What ? What is the definition of Induction motor?

Answer:
Induction motors are basic motors that
run on single-phase alternating current
and create torque owing to the induction
of energy caused by alternating magnetic
fields.

Where? Where induction motor used?

Answer:
Single-phase motors are used in
equipment and machines that are smaller
in size and require lower horsepower.

advantages-and-disadvantages
How? How induction motor works?

Answer:
When a single phase alternating current
source is connected to the stator winding
of a single phase induction motor,
alternating current begins to flow through
the stator or primary winding. This
alternating current generates an
alternating flux known as main flux. This
primary flux also connects with the rotor
conductors, causing them to be severed.
As the rotor circuit is closed, current
begins to flow in the rotor. This rotor
current generates a flux known as rotor
flux. The motor that operates on this basis
is known as an induction motor. There are
two fluxes now: one is termed the main
flux, and the other is called the rotor flux.
These two fluxes provide the requisite
torque for the motor to rotate.

2
Who? Who in induction motor?

Answer:
Stator:
As its name indicates stator is a stationary
part of induction motor. A single phase AC
supply is given to the stator of single
phase induction motor.

Rotor:
The rotor is a rotating part of an induction
motor. The rotor connects the mechanical
load through the shaft. The rotor in the
single-phase induction motor is of squirrel
cage rotor type.

When? When to use?

Answer:
Single phasing can help fuse blowing or a
protective device opening on one phase of
the motor.

Where? Where Split Phase motor was use?
- These motors are used in
washing machines, Air
conditioning fans, Used in
food mixers, grinders,
floor polishers, blowers,
centrifugal pumps, in
small drills, lathes, office
machinery

Where Capacitor start motor was

use?
- These motors are used for
heavy loads where
frequent start required,
for pumps and
compressors, so these are
used as a compressor in
the refrigerator and air
conditioner.
- They are also used for
conveyors and some
machine tool.

Where Permanent capacitor run

motor was use?
- These motors are used for
fans and blowers in
heaters.
- It is used in air
conditioners and It’s also
used to drive refrigerator

compressors.
- It is also used to operate
office machinery.

Where Capacitor start capacitor

run motor was use?
- Two value capacitor motors
are used for loads of higher
inertia that requires
frequent start.
- These are used in pumping
equipment, in refrigeration
and air compressors.

Where Shaded pole motor was

use?
- Shaded-pole motors are
used to drive devices which
require low starting torque.
- Because of their low initial
cost and ease of starting,
these motors are ideal for
small devices such as relays,
fans of all types, and so on.
- Table fans, exhaust fans,
hair dryers, fans for
refrigeration and air-
conditioning equipment,
electronic equipment,
cooling fans, and other
applications for these
motors are the most
popular.
How? How Split Phase is difference from
other
- A resistance-start motor is
another name for a split-
phase induction motor. It
has a single-cage rotor and
two windings in the stator.

How Permanent capacitor run

motor is difference from other
- The rotor of these motors is
caged, and it has two

6
windings: the primary
winding and the auxiliary
winding. Only one capacitor
C is connected in series with
the starting winding in a
single-phase induction
motor. The starting winding
is permanently connected
in series with the capacitor
C. At startup and during
operation, the capacitor C is
permanently linked in the
circuit.

How Capacitor start capacitor run

motor is difference from other
- This motor has a cage rotor,
and its stator has two
windings namely the main
winding and the auxiliary
winding. The motor uses
two capacitors Cs and CR. In
the initial stage, the two
capacitors are connected in
parallel.
How Shaded pole motor is
difference from other
- A shaded-pole motor is a
simple single-phase
induction motor that self-
starts. It is made up of two
parts: a stator and a cage-
style rotor. The stator is
made up of salient poles. A
copper ring is affixed to the
smaller section of each
pole, which is slotted on the
side. The shaded pole is the
name for this part. A
shading coil is a single-turn
coil that is used to create a
ring.

Who? Who invented these motor?

- Charles Schenk Bradley

7
(Split Phase Motor)
-  Galileo Ferraris and Nikola
Tesla

When? When does the rotating magnetic

field occur?

- When there are at least two

alternating fluxes with a
phase difference between
them.

Questions Information Images
What ? What are the major differenced of AC and
DC generator?

An AC generator creates an alternating

current that periodically reverses
direction. But in a DC generator, a direct
current flows in one direction. In an AC
generator, the coil through which current
flows is fixed, and the magnet usually
moves.
Where? Where is AC generator used?

AC generators power home electrical

appliances and small motors such as
juicers, vacuum cleaners, and food mixers.
How? How does AC generator works?

When the armature rotates between the

magnet's poles upon an axis perpendicular
to the magnetic field, the flux linkage of
the armature changes continuously. Due
to this, an emf is induced in the armature

Who? Who invented AC generator?

Charles F. Brush
When? When DC generator was invented?

Faraday had created the first transformer

in August 1831.

Questions Information Images
What ? Example Question :
What is the summary of induction motor?

- Asynchronous motors are also classified as AC

motors.
- Induction motors are classified into two types:
wrapped rotors with slip rings and squirrel cage
rotors without slip rings.
- The squirrel cage rotor has a twisted rotor for
smoother operation.
- The wound rotor has windings and is coupled to
three slip rings on brushes; the current rotor is
regulated by resistors.

Where? Where can we find Induction motor usage?

- Commonly found in domestic appliances such

as washing machines and refrigerators (single
phase induction motor).
- Most commonly seen in industrial and electric
vehicles (three-phase induction motor)

Reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?
v=3oquaStPjWs
How? How is the working of 3-phase induction motors?

The stator and rotor are the two major

components of an induction motor.
Stator contains three coil windings and receives
three-phase alternating current power input.
- The winding is routed through the stator's slots,
which are formed by stacking thin steel
laminations.
- When electricity flows through it, it generates a
spinning magnetic field. (RMF causes the rotor to
revolve) - Three coils are linked 120 degrees
apart.
- A current-carrying wire generates a magnetic
field around it.
- A magnetic field is created when power is
introduced.
