A research activity:
1. Explain how electric motor works?
Electric motors work through the principles of electromagnetism. When you run
electricity through a wire, it creates a magnetic field. If you coil the wire around a
rod and run electricity through the wire, it creates a magnetic field around the rod.
One end of the rod will have a north magnetic pole and the other will have a south
pole. Opposite poles attract one another, like poles repel. When you surround that
rod with other magnets, the rod will rotate from the attractive and repulsive forces.

2. Draw a detailed part of an electric motor.

3. Explain the advantage of using electric motor in farms
Using electric motor in farms has a lot of advantages. Electric motors are low in first cost,
cheap to operate, long in life and highly efficient. When it comes to operation it is quiet
and is very simple to operate. It is also capable of starting a reasonable load, withstanding
temporary overloading, and of being automatically and remotely controlled. Lastly,
electric motors are compact and safe.
4. What are the different types of electric motors?
There are five different types of electric motors and these are split phase motor, capacitor
motor, repulsion-start induction motor, universal motor, and three-phase induction type
motor.

After doing the activity, did you observe the differences of the electric motor types, and
its advantages? In the space provided below, try to describe those differences that you
observed during your research.
After doing the activity, I observe that different electric motor types differ when it comes
to power output, efficiency, speed control, and output range. AC motors are known for
their increased power output and efficiency, while DC motors are prized for their speed
control and output range. Each of the electric motor has its own advantages.
