This report is a detailed overview of my internship journey at

Emami Ltd. During my internship I have learned a lot About
Motors, Switchyard, LT panel, VCB panel, APFC panel, ACB panel,
Transformer, Compressor, VFD, Ventillation System, Cooling
Tower, Chiller, Fire hydrant system, DG set, UPS, Smoke detection
system, Boiler and the product manufactured in company and
nowadays this is the essential equipment of modern industries.
This machinery is the used to detect fault parts in industries and
there are also automatic fault detection in the industries and this
machinery is so advanced with technology that it work with
constant speed and give efficient of energy to other machinery. And
we have to look sometime when the major fault occurs. And this
machinery is making human to work less with advanced technology.
An induction or asynchronous motor was
an AC electric motor in which the electric
current in the rotor needed to produce
torque was obtained by electromagnetic
induction. Three-phase squirrel-cage
induction motors are widely used in
industrial drives because they are rugged,
reliable and economical. Single-phase
induction motors are used extensively for
smaller loads, such as household appliances
like fans. Although traditionally used in
fixed-speed service, induction motors are
increasingly being used with variable
frequency drives. Squirrel cage induction
motors are very widely used in both fixed
speed and VFD applications.

CLASSIFICATION OF INDUCTION MOTOR
• Depending upon rotor construction induction motor can be
classified into two categories:

1. Squirrel cage induction motor

2. Slip ring or Wound rotor induction motor

• Depending on number of phases it can be classified as:

1. Single phase induction motor

2. Three phase induction motor
• SQUIRREL CAGE INDUCTION MOTOR

Power 20hp (15KW)

speed 2920rpm

Full load current 26A

Voltage 415V
 Most of application of industrial as well as domestic are this type
of induction motor

 Its construction is simple and rugged

 Cheap compare to slip ring induction motor

 Maintanance is easy

 Starting torque is low

• WOUND ROTOR INDUCTION MOTOR

Power 7.5kw

Frequency 50hz

Voltage 415v

Insulation F class
 It has high starting torque compare to squirrel cage induction motor

 Construction is complicated

 Starter is required to start the motor

 Maintanance cost is high

• SINGLE PHASE INDUCTION MOTOR

Voltage 240V
Speed 3000rpm
Current 20A
Power 4hp
Insulation B class
• THREE PHASE INDUCTION MOTOR

Voltage 415V

Power 1.5hp

Full load current 3A

Speed 1400rpm
Troubles occurred in motor and their Remedies

 Failing to Start
 Motor produces excessive noise
 Motor produces Excessive heating
 Motor runs slowly
 Wound rotor runs at half speed
 Bearing Hot
 Motor starts in wrong direction
1. Failing to Start
Causes Remedies
1 Overload check the load
2 Loose rotor phase check the rotor bar
3 Magnetic Locking give twist to rotor
4 Burnt out fuse fuse should be examined
5 Worn out bearing check the bearing and replace it if necessary

2. Motor produces excessive noise

Causes Remedies
1 Loose coupling check the alignment and tighten the coupling bolt
2 Load unbalanced check the load
3 Air gap not uniform measure the air gap and replace the bearing
4 Rotor rubbing on stator replace the bearing
3. Motor produces Excessive heating
Causes Remedies
1 Overload check the overload
2 Low voltage check the supply voltage
3 Coil shorted check all phases
4 Worn out bearing check the bearing
and tight bearing

4. Motor runs slowly

Causes Remedies
1 Low voltage check the voltage
2 Loose rotor bar check the rotor bar
3 Short coil check the coil
4 overload run the motor at no load and check load
5 Worn out bearing check the bearing
5.Wound rotor rotates at half speed
Causes Remedies
1 Open circuit in rotor replace worn out brush spring

6. Bearing hot
Causes Remedies
1 Bent shaft check the shaft and replace if necessary
2 Defective bearing. replace the bearing
3 Insufficient grease. sufficient grease should be applied to bearing
4 Misaligned bearing. check the bearing assembly
7. Motor starts in wrong direction
Causes Remedies
1 Wrong connection. check the winding connection
2 Reverse phases. Reverse any two supplies
Periodical maintenance of induction motor

1.Daily maintenance
2.Weekly maintenance
3.Monthly maintenance
4.Annualy maintenance

1.Daily maintenance

1.earth connection and motor motor leads

2.winding temperature
3.control equipment
4.proper operation of bearing
2.Weekly maintenance

1.belt tension should be normal

2.contacts of starting equipment
3. greasing of bearings

3.Monthly maintenance

1.inspect and clean oil circuit breaker

2.in slip ring clean brush holders and brush holders settings
3.examine and repair all control components
4.Annualy maintenance

1.check the air gap and oil level

2.renew switches and fuse contacts if damaged
3.check the insulaion resistance value
4.check bearing condition
5.check earth connection and measure earth resistance
6.motor winding should be thoroughly blown out with dry air
PRODUCT MANUFACTURED
• Pancharistha

• Rhumasyl

• Ortho

• Cough Syrup pouch

OBJECTIVE OF PROPOSED WORK

I.learnedhow electicity is distributed by distributer and how it is

reduced and used by company as per there needs
II.Done connection of 3 phase in MCB
III. Can handle the situation if fire take place in company
IV. Understand why is the maintainance department needed in company
V. Have seen how the product are made and packed
VI. Know how to start DG when there is no electricity in company
VII. Learned how to make earthing
VIII.Learned about induction motor
SCOPE OF PROPOSED WORK

I.I can work in maintainance department

II.Can handle the situation where any fault occur
III.Can make Earthing for any company
IV.Can do wiring of house
V.Learned how to observe Clamp meter
VI.Can Repair induction motor
CONCLUSION
By doing this internship i conclude what & how an electrical engineer
work in any company/industry, what kind of situation he has to handle
and solve before any dangerous situation takes place.
