This chapter presents general background and purposes of this study.

Introduction, Statement of the problem, Scope and Limitations,
Significance of the study and Definition of Terms.

Introduction

Aloe Vera, is a natural product that is now a day frequently

used in the field of cosmetology. Though there are various indications
for its use, controlled trials are needed to determine its real
efficacy. The aloe vera plant , it properties, mechanism of action and
clinical uses are briefly reviewed. The name Aloe Vera derives from
the Arabic word “Alloeh” meaning “Shining bitter substance” while
“Vera” in latin means “True”. 2000 years ago, the greek scientist
regarded Aloe Vera as the universal panacea. The Egyptians called Aloe
“The Plant of Immortality”. Today , aloe vera plant been used for
various purposes in dermarology and many people used aloe vera. Also
aloe vera has a range of therapeutic properties, especially as an
ointment for the skin and gums. People can use bottled aloe vera gel
or take it directly from the leaf of an aloe plant. Aloe vera is a
thick short-stemmed plant that stores water in it leaves. It is best
that could potentially benefit. Aloe vera, sometimes shrub. Aloe is a
genus that contains more than 500 species of flowering succulent
plants. The leaves of aloe vera are succulent, erect, and form a dense
rosette. Many uses are made of the gel obtained from the plant’s
leaves. Aloe vera has been the subject of much scientific study over
the last few years, regarding several claimed therapeutic properties.
It can be also a skin care to the people who need to look their face
more beautiful, bright and smooth, either in our hair this is good to
apply in our hair if it is dry and not smooth, it can control your
hair damage. Aloe vera gel has many medical properties and is often
used in creams and lotion. It is cultivated worldwide, primarily as a
crop for “ aloe gel” which comes from leaf.

Statement of The Problem

The objective of this study aims to find out and test the “Aloe
Barbadensis Miller(Aloe Vera) as Alternative Shaving Cream material to
substitute other brand of shaving cream. This is because Aloe Vera is
the universal panacea
This study aims to answer the following questions:

Main Problem:

Can Aloe Vera be a shaving cream?

Sub Problems:

1. This product cheaper than the (Gillette) shaving cream?

2. Can Aloe Vera be a better significant substitute in (Gillette)

shaving cream?

3. How efficient Aloe Vera and (Gillette) as a shaving cream in terms

of:

b. Effectiveness

c. Appearance

Participants;
Residence of Brgy. San Pedro, General Tinio Papaya Nueva Ecija

In our survey 55 percent say’s Aloe Vera is good for applying to our
skin and Aloe Vera Gel is low price unlike the other Gel in market.

In our survey 45 percent say’s Gillette shaving cream is good for

shaving, hair in our face like beard, but is expensive in market
rather than Aloe Vera gel.

Significance of the Study

The study evaluates the Aloe Vera leaves, as an alternative extract.

The outcome of the findings this is study will contribute to the
following:

 For the academe, this is study can be use as a reference material

help in giving information and ideas to create other studies.

 To the environment, the Aloe Vera, extract shaving cream would

doubtless be another one of the shaving cream. It is made of
natural materials that are plenty and can be found in the
Philippines.

 To the community, Aloe Vera shaving cream will help them to avoid
a bad odor and dark armpit.

 To future researchers, this study will serve as a reference

material in conducting a study connected in shaving creams.
Scope and Limitations

The purpose of this study is to make an alternative shaving cream,

which is cheaper and does not harm the environment . The experimental
study will be conducted to certify if the plant extract of the aloe
Vera, used in making alternative shaving cream, This study only
focuses on Aloe Vera as an alternative shaving cream.

Defenition of terms

In this part of study, terms are defined for efficient and better
understanding .

Aloe Vera, - Sometimes described as a “wonder plant”, is a short-

stemmed shrub. Aloe is genus that contains more than 500 species of
flowering secculent plants. Many Aloes occur naturally in North
Africa. These leaves of Aloe Vera are succulent, erect, and form a
dense rosette.

Citric Acid,- It’s natural preservative and is also used to add an

acidic (sour) taste to foods and soft drinks. In biochemistry, it is
important as intermediate in citric acid cycle and therefore occurs in
metabolism of all most of living things.

Vitamin E-oil,– Is a group of eight fat soluble compounds that include

four tocopherols and four tocotrienols .Vitamin E deficiency , which
is rare and usually occur to an underlying problem with digesting
dietary fat rather than from a diet low in Vitamin E, cause nerve
problems.

Essential oils,– Are often used in aromatherapy form of alternative

medicine that employs plant extracts to support health and well-being.
Waxing Hair removal,– Also known as depilation, is the deliberate
removal of body hair. Hair typically grows all over the human body .
Hair can become more visible. Body hair than women.

LOCAL LITERATURE AND LOCAL STUDY

Study shows that aloe vera can be a shaving cream. Aloe vera is
an herbaceous and perennial plant that belongs to the Liliaceae family
and used for many medicinal purposes. The present study aimed to
systematically review clinical trials regarding the effect of Aloe
vera on the prevention and healing of skin wounds.( Davood Hekmatpou,
PhD,1 Fatemeh Mehrabi,2 Kobra Rahzani, PhD,1 and Atefeh Aminiyan, PhD3 ).
Nowadays, there is great interest in Aloe vera as a potential source
of functional food supplements. This could probably be attributed to
the presence of interesting bioactive components, in particular
polysaccharides and phenolic compounds. Acemannan, a storage
polysaccharide mainly composed by acetylated mannose units, has been
considered as the main bioactive compound present in Aloe vera. In
addition, several phenolic compounds have also been related to
interesting pharmacological properties, in particular anthrone C-
glycosides such as aloin. Further, the wide gamut of beneficial
properties associated to the Aloe vera plant could also be another key
reason for the use of Aloe vera as a food supplement. Particularly, it
has been observed that the intake of Aloe vera exerts important
beneficial effects, from the suppression of colitis-related colon
carcinogenesis in animal models, to an improvement on the glycemic
index and a lowering of the blood levels of total cholesterol in
diabetic patients. Within this framework, this chapter summarizes the
most relevant scientific information published about the main
bioactive compounds in Aloe vera, as well as the most significant
properties which have been scientifically demonstrated to be
associated to the intake of Aloe vera as a food supplement.( Minjares-

has been used for its purgative effect, skin disorders healing and
beauty treatments. Scope and approach For this study, an extensive
review on Aloe vera was carried out, including its main uses,
components (both nutrients and bioactives), biological activities, and
applications. Future trends were also assessed. Key findings and
conclusions Aloe possesses numerous activities including, anticancer,
antioxidant, antimicrobial, antiallergic, anti-inflammatory,
immunomodulatory, hepatoprotective, antiulcer and antidiabetic. Some
of these activities are due to the presence of polysaccharides
(acemamman; glucomannan). A wide variety of commercial products based
on Aloe vera are available on the market. However, the knowledge of
the relationship between biological and therapeutic properties and its
components has to be clearly defined in order to know the exact
mechanism of action to develop effective new products, namely
pharmaceuticals. The knowledge of the factors that affect Aloe vera
variability, such as processing conditions, is also of great
importance to be able to standardize the final products. (Sánchez-
Machado, Dalia I. ,López-Cervantes, Jaime, Sendón, Raquel
Sanches-Silva, Ana 2017).

FOREIGN LITERATURE AND FOREIGN STUDY

Research since the 1986 review has largely upheld the

therapeutic claims made in the earlier papers and indeed extended them
into other areas. Treatment of inflammation is still the key effect
for most types of healing but it is now realized that this is a
complex process and that many of its constituent processes may be
addressed in different ways by different gel components. A common
theme running though much recent research is the immunomodulatory
properties of the gel polysaccharides, especially the acetylated
mannans from Aloe vera, which are now a proprietary substance covered
by many patents. There have also been, however, persistent reports of
active glycoprotein fractions from both Aloe vera and Aloe
arborescens. There are also cautionary investigations warning of
possible allergic effects on some patients. Reports also describe
antidiabetic, anticancer and antibiotic activities, so we may expect
to see a widening use of aloe gel. Several reputable suppliers produce
a stabilized aloe gel for use as itself or in formulations and there
may be moves towards isolating and eventually providing verified
active ingredients in dosable quantities.( Reynolds, T. Dweck, A.

investigations on Aloe vera have gained more attention over the last
decade due to its reputable, medicinal, pharmaceutical and food
properties. Some publications have appeared in reputable scientific
journals that have made appreciable contributions to the discovery of
the functions and utilizations of Aloe vera lacking processing of leaf
gel. Present processing techniques aims at producing best quality aloe
products but end aloe products contain very little or virtually no
active ingredients. Hence, appropriate processing techniques should be
employed during processing in order to extend the use of aloe vera
gel. Further research needs to be done to unravel the myth surrounding
the biological activity and the exploitation of aloe constituents.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

Research Design

This Research design will use a controlled type of

experiment. Controlled experiment is a test for a hypothesis. The
factors in the experiment that change is called variables. It is best
to set up an experiment in which only one variable is being tested.
All other variables should be unchanging, or controlled. It is a fact-
finding study that involves adequate interpretation of data through
the use of experimentation.

Materials

The materials needed are the following:

Aloe Vera - Sometimes described as a “wonder plant”, is a short-

stemmed shrub. Aloe is genus that contains more than 500 species of
flowering secculent plants. Many Aloes occur naturally in North
Africa. These leaves of Aloe Vera are succulent, erect, and form a
dense rosette.

Coconut oil - the fatty oil obtained from the coconut and used in
candies and confections and in cosmetics.

Jojoba oil - is the liquid produced in the seed of the Simmondsia

chinensis (jojoba) plant, a shrub, which is native to southern
Arizona, southern California, and northwestern Mexico. The oil makes
up approximately 50% of the jojoba seed by weight.

Beeswax pastilles - is a product made from the honeycomb of the

honeybee and other bees. The mixing of pollen oils into honeycomb wax
turns the white wax into a yellow or brown color. Beeswax is used for
high cholesterol, pain, fungal skin infections, and other conditions.

Essential oil - The scented liquid taken from certain plants using
steam or pressure. Essential oils contain the natural chemicals that
give the plant its “essence” (specific odor and flavor). Essential
oils are used in perfumes, food flavorings, medicine, and
aromatherapy.

Procedures

The first step is preparing the materials and the ingredients

needed. Second step Combine one part olive oil with three parts pure
aloe vera gel (for example, 1 cup olive oil, 3 cups aloe vera gel).
Third step is Mix well and add several drops of your favorite
essential oil for fragrance if you'd like. Last step is Mix well and
store in a container.

Statistical Treatment

For determining the significant difference between the aloe vera

shaving cream (Experimental),normal shaving cream (Positive). The
variance which is a type of inferential statistic was used. The means
of the treatment levels of two shaving cream was estimated.
Furthermore, the treatment levels of the Aloe Vera shaving
