays. This will be in
conflict with some of your other academic classes also scheduled during weekdays. Other
groups in the class will be implementing their projects as well so everyone was already tasked
to do something. What can be best done to address this situation? What do you think the
community people will do in response to your action?

Ask them nicely that there will be a conflict of schedules. And came up with a good solution like
re-sched the schedules or have a meeting with the involved people with that matter. I think the
community people will understand that the projects are re-sched since we are still students.
