Instructions to Teachers and Tutors
The Pearson Set Assignment will be assessed internally by the centre using the unit Assessment
Criteria given in the qualification specification. The Set Assignment will be sampled by the
Standards Verifier as part of the standards verification annual centre visit.
Conditions of supervision
The Pearson Set Assignment should be undertaken in conditions that assure the authenticity of
outcome. This may require supervision.
We advise that the Pearson Set Assignment be completed in sessions that come to a total of 20
hours. The Pearson Set Assignment should not be shared with learners prior to the start of the
assessment period. Teachers/tutors are responsible for security of the Pearson Set Assignment
and materials.
You will be asked to carry out specific activities using the information provided. You will be given a
specific time period to complete the assignment.
At all times you must work independently and must not share your work with other learners. You
must complete an authentication sheet and submit this along with your work.
Kimura Entertainment sells entertainment media and collectible merchandise that includes:
• graphic novels
• digital media (e.g. DVDs, computer games)
• collectable merchandise (e.g. T-Shirts, action figures, movie prop replicas).
The company currently operates out of a small shop, but has recently seen an increase in demand
for the products it sells, and would like to continue to expand. To meet this demand the company
will:
• employ more staff
• move to new shop premises
• launch a new webstore to offer online sales
• purchase a small warehouse.
The new shop and warehouse do not have any infrastructure installed.
All tasks for the shop are currently performed by Gwen Kimura, the owner and founder of the
company. Kimura Entertainment has employed four people to start work when the company moves
to the new premises. The company uses a single laptop computer for all IT requirements.
You have been contracted by Gwen as an information technology (IT) professional. You will
recommend how she could use IT to meet the changing needs of the company.
Nicolas Magomedov and Kim • Deal with enquiries from shop staff.
Williams – warehouse staff • Prepare online orders for delivery or collection.
• Monitor inventory levels to ensure that:
o shop stock is replenished each night
o web orders can be fulfilled promptly.
• Communicate with suppliers to:
o ensure inventory is replenished as required
o confirm, cancel or amend deliveries.
IT requirements
• IT access for all staff to carry out their listed tasks effectively.
• Data storage for shop, warehouse, supplier and customer records.
• Monitor shop stock levels and warehouse inventory levels.
• Ensure in-store security.
• Allow shop staff and warehouse staff to communicate throughout the day, including:
o updating and processing orders and reservations
o ensuring the in-store stock is replenished as needed.
• Allow effective communication between all stakeholders.
• Allow customers to make and manage online orders.
• Allow Gwen to access data and information remotely.

can be addressed, including:
• defining potential threats to data, information and systems
• exploring processes and procedures that should be put in place by the organisation to
protect data
• exploring moral and ethical issues
• legal issues associated with the use of IT
• relevant professional guidelines and codes of practice
• managing infrastructure, data, information and users.
Gwen Kimura has asked you to justify the recommendations you have made for her company in
Activities 2 and 3.
You must evaluate the decisions you made about data, information and policies.
