Topic: letter writing

Term 2, Unit 2

Strand: Writing

Attainment Target:

 Develop approaches to the writing process to enable them to organize their ideas into

coherent structure including layout, sections and paragraph.

 Use language and text forms appropriately and with imagination to create vibrant and

engaging texts.

 Write well-constructed paragraphs which have linking sentences within and between

them.

Objectives: Students should be able to


1) Use the pre-writing strategies such brainstorming and graphic organizer to choose a topic

and organize idea. (Cognitive)

2) Identify and use parts of a friendly letter to generate ideas for writing in groups.

(affective)

3) Formulate friendly letters to convey ideas related to grade level experiences/interests.

(psychomotor)

Procedures:

(These procedures are written for the virtual classroom)


Engage: Two students (male and female) will be selected to choose a specific colour

each. After the colours have been selected the topics behind the colours will appear. Students

will brainstorm ideas or share what come to mind base on the topic. Graphic organizer will be

use so students can see what the have said and how it relates to the topics. Afterwards, students

will have to select one topic that they would like to write about. Example of graphic organizer

below.

Explain: Students will watch a video entitled “friendly letter/informal letter song”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRY7TCn1O7M. The video will be placed a second time

which the teacher and students will sing. The video will show the different parts of a friendly.

Students will share or in other words explain the importance of the various parts of a friendly

letter.

Explore: Students will be given an activity to identify the different parts of a friendly letter.

The different structure of the friendly letter will be projected. Students will then instruct the

teacher where the different headings should go on the gingerbread man.

Students will be given three minutes to search on the Internet for a friendly letter and send it in

the chat.

Elaborate:

Students will be place in groups, in each group students will be given two different topics.

With the topics, each student in the group will brainstorm ideas and then formulate a friendly

letter. Students will follow the template to write their friendly letter with the following topic. A

sample of a friendly letter will be shown before.

Evaluate: Students will write a friendly letter to a classmate base on the topic they have

selected as a whole group during the engagement activity. Students should ensure that the letter

has all the required aspects and are encouraged to do pre-writing.
