Dear Donors of the Dean’s Council Scholarship,

As a recipient of one of your generous scholarships. I wanted to say thank you to all of the
financial support you have given me to fund my college journey. Without your help, I would not be able
to pursue my dreams at Indiana University and at Kelley, so I wanted to give you my deepest thanks as
you have allowed me to pursue my dreams and be a Kelley Hoosier.

This scholarship has taken me from a small Chicago suburb and has allowed me to be a part of
one of the greatest business schools in the nation. I had grown up in the small town of Plainfield IL to an
Egyptian Muslim family. This background has given me great insight into two different parts of the
world. And these 2 backgrounds have shaped me into the person I am today as they have given me
values that are not entirely one way or another. But the way I see myself is that my values are still 100%
American. And that is because America is a melting pot of many different cultures and so there is no one
American set of values. Having American values is having a mix of different values as you create the
values from your traditional culture but then mix them with the values of current society and your
current community. This makes no one American have the same values as all American values have
different origins. And while they may be similar, no two Americans will have the same values making
every American different. And so, I appreciate your scholarship as it allows me to take my set of
American values to Indiana University and Kelley allowing me to only expand my world scope and
personal values, but also allow me to bring my set of American values to this prestigious University.

Currently I am studying marketing at Kelley with a hope to also get a co-major in International
Business. Lastly, I hope to be a part of Kelley Honors. Other than classes, I am also involved in many
clubs and extracurricular events. I am a part of the Powerlifting club, Palestinian Solidarity Organization,
MSA (Muslim Student Association), and Intermural sports at IU. I am a very active MSA with hopes to
hold a leadership position by my Junior year. I have also joined the Palestinian Solidarity Organization as
the Palestine- Israel conflict is one that I feel very strongly for. I also plan to join the American Marketing
Association within my time at Indiana University. I have also been closely involved with Intermural
sports at Indiana University. I currently play on an Intermural soccer team, but I am also a sports official
for the Intermural Sports. I am so thankful to have this opportunity to be closely involved with
intermural sports as sports (specifically soccer) has always been a big part of my life and it has allowed
me to keep it as a part of my life during my time at IU. And without your scholarship, I would not be able
to be as involved as I am so thank you for letting me be involved during my time at IU.

After my time at IU, my end goal is to eventually own my own company someday. I plan on
working in the corporate world right after graduation but will eventually leave to start my own business.
I plan on joining the corporate world at first to build those connections and build a monetary backing for
my business, but once I am able to break away and be on my own, that is my plan. And so, I wanted to
thank you for allowing me to go to a school that can make this dream a reality.

Again, I wanted to thank all you for the scholarship and financial assistance as without it my
dream to own a business would not be possible and I would not be able to study business at Kelley and
expand my set of values at Kelley and help introduce my induvial values to Kelley.

Sincerely,

Taha Gabr
