Is it necessary for university students to attend classes?
There are two points of
view related to that controversial issue which some argue that going to class is a must for students. Others, on the other hand, believe that students should be able to choose whether or not to attend class. As far as I am concerned, no matter whether students like it or not, attendance at college classes should be a compulsory part of their student life. To begin with, students must attend class for a variety of purposes, including absorbing the knowledge more effectively, improving essential skills and practising time-management ability, in my view. Firstly, performing frequent class-presence is the best manner to understand the lessons effectively. According to the research of Dr. Jenny Muir (lecturer of Queen’s University Belfast), students who regularly attend classes will have much more potential of achieving top marks than others. It is obvious that a professor can teach students a lot of things that cannot be obtained from books. Besides, many quality qualified instructors have high expertise and excellent teaching skills to deliver valuable lessons in the university, which students cannot gain by self-studying. Furthermore, it is obvious that not every single person is naturally good at self-studying, so it would be fundamental for a student to have an instructor discuss every aspect of the lessons comprehensively. Secondly, spending time at college classes turns out to be a great chance to improve social skills as well as to have incredible diverse activities at many dynamic clubs. Building friendships and networking in university is also very vital., iIn contrast, students may miss these precious moments if they skip classes all the time. In addition, itregular attendance will boost excellent skills for students to complete themselves when they engage in a community which is young and full of positive energy. Thirdly, attending college classes is the best way to build and enhance sense of discipline as well as time management skill. However, Aantagonists of compulsory college attendance can hold a view that students should take time to learn what they are interested in with flexibility of time and subjects. Not attending class, students can control their time more freely and are likely not to waste their time. However, many students may disagree with this statement since they have recognized that the distraction from entertainment nowadays is more and more abundant or attractive. As a result, school attendance helps them avoid deconcentrating in their learning progress with a well- built syllabus and timetable schedule. Students can also effectively practise the sense of responsibility and know how to arrange tasks appropriately. In conclusion, I believe that students should attend classes since frequent presence in college classes can bring students many benefits such as knowledge, necessary skills and the sense of discipline to fulfill their respective tasks. Furthermore, students should value the time they have at university if they consider attending university as a best way to comprehend knowledge and create a successful life.
