This year October 7 is a National Depression Screening Day. Depression is a topic that is still often
avoided, but it continues to show up everywhere. Symptoms of depression may happen only once, but most
sufferers typically have multiple episodes which can occur nearly every day, all day. lt is often not evident to the
affected individual that he or she has an illness. Depression is widespread and treatable, and intervention early
in the course of the disorder is advantageous. Physical Health Questionnaire -I
(PHO-9) is a validated
screening instrument for Depression and is widely used. Using PHQ-9, we plan to screen for depression
symptoms among the students of your institution.

PHQ-| gives a score between 0-27. Those who would have scored more than 5 inPHQ-g
would be requested to avail fufther evaluation at CIP or any other mental health facility of
their choice.
