Spaniards have arrived

* According to pigafetta, people have no arms but uses sticks. Poor but ingenious which makes them
creative in survival and he also called them “great thieves.”

* native Filipinos are not poor. It is just that pigafetta’s perspective of rich is different. Since Spaniards
are used to being fully armored and clothed while Filipinos wear what we call is “bahag”

* their arrival in the philipines contributed so much in our history and life. They gave us the legacy of
chiristianity and its practices, the culture and so much more even the architecture of the houses here.

* now, we developed everything from the influence of Spaniards. cooking, the language, our religion,
even most of us have Spanish in our blood.

Arrival in zubu (cebu)

*he described that cebu is the largest and the richest of islands. Pigafetta also defined the people as
“very familiar and friendly.”

* since pigafetta and Magellan haven’t reached other islands yet, for him cebu is the richest. If they
actually reached Palawan, they will realize there’s something more that Philippines could offer. The
beautiful scenery, caves, corals etc.

*we have always been friendly to visitors even in our history. Being welcoming is already in the blood of
the Filipinos. That is that one trait we always had since the beginning.

* if we actually read blogs and/or watch video reviews in the internet, there are multiple times that
tourists and foreigners described us, Filipinos for our hospitality. It is something that comes out
naturally.

Christianisations of cebuanos

They then taught the Filipinos about Christianity and eventually, all of them was baptized into
Christianity. He encouraged the people to burn all the other idols and worship the cross instead. They
actually burned a village down for obeying neither the king nor Magellan

The people weren’t forced to be baptized into Christianity but because they want to. But burning down
a village is completely unnecessary, much more destruction to deal with.

Christianity is something that contributed in our culture and practices. Up until now, we Filipinos
instilled this religion in our life. Masses, services, offerings etc.

Filipinos still performs the way of Christianity. Offerings, masses, kneeling down and praying. Cross in
front of a church and many more.
Death of Magellan

Magellan went to war against Lapulapu, because lapulapu refused the order and did not obey the king.
Magellan brought three boats and went to mactan himself. They arrived and there are like 1500 people
and Magellan only has 49

Magellan was prideful ad thought he could beat and take them down. But he didn’t know lapulapu’s
soldiers are greater than him, and lapulapu was smart enough to know what to target and who to kill
first.
