Exercises:

If you are living in an area exposed to multiple hazards, for each hazard, ask yourself the
following questions and try to answer them. The answers are usually based on past experience
of hazard events. They may be recorded or may be gathered through interviews. They could
give you a reasonable indication of the threat posed by the hazard for the area you live in.

1. Could this hazard affect the area you live in?

It is very high in physical hazards for the reason that they have the potential to cause harm
and damage to our properties and us, the people who lived in that area.

Physical- Very high

Chemical- Low

Biological- High

Economic- Medium

Safety- Medium

Psychological- High

2. Is this hazard a significant threat there?

Yes for the reason that these hazards may take one's life and not only that but also to our
business which has a huge part in our survival every day making it a notable threat to us.
Thus, the economic standard is very high.

Physical- Very high

Chemical- Low

Biological- High

Economic- Very High

Safety- High

Psychological- High
3. How often does it pose a threat? E.g. Once every 5 years? 10 years?
If I were to estimate the threat's appearance, it usually arrives once every 5 months. When
the typhoon is too disturbing, we were always worried because it may blow out our house or
it may strike thunder and burn our wooden house. That is why every time a rainstorm hits,
we are anxious and have a constant fear that it may destroy our living and also our lives.
Hence, the psychological hazard is very high.

Biological- Very High
Economic- Medium
Safety- Very High
Psychological- Very High

4. What is a close estimate of the population size that could be affected by this hazard
event? Give a rating. Very high? High? Medium? Low?
The nearest approximation I have ever think of when it comes to a population size that could
be affected by this hazard event is very high because we are residing under the same roof,
meaning if one suffers, then we are all affected too. An instance is when someone is cold,
the disease may spread making us all sick too. Therefore, the biological hazard is very high.

5. What is the expected duration of the hazard?

Base on my observation, the expected duration of the hazard depends on what kind of
hazard happened, for physical hazard, ordinarily an entire week where the time length starts
at when the hazard began and until the things that have affected have healed. On the other
hand, the duration of economic hazards takes more time because it causes a wider range of
commodities.

6. What is the expected damage from the hazard event? Give a rating. Very high? High?
Medium? Low?
Physical Hazard- Very high, because numerous houses are imminent in our house which
may induce physical damage in infrastructures and assets.
Biological Hazard- Relatively high, because the density of the population in our setting is
somehow disturbing and the transmission of disease will be easy.
Economic Hazard- High, our business here will be affected by the hazard event.
Safety Hazard- High, it’s critical here in our community because it is crowded.
Psychological Hazard- High, because the majority of the people here in our community are
experiencing anxiety.
7. What is the expected intensity of impact expected? Give a rating. Very high? High?
Medium? Low?

Biological- Very High
Economic- High Safety- High
Psychological- Medium

8. How predictable is the threat?

Physical- Very high
Chemical- Medium
Biological- Very High
Economic- Medium
Safety- Medium
Psychological- Medium

9. Can the effect of the event be reduced?

Yes, it can be diminished by preparing disaster risk management. That is the reason why we
are inquiring and having this matter not merely to be educated but to exert any effort to
avoid dangers that may occur.
