PREFACE

Asslamu alaikum w.w.

Alhamdulillah, all praises and gratitude are submitted to Allah. Then,


peaces and blessings to the Rasulullah Saw, The Formulation Module
"Skripsi-Writing Guide" has been successfully submitted by the team.
This handbook is not the first issued by the Tarbiyah and Teacher
Training Faculty and IAIN Langsa, but there have been previous guide
books. The preparation this edition book, to enhance the writing guide
book edition of 2017. The preparation of this 2020 edition of the guide
book contains a variety of technical instructions in writing thesis, starting
from the early stages of the nomination of the thesis proposal, the
nomination procedure, the format of the proposal, to the technical script
writing essay. In addition, the guide also provides an example of the
format in the appendix for ease in writing. The book is expected to be a
guideline for students who wish to write a thesis and those who are
writing theses. So is the case for the lecturer, the book is a guide in
guiding and checking student thesis guidance.

ACKNOWLEDMENT

Writing a skripsi is writing scientific one that the final task


performed by undergradute students in English Department, Tarbiyah and
Teacher Training Faculty, State Institute for Islamic Studies of Langsa.
This brief guide is written to assist the students to write a skripsi.
In writing scientific paper, a student has to follow the rules of
scientific ethic or norms that accepted and recognized by International
Academic Community that should be noted and adherd to. It is primarly
focused on the citation, references, licensing the materials used, and listing
the data sources. This Brief guide is not the first issued by the Tarbiyah
and Teacher Training Faculty and IAIN Langsa, but there have been
previous guide books. The preparation this edition book, to enhance
the writing guide book edition of 2017.
Thanks to the team who has arrange this book, and also all of
TBI lacturers have supported until it can be used by the students as a
skripsi –writing guide. Finally, we state that this skripsi-writing guide
takes product on September , 2019 and ends up October , 2019.

5. Halaman Abstraksi

Halaman ini merupakan penjabaran isi skripsi secara ringkas.


Abstraks (Abstract) ditulis satu paragraph dan diketik satu spasi dan
minimal berisi 150 kata dan tidak lebih dari satu halaman. Abstraksi
berisi uraian tentang permasalahan yang akan dibahas, metode yang
digunakan, hasil penelitian dan kesimpulan penulis (lihat lampiran 8)

6. Halaman Daftar Isi

Daftar isi memuat daftar bab subbab yang ada didalam skripsi. Judul
bab diketik huruf besar semua dan tabel (bold), sedangkan subbab
diketik huruf kecil dan hanya huruf besar diawal kata kecuali
Preposition, article, dan conjunction. Penulisan bab dan subbab
adalah sebagai berikut:

7. Halaman Daftar Tabel

Halaman ini berisi daftar tabel yang ada di skripsi. Cara penulisan
daftar tabel dapat dilihat di lampiran 10.

B. Bagian Utama
1. Bab Pertama

Bab pertama (Introduction) terdiri dari latar belakang, rumusan


masalah, tujuan penelitian, manfaat penelitian, Penjelasan Istilah dan
ruang lingkup penelitian. Di latar belakang, penulis menceritakan
mengapa dia meneliti judul tersebut, apa yang memotivasi penulis
untuk melakukan tersebut, dan fenomena apa yang ditangkap penulis
di kenyataan yang berbeda dengan teori yang sudah ada dipelajarai.

Kemudian penulis menentukan masalah apa yang akan dijawab dan


diteliti skripsi. Masalah yang akan diteliti minimal satu dan boleh
lebih dari satu tergantung variabel dalam penelitiannya. Penulis juga
menyatakan tujuan penelitian yang harus sesuai dengan rumusan
masalah. Jika masalahnya ada 2, maka tujuan penelitian juga 2. Kalau
masalah ada 3, maka tujuan juga ada 3. Penulis juga menyatakan
manfaat penelitian untuk dunia pendidikan.

Bagian penjelasan istilah merupakan penjelasan makna dari masing-


masing kata kunci yang terdapat pada judul dan fokus (rumusan
masalah) penelitian berdasarkan maksud dan pemahaman peneliti.

Bagian ruang lingkup penelitian boleh dicantumkan atau tidak


dicantumkan tergantung dengan judul penelitian si peneliti. Ruang
lingkup bertujuan untuk membatasi penelitian agar tidak terlalu
melebar penjelasannya dan keluar dari permasalahan. Begitu juga
dengan hipotesi (dugaan sementara), boleh ada ataupun tidak. Apabila
penelitian kepustakaaan, maka hipotesis tidak perlu ada. Namun,
apabila penelitian eksperimen, maka hipotesis harus ada.

2. Bab Kedua

Bab kedua berisi tinjauan teoritis berdasarkan sumber-sumber


literatur atau sumber-sumber bacaan dari para ahli atau pakar ilmu
pengetahuan. Disini, penulis harus banyak membaca teori-teori yang
berkaitan dengan judul penelitiannya. Kemudian memasukkannya
sebagai landasan teori yang akan dipakai dalam penelitiannya. Di
dalam bab ini, penulis juga harus memasukkan penelitian-penelitian
terdahulu yang ada kaitannya denan judul penelitian si penulis.

3. Bab Ketiga

Bab ini merupakan penjelasan tentang metode penelitian si penulis.


Dalam bab ini, penulis harus menjabarkan jenis penelitian seperti
CAR (Classrom Action Research)I, Experiment, correlational,
comparative, Case study, ethnograpy, dan lain-lain, dan juga
pendekatan penelitian apakah qualitative atau quantitative. Penulis
juga harus menyebutkan populasi dan sampel penelitian apabila ada.
Namun, dalam penelitian kepustakaan tidak ada populasi dan sampel,
maka bagian ini diganti dengan The Source of the data. Kemudian,
sipenulis harus menjabarkan cara mengumpulkan data, instrumen apa
yang dipakai dalam penelitian, dan juga bagaimana cara penulis
menganalisis data yang sudah bersifat diperoleh. Penggunaan rumus
statistik dijelaskan di bab ketiga apabila penelitiannya bersifat
quatitative.

4. Bab Keempat

Bab ini merupakan penjabaran hasil penelitian si peneliti. Penulis


harus menganalisis data yang diperoleh secara detail dan tajam.
Pembahasannya harus jelas, tegas, dan akurat, dan juga harus bisa
menjawab rumusan masalah yang sudah ditentukan di bab pertama.
Pengujian hipotesis juga harus dijabarkan di bab ini oleh penulis. Dan
poin berikutnya pada bab ini adalah pembahasan, disini penulis
mendiskusikan terkait teori yang digunakan dengan data yang
diperoleh.

5. Bab Kelima

Bab ini merupakan bab terakhir dalam skripsi. Bab ini terdiri dari
kesimpulan dan saran. Kesimpulan yang diambil harus berdasarkan
pada hasil penelitian pada bab sebelumnya. Kesimpulan juga harus
sesuai dengan jumlah rumusan masalah. Kalau rumusan masalah ada
2, maka kesimpulan juga harus ada 2. Kalu rumusan masalah ada 3,
maka kesimpulan juga harus ada. Kemudian, sipenulis memberikan
saran yang berkaitan dengan penelitiannya.

BAGIAN KEDUA
FORMAT PENULISAN

A. Bahasa

Skripsi mahasiswa Fakultas Tarbiyah dan Ilmu Keguruan (FTIK),


Jurusan Tadris Bahasa Inggris (PBI) harus menggunakan bahasa
Inggris , American English atau British English. Penggunaan harus
konsisten khususnya dalam masalah ejaan (Spelling). Penggunaan
bahasa diluar bahasa Inggris harus diketik miring (italic).

B. Pengetikan

Skripsi diketik dengan tinta (catridge) hitam, dengan jenis huurf Time
New Roman ukuran 12. Kertas yang digunakan ialah kertas A4 warna
putih. Bagian utama atau isi skripsi diketik dengan spasi 2 (ouble
space). Margin untuk halaman skripsi adalah sebagai berikut:
1. Margin atas 3 cm (1.2 inci)
2. Margin atas 3 cm (1.2 inci)
3. Margin bawah 3 cm (1.2 inci)
4. Margin kiri 4 cm (1.2 inci)
5. Margin kanan 4 cm (1.2 inci)

Skripsi yang telah diuji disampul dan dijilid dalam bentuk hard cover
berwarna hijau. Skripsi tidak boleh ada coretan, tip-ex, tempelan,
sobekan dan lain-lain. Skripsi tidak boleh diketik timbal balik. Kata-
kata dalam skripsi tidak boleh disingkat, contohnya don’t harus di
tulis do not.

C. Penulisan Halaman dan Rasio Jumlah Halaman

Halaman pada skripsi diketik di sudut kanan atas setiap halaman


kecuali halaman awal setiap bab yang harus diletakkan di tengah
bawah. Penomoran dimulai dari awal samapul skripsi, dengan rincian
sebagai berikut:
1. Halaman sampul nomor i tapi tidak ditulis
2. Halaman pengesahan pembimbing dan penguji nomor ii tapi
tidak ditulis

3. Halaman pernyataan keaslian tulisan nomor iii tapi tidak
ditulis
4. Halaman acknowledgement nomor iv, mulai dari halaman ini,
nomor halaman harus ditulis
5. Halaman abstract nomor v
6. Halaman table of contents nomor vi
7. Halalam list of table nomor vii
8. Halaman Chapter I : INTRODUCTION dimulai dengan
nomor 1 hingga akhir halaman BIBLIOGRAPHY.

Jumlah halaman skripsi adalah sebagai berikut:

Bab I : 4-6 halaman


Bab II : 10-15 halaman
Bab III :5-7 halaman
Bab IV : 15-20 halaman
Bab V : 2-3 halaman
D. Penyusunan Bab dan Subbab

Judul bab diketik dengan huruf besar dan tabel (bold). Namun subbab
diketik dengan huruf kecil, hanya huruf awal yang huruf besar dan
subbab juga diketik tebal (bold). Subbab pertama menggunakan abjad
capital seperti A, B, C, D, dst. Sedangkan subba kedua menggunakan
angka 1,2,3, dst. Kalau ada subbab selanjutnya, maka menggunakan
huruf kecil seperti a,b,c,d, dst. Namun, kalau ada subbab berikutnya,
maka kembali menggunakan angka 1,2,3,4, dst. Begitulah seterusnya.

FORMAT PENULISAN JUDUL DAN PARAGRAP

Penulisan Judul
Untuk memperoleh keseragaman, berikut ini diuraikan format penulisan
judul. Judul Bagian Depan ditulis dengan gaya penulisan semua huruf
capital (12b) dan satu spasi. Bila terdiri atas beberapa baris, maka baris
pertama paling panjang dan baris berikutnya lebih pendek serta ditulis
dengan gaya di tengah-tengah.

Judul Subbab dan Subsubbab
Judul subbab juga ditulis dengan gaya penulisan huruf pertama setiap
kata kapital (bold type) kecuali article atau kata depan. Sedangkan judul
subsubbab ditulis dengan huruf italic bold type. Paragrap pertama dan
paragraph berikutnya ditulis dalam bentuk indent style 7 ketukan (sekali
tap).

Bahan, jenis huruf, dan spasi:


Kertas HVS 80 gr, ukuran A4, warna putih. Jenis huruf yang digunakan
adalah Times New Roman dengan ukuran huruf 12 point dengan 2 spasi
untuk bagian teks. Jenis huruf yang sama juga digunakan untuk tabel,
gambar/grafik tetapi dengan ukuran 11 point. Sedangkan ukuran huruf
untuk penjelasan dalam gambar berukuran 9-10 point, sehingga gambar
serasi dan jelas untuk dibaca.

kertas jeruk warna hijau FTIK; atas pakai plastik.
Yang telah diuji (lulus) dijilid dalam bentuk hard-cover; atas dan

Common problems (grammar, style, conventions)
Beberapa hal yang perlu diperhatikan:

 Et al. (and others)Only one of these twpao words is


abbreviated. Et is a whole word meaning and, while alii, a
word meaning others, is abbreviated to al. (note the full
stop/period mark). For example, “Held et al. (1999) confront
the question of whether Western capitalism and institutions are
the drivers of globalisation”.
 Use of the ‘&’ sign, The & (ampersand) sign in referencing
appears only in brackets or in the reference list at the end of
your thesis. Thus, you would write ‘Carver and Gaines (1987)
conducted the first study’, or ‘The first study that examined
stress focused on identifying one’s own emotions’ (Carver &
Gaines, 1987).
 Plurals and singulars, Datum/data (the data were categorized),
Phenomenon/phenomena (was understood to be a
phenomenon), Focus (or focuses) (The foci of this study were)

Often confused spelling

 Affect/effect:When these words mean influence, affect is used


as a verb and effect is used as a noun.e.g., Chocolate affects
my skin badly.The effects of chocolate on my skin are
disastrous.When the words mean something different from
influence they are used differently grammatically. To effect
(verb) something is to successfully complete it, while a
person’s affect (noun) refers to their feelings.
 Practice/practise, For Australian spelling, the verb uses an
“s”.e.g., I would like to practise the skills I have acquired.The
noun is spelt with the c and contains another noun “ice”e.g.,
The practice of leaving children alone in the car should be

discouraged.
 Its/it’s. Its is used when you are talking about something
belonging to the thing you have already mentioned. It’s is a
contraction or a shortened form of “It is” or “It has” - the
apostrophe stands for the letter omitted.e.g., The methodology
appears in Chapter 3. Its approach is principally quantitative.
(It’s a pity it couldn’t also be qualitative)
 That or which?. In academic writing, which often needs to
very specifically define the issues that it is discussing, the
word “that” is used more frequently than “which”. Both these
words introduce information that is related to a word or phrase
that appeared earlier. “That” is used when you wish to specify
more closely the defining characteristics of the word or phrase
(the word or phrase that appeared earlier). “Which” is used to
provide extra information rather than to specify or define. You
need a comma before “which”, but not before “that” (“that”
must stick to the word it is defining).
 ‘As’ and ‘that’Many writers use both ‘as’ and ‘that’ to
introduce what other authors are saying. They both mean the
same thing, so you must choose only ONE of these words.e.g.,
As Strunk and White (1959) argue in their widely read study
of language that simplicity in language use is best.
 Parallel structures, Note that the last problem sentence above
is one that was caused by the failure to use parallel
grammatical forms for the stem “the main factors that
contribute”. The sentence should read: Cognitive bias is one of
the main factors that contribute to the confidence we have in
our decision making as well as to the accuracy of our
confidence. Both underlined terms are nouns and they are
preceded by a “to”. They are joined by words such as ‘and’,
‘as well as’, ‘or’, or possibly form part of a list, where items
are separated by commas or semi-colons.
 Hanging (dangling) modifiers, In a sentence with two parts,

the writer’s intention might be to give the reader one piece of
information that can enlighten us about the other (main) part
of the sentence. This extra information seems to remain
hanging or dangling if the writer forgets to indicate clearly
who is doing what in both parts of the sentence.e.g., After
failing the VCE test, the teacher helped the student.(Did the
teacher fail the VCE test?)This should read: After failing the
VCE test, the student was helped by the teacher.

The researcher wants to know whether debate technique can


improve students’ speakingability or not. This researcher aimed tofind
out the improvement student’sspeaking ability through debate
technique at the XII grade MANKp.TeungohLangsa and to describe
how the learning process speaking byusing debate techniqueat the XII
grade MAN Kp. TeungohLangsa. This research uses Classroom
Actionresearch (CAR) as the method. This research involves the
students of XII– IPA 1 class. The class consist of 31 students The
instrument that used inthis research is test and observation. The result
of pre-test shows that only 8 students(25%) who pass the KKM score,
in the cycle, the result of post test 1shows that 15 students (48%) who
pass the KKM score. In the end ofcycle 2, the result of post test 2
shows that 25 students (80%) who pass the KKM score. Based on
these finding it can be concluded that debatetechnique can improve
the students’s speaking ability at MAN Kp. TeugohLangsa.
