The Legion is Our Fatherland - French Foreign Legion
in Team Yankee - Part 1
With Luke Daley

Bonjour mon amis, and welcome to today’s article.

Today, you will find out how to build a French Foreign
Legion force for Team Yankee…

The French Foreign Legion has existed within the

French Army since the 19th century. Throughout their
existence they have garnered respect from allies and
enemies alike, due to their thorough training and
international recruitment base. They have also had
significant combat experience after WW2, having been
deployed to Algeria, Vietnam and on peacekeeping
duties.

In Team Yankee, France maintains it’s secretly agreed

ties to NATO and finds itself in the midst of the conflict
on NATO’s side. The Foreign Legion, wherever they are
based, may be recalled and deployed to wherever they
are needed. Hence this article.

Rules for FFL take the form of modified French,

American and Israeli rules.

French Foreign Legion infantry take the form of

French VAB-mounted infantry, with one slight
difference. They cost one extra point, and use the
same card as French VAB infantry, however they have -
Morale 4+. French Foreign Legion infantry HQ units
get the same cards as French VAB Infantry HQ units,
with Morale 3+ at no extra cost.

French Foreign Legion forces can be airdropped

should they need to be. You may replace each French
Foreign Legion VAB with a SA 330 puma helicopter
- count these as American airborne Hueys.

The FFL’s armoured forces include AMX-10RCs, VAB

Mephistos and Peugeot P4 jeeps. Count AMX-10RCs
and VAB Mephistos as their normal French counterparts, and count P4 jeeps
as Israeli recon jeeps.

French Foreign Legion forces can take the same air support as normal French
forces.

So to clarify - count FFL formations as French VAB infantry formations that can
only attach VAB Mephistos and AMX-10s or Israeli jeeps for recon in a
company.

Well, if you’re still hell-bent on a French Foreign

Legion force, you’re in luck. Here’s a quick guide on
what you’ll need to start such an army.

Shopping List:
● For FFL infantry, buy Battlefront’s French
infantry sets.
● For FFL VAB Mephistos and AMX-10RCs,
you can buy Battlefront’s French sets or
order from Butler’s Printed Models.
● For SA 330 helicopters, you may have to
3D print this. I have seen Air Models
selling SA 330s for £25 each….
● For Peugeot P4s you can buy Butler’s
Printed Models’ American jeeps with
MGs or Battlefront’s Israeli MG jeeps.

And now onto painting…

French Foreign Legionnaires wear a variety of

uniforms that are relative to their deployment. They
have distinctive desert, woodland and jungle
camouflage patterns. Some also just wear green
drab uniforms, although I am unsure of where
these troops were deployed to specifically. Note
that the FFL was involved in peacekeeping
missions, and so you could paint them with
white/blue UN helmets and gear.

FFL vehicles are usually marked just like French

vehicles, although they may have different
camouflage patterns depending on where they are
based. Vehicles could have their own desert,
woodland, jungle and even peacekeeping colour schemes.

See the next page for more colour schemes!
