1. How will you determine if a product is a Trend and a Fad?

2. What are the challenges in sustaining a trend?
3. How is a fad illustrated through a life cycle of a product?

1. A product is considered a trend if it can continue to be relevant or useful and if the

product can also withstand the test of time and still be consumed or considered
“timeless”. While a product is considered a fad if people are only interested in it for a
certain number of time and also won’t be able to withstand a long period of time and still
be considered as useful as it was when it was first distributed

2. Some challenges in sustaining a trend include the ever changing needs of our society,
and the capability of that certain product to last for a certain period and still be deemed
useful

3. A fad undergoes through 5 distinct life cycle stages the development of the product, the
introduction of the product to the consumers which usually relies on various
advertisements and branding, the growth in popularity and sales of the product which
owes largely in part to its introduction to the public, maturity at which point sales growth
and profit slows down, and lastly decline in which sales and profit drop indicating the
fad’s decline.
