The influence of American colonization created a major impact on the tradition and

culture of the people in Manila. These aspects were developed in capital of the
Philippines. The economic opportunities of America in Manila affect wider and
systematically, this enabled the field of agriculture and industry to foster and expand.
Since agriculture was crucial in that time, alternatives were given to continue the trade
and manufacturing of goods. Constitution was also developed in that time that protect
and govern laws that can help the Filipino people. However, this law has an influence to
American laws. The events in Manila faced a tragic and unforgettable certainties since
the Philippines had the ambition to have political and economic independence.
Moreover, the war begun that became the downfall of opportunities and developments.
Manila in those times remain as a strong and a form of refuge to many Filipinos. It is the
center of governance and the voice for advocacy of independence.
The Philippines had gained independence in the “ashes of victory.” Intense fighting,
especially around Manila in the last days of the Japanese retreat had nearly destroyed
the capital. The economy generally was in disarray. Rehabilitation aid was obviously
needed, and President Roxas was willing to accept some onerous conditions placed
implicitly and explicitly by the U.S. Congress. The Bell Act in the United
States extended free trade with the Philippines for 8 years, to be followed by 20 years of
gradually increasing tariffs.

Medical incubator
The invention of Fe Del Mundo improvised incubator comprised of two native laundry
baskets that was placed one inside of the other. Hot water bottles were arranged
around, and in-between the two baskets to provide warmth. It also included a makeshift
hood over the overlapping baskets so that oxygen will be able to circulate within. This
was created in order to address the needs of families in rural areas that have no
electricity that is needed to regulate the body temperature of new born babies.
Quick Ink
This was invented by Francisco Quisimbing. This developed the work of fountain pens,
it is a quick drying and a water resistance ink, doesn’t clog the pen opening, doesn’t blot
and won’t fade. This was considered the best-selling inks for fountain pens.
Karaoke Machine
In 1975, Filipino Roberto del Rosario did invent and patent the karaoke sing-along
machine as we know it. Now, singing karaoke is as much a part of Filipino culture as it
ever was Japanese.
Yo-yo
Pedro Edralin Flores is widely considered as the first yo-yo maker in the US and with
his Flores yo-yo created the start of an international craze. At this point he remembered
the yo-yo (previously known as the bandalore), a game which has been played for
hundreds of years in the Philippines. Bringing it all together, Pedro saw a good market
opportunity in the U.S., and the ability to go into business for himself.
Banana Catsup
It is a condiment that many Filipinos love to use for almost every known dish in the
Philippines. This was the brainchild of food technologist Maria Orosa y Ylagan (1893–
1945). According to historical accounts, she created the first recipe for banana catsup
and experimented with foods that are native to the Philippines and created food
products such as calamansi nip, which is a powdered form of calamansi to make
calamansi juice, and a powdered version of soya beans called Soyalac which was used
to help save the lives of many Filipinos, Americans and others who were held prisoners
in World War II.
