MEANING

NURSING

The word nursing came from the Latin word


‘NUTRICIUS’ which means to nourish, to protect and
to sustain.

DEFINITION
NURSING
Nursing is the unique function of the nurse that is to
assist the individual, sick or well, in the performance
of those activities contributing to health or its recovery
or to peaceful death that the individual would perform
unaided if he/she had necessary strength, will or
knowledge.
PROFESSION
A profession is defined as an occupation with ethical
components that is devoted to the promotion of human
and social welfare.

PROFESSIONAL NURSE

A person who has completed a basic nursing education


program and is licensed in his country or state to
practice professional nursing.
