Objective: In this task, you should be able to...

1 Describe how communication is influenced by media and information technologies.

3. Choose the appropriate medium of communication

Direction: This is individually performed. Using any means available currently at your disposal.
Make a short message of your liking and relay it to anybody. Mind the response of the
individual/group you communicated with. Take note of the interaction Answer the questions

1. What communication mode have you just performed?

3. What was your message?

My message was about how much I miss my seatmate, our happy moments together,
and even our everyday routine at school back when we were in Grade 11. I also mentioned that
I hope this pandemic ends soon so we can go back to school like the good old times when
things were still normal.

What was the response?

She responded that she also misses me and the moments I’ve mentioned. She also
reminded me to stay “alive” and healthy despite all the stress and anxieties brought by this
pandemic.
4. Why did you not use facsimile machine to communicate with the person?

I do not have the means to use the facsimile machine to communicate with the person.
Hence, it will be inconvenient for me and maybe even costly if I will opt to use such medium of
communication.

5. Why did you use that medium of communication?

I used a smartphone and the Messenger application installed in it because it is the most
accessible and convenient way to send a message nowadays. It is the most widely-used
medium of communication around the world.

My voice message was about the random phrases listed on the next page of the MIL
module right after the Practice Task 3.

What was the response?

I sent the different phrases to different persons and all of them responded with utmost
confusion. They asked if I sent it to them mistakenly or if there was something wrong with me.

4. Why did you not use facsimile machine to communicate with the person?

I do not have the means to use the facsimile machine to communicate with the person.
Hence, it will be inconvenient for me and maybe even costly if I will opt to use such medium of
communication.

ASSIGNMENT:
1. What is media literacy?
Media literacy is the ability to access, analyze, assess, make, and act using all shapes of
communication. It simply strengthens the foundation of traditional literacy and further gives way to new
forms of reading and writing. Media literacy aims to empower the sense of critical thinking and
making, communicating effectively, and also promotes being an active citizen.

2. What is information literacy?


Information literacy refers to the ability to identify, search, and utilize information efficiently.
From various search and evaluating methods, students learn how to assess the worth of information.
They learn how to scrutinize the quality, credibility, and validity of the said information. They also learn
how to give proper credit to the works and authors of the information they will be using. Furthermore, it
is essential to have information literacy skills in order to succeed in the digital world.

3. What is technology literacy?


Technology literacy refers to the ability to familiarize essential digital information and devices
while adapting to the modern learning environment. It is quite similar to digital literacy in a manner that
being technologically or digitally literate is the same as being skilled in thinking critically and
communicating by utilizing technology. These technology literate individuals understand how to absorb,
make, authenticate, and share digital content. Moreover, these people are also known to easily adapt to
new technologies.

4. What are the similarities between media, information, and technology literacy?
Media, information, and technology literacy are all similar in terms of goals. These are the three
most prevailing concepts that focus on a critical approach towards media messages. They all share the
common goal of cultivating people’s ability to access, understand, use, evaluate, and create media
messages, information, or content using information technology.
