Solve for the true wind and speed:

1. A vessel true course is 240º T speed 18 knots. The relative wind direction is 100º (reciprocal of 280º) speed 30 knots. Find
the true wind and speed.

Answer:
True Wind Direction – 086˚
T
True Wind Speed – 45 knots
2. A ship is proceeding 090º at a speed of 10 knots. The true wind is coming from 068º speed 20 knots. What is the relative
wind direction and speed?

Answer:
Relative Wind Direction - 046˚
Relative Wind Speed – 11 knots
