What do you think is the importance of R.A 1425 in the modern society?

Republic Act No. 1425 is an act to include in the curricula of all public and private schools,
colleges and universities courses on the life, works and writings of Jose Rizal, particularly his novels Noli
Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, authorizing the printing and distribution thereof, and for other
purposes. This republic act was signed by President Ramon Magsaysay on June 12, 1956, authored by
Senator Claro M. Recto. Senator Jose P. Laurel Sr. was the Chairman of the Committee on Education in
that year, he sponsored the bill in the senate. Senator Claro Recto and Jose P. Laurel Sr. were known for
their great sense of nationalism. The aim of this law is to apply the ideas, thoughts, teaching, and life
values of Jose Rizal in our day to day situations and problems, and to develop moral character and
personal discipline.

This law involves mandating educational institutions in the country to offer Rizal course to every
students of the country. It includes the works, writings, and life of Jose Rizal. Who would not remember
the Noli Me tangere and El Filibusterismo that was offered in the secondary level of education. Since
high school students are aware of the importance of works of Rizal’s life, works, and writings. The goal of
this law that was set by the Board on National Education stated that, first, is to recognize the relevance
of Rizal’s ideas, thoughts, teachings, and life values to present conditions in the community. Second, to
apply Rizal’s ideas in the solution of day-to-day situations and problems in contemporary life. Third, to
develop an understanding and appreciation of the qualities and behavior and character of Rizal. Fourth,
is to foster development of moral character, personal discipline, citizenship, and vocational efficiency
among the Filipino Youth. There are a lot of importance that this law provide to our modern society.
First, it provides insight on how we should deal with the current problems, according to the novel of
George Orwell “Who controls the past controls the future.” As we view the past history of our country,
we also perceive the situation of our present. Furthermore, as years goes by our history influences the
solutions we provide for existing problem. History has a big impact to our present, it provides answers in
every question we have. Thus, the life and works or Rizal provides solution to the problems we are facing
today. Second, it help us to understand ourselves as a Filipino. The past helps us to know who we really
our in our society. It help us to know our role as a Filipino in our society. We should learn to appreciate
our own identity, and don’t be ashamed of it, because as a Filipino we represents our country. Third, it
teaches nationalism and patriotism, nationalism involves the will as a filipino to attain freedom and
political independence, especially by a country like ours that is under foreign power. Patriotism denotes
one loyalty to one’s nation. The works and writings of Rizal will always be remarked in our country, it will
be our guide to understand our country and learn about nationalism and patriotism that will benefit our
country. Lastly, it provides essential life lesson, the way he encountered serious dilemmas he responded
to it with high-mindedly.

To sum it up, republic act 1425 has a lot of importance in our society. Through this subject, we
will learn how to give importance to our society as someone sacrifice his life for the freedom of our
country. It will make us love our own country more and respect it no matter what. Through the works of
Rizal it can serve as model and inspiration to every Filipino. His beliefs, life principle, dreams, thoughts,

aspiration are a good thing to be influenced to all of us that we can apply to our modern society at this
generation. As a closing statement I would like to say that we should not be ashamed of we are, and
where we came from.
