1X. REFLECTION:
To accurately understand human behavior, psychological scientists must understand the cultural context in which the
behavior occurs and measure the behavior in culturally relevant ways. It is my personal belief that in order for an
individual to become a effective communicator they need to be able to distinguish which types of conversation are
acceptable in specific types of social conditioning. If a person is able to grasp and understand these forms of context
they will be able to master all forms of not only verbal but physical exchanges of information.

Lots of problems can arise from misunderstandings, especially because we live in a multicultural world. By learning and
understanding different cultures you understand why people do things the way they do. When you identify with other
people, you sympathize with their situation.

It's a powerful tool in enabling students to gain a better understanding of both their own culture and the cultures of
others. Students therefore develop greater cognitive skills as they learn to engage with and critically evaluate the texts
that they read.

How to cope up with the new situation during corona virus pandemic?

The pandemic has posed unprecedented challenges. Many of us have lost work, gained career responsibilities and
grappled with social isolation. Experts have warned of a looming wave of mental illness as a result. But over time,
people have changed how they have responded to the threat of COVID-19.Coping is the process of responding
effectively to problems and challenges. To cope well is to respond to the threat in ways that minimize its damaging
impact. Coping can involve many different strategies and it’s likely you have your own preferred ones.

Master your time and the day. Introduce order into your daily activities that make a plan of activities for the entire
week. The structure will give you and your children a sense of security and it should be as close to your lifestyle
before the home quarantine as possible. You can make this plan together with your children, and put it in a visible
place so that it is available to all household members. Take care of yourself, eat regularly, exercise, sleep enough
and reduce all other sources of stress. Do things that give you back the control of your own life. Dedicate time to
activities that improve your mood. That can be listening to music, a film, a good book, a hobby you haven't had
time for before.

Be proactive because this attitude gives you the power and control of the uncertain situation. Also, taking care of
yourself will not only help you stay healthy, it will also help you stay calm and focused so that you can adequately
take care of your children. In times of crisis and stress, it is common for children to seek more contact and to be
more demanding towards their parents. Spare yourself the negative information and excessive watching of the
news don't let the information about the development of the epidemic over flood you. At the same time, beware
of misinformation, get your information only from reliable websites and information sources that provide proven
information and advice. Don’t panic. On this link, you can read all you need to know about corona virus to protect
yourself, your children and your family. If you feel severely anxious and unsettled, it is important to know that you
are not alone and that your response is normal and understandable having in mind the situation that the entire
society is in.

We should be able to assess how well we are coping with the pandemic by judging how we’re going compared to
our previous normal. Think of yourself this time last year. Are you drinking more, sleeping poorly or experiencing
fewer positive emotions and more negative emotions now? If the answer to any of these questions is “yes”, then
compared to your previous normal, your coping may not been as good as it could be. But before you judge your
coping critically, its worth considering a few things. Coping isn’t all about how we feel. It’s also about action and
finding a sense of meaning and purpose in life, despite our distress. So remember to cut yourself some slack. For
most people, the pandemic has been a unique challenge. When judging how well we’ve coped we should practice
self-compassion. Let’s not make things worse by criticizing ourselves for failing to cope better.

HOW TO WRITE A COOKBOOK REVIEW?

Have you ever thought about writing a review of one of your favorite cookbooks or one written by your
favorite chef? Would your review be objective?

My passion for collecting cookbooks led me to writing cookbook reviews. I just love browsing through a
cookbook, placing sticky notes on the pages of the recipes I want to make, admiring the photos and reading
the anecdotes (if any). This way I get a feel of the cookbook. By the time I get to the kitchen, I am ready to
cook!

I found it challenging at first to write a cookbook review, but the more cookbook reviews I wrote, the more
impartial I became. Not all cookbook reviews will be identical as authors have different writing styles and
guidelines.

I listed below the basic guidelines I follow when reviewing a cookbook. Be ready to take notes while
researching the cookbook. Write the review in easy to read text. Have fun with it!

READ THE COOKBOOK

Every cookbook tells a story. Read the cookbook from cover to cover. This way you will familiarize yourself
with the story and the author’s writing style. Is the author sharing stories about the origins of the recipes?
What attracted you to the book – the cover’s photography, the title, the color scheme, the text?

CHAPTERS

How are the recipes in the cookbook organized – by ingredients, seasons, appetizers, main courses, desserts?
Does it include Equipment and Ingredients chapters or a Glossary? Are the Table of Contents and Index well
structured? Are the recipes cross-referenced (i.e. does “banana bread” appear under “bananas” and
“bread”)?

THE RECIPES

Study the layout and format of the recipes. Read the entire
recipe. Are the ingredients and the cooking instructions well organized and easy to follow? The ingredients
should be listed in the order they are used in the cooking instructions. Note whether the recipes list any hard
to find ingredients. Do the recipes include footnotes describing any of the ingredients?

TECHNIQUES

Techniques such as chopping, frying, and baking should be well defined. Jot down whether the cookbook
includes any ‘step-by-step’ instructions describing particular cooking techniques.
PHOTOS

The phrase ‘a picture is worth a thousand words’ goes a long way in cookbooks. A photo of the completed
recipe can be enticing! Is there full color photography throughout the book or photos insert?

TEST THE RECIPES

This is the fun part! Select from two to three recipes (appetizers, main meals, desserts). Read the selected
recipes thoroughly. Make sure you have all the required ingredients and equipment at hand before you begin
cooking. Do not make any substitutions or adaptations. Doing so will not result in an accurate review of the
recipe.

Take photos of the completed recipe if you can otherwise you can request the photos from the publisher.
Keep in mind that sometimes the photos you requested might be available to the media.

Note as you follow the cooking instructions:

Were any ingredients omitted?

Were the cooking instructions clear and concise?

Describe the taste, the aroma and the texture.

Was the recipe successful and visually appealing?

Would you make it again?

GIVE CREDIT

If your review includes recipes or photos from the cookbook, request a ‘permission statement’ from the
publisher. This statement acknowledges that you have been granted permission from the publisher to use
the selected photos or recipes. Include the name of the publisher and a link to the publisher’s Web site.

Also add the ISBN number and the cost of the cookbook. Where can the cookbook be purchased – at a retail
bookstore, online retail bookstore or both?

SUMMARY

Express whether or not you recommend the cookbook and the reasons why. Does the cookbook justify the
cost? Was it written for both the novice and seasoned cook? There is a substantial amount of work involved
in writing and publishing a cookbook, so be considerate when writing either positive or negative comments.

The internet provides us with thousands of recipes just by using a few keystrokes, but it cannot replace the
touch and the feel of a cookbook.

I hope you understand the steps very well and clear. If you have a question you're free to approach me just
comment down below. Thank you for watching! I hope to see you on my next blog, goodbye!

1X. REFFECTION ; WRITE DOWN WHAT YOU LEARNED FROM THIS MODULE
An explanatory essay describes your opinion on something, the ideas of another person, a process to follow, or an
event that has taken place. Rather than criticizing the information or debating its validity, you simply explain it and
make it easier for your reader to understand. It helps us to know when to pause, when to read with more expression,
and when to stop and start a new sentence. When we speak, we have multiple ways of making our meaning clear:
rhythm, intonation, pausing appropriately. We don't have that luxury with the written word, so proper punctuation
serves that purpose. The main function of an explanation essay is to clear up the issue of the research, describe it and
reveal the essence of the matter in a brief and coherent way. An essay should have a single clear central idea. Each
paragraph should have a clear main point or topic sentence. Each paragraph should support or expand the central
idea of the paper. The idea of each paragraph should be explained and illustrated through examples, details, and
descriptions. Lastly, phenomenon, in a scientific context, is something that is observed to occur or to exist. This
meaning contrasts with the understanding of the word in general usage, as something extraordinary or outstanding.
