1. Personal Letter

a. Definition
A personal letter is a type of letter that
usually concerns personal matters and is
sent from one individual to another.

b. Generic Structure
 Place and Date: It tells about the
specific time the letter is written.
 Recipient Address: It contains the
complete postal address of the
receiver of the message.
 Greeting: An interjaction that is
used to open the conversation of
the letter.
 Contents : Several paragraphs
claborates the aim of the letter.
 Writer‟s Hope: It states what the
writer wishes for that the receiver of
the message would do.
 Closing: A signature from the writer
and the proper closing statement.

c. Social Function
To inform the receiver that the sender
wants to tell an important thing like
personal feelings, thoughts, or
experiences.

d. Language Feature
 Focus on exchanging personal current news,
feelings, and conditions
 Use of pronouns, simple present tense, and
past tense
 Use of date and address
 Informal greetings or salutations.

2. Invitation

a. Definition
An invitation is a written or verbal request
inviting someone to go somewhere or to do
something

b. Generic Structure
 Including event title: including the
purpose or type of event will be
held.
 Showing orientation: inform about
what will or who will come.
 Stating date and time: including
when or where the event will be
held.
 Giving closing statement: including
hope of the writer to the reader to
come to his or her event.

c. Social function
The social function is to invite someone
attend or come to an event.

d. Language Features
 Use simple present tense and
future tense sentences.
 The language used in the formal
invitation letter is a variety of official
languages whose purpose is to respect
the invited person.

An announcement is a statement made to the

The text that contains where the
event will be held.
 Informing sender
The text that contains name of the

An announcement is used for giving
people some information of what has
happened or what will happen.
