BANTAY DANGAN

Bantay Dangan is one of the programs of Department of Agriculture purposely to early detect the insect
pest and diseases of corn, rice, vegetables and other commodities. Interventions must be established
before it becomes an outbreak. Community involvement is a great help in the implementation of Bantay
Dangan Program.

Learning Objectives

1. To be able to learn on how to assess the damages and occurrence of pests and diseases weekly.
2. To be able to identify the habitat, characteristics of damage of some insect pests and diseases.
3. To be able to formulate the suggested method in controlling the population of insect pests and
diseases.

Materials
1. Insect nets
2. Insect collection box
3. Denatured alcohol
4. Tape measure or meter sticks
5. Magnifying lens
6. Paper or notebooks and ball pen
7. Guide forms in insects collections
8. Rain boots
9. Cellophane for specimens
10. Digital camera

Time line
1 and a half hour

STEPS
1. Teach the farmers on how to assess the occurrence/incidence of insect pests and diseases thru
AESA.
2. Inform them the importance of early detection of insect pests.
3. Guide the farmers on how to measure the severity of the disease.
4. Give the farmers the suggested control method by introducing the biological control and the
bio-pesticides.
5. Inform the farmers to relay the incidence of insect to MAGRO officials as early as possible.
