SYSTEM SOFTWARE
I. Windows
-A window is a separate viewing area on a computer display screen in a
system that allows multiple viewing areas as part of a graphical user
interface ( GUI ). Windows are managed by a windows manager as part
of a windowing system . A
window can usually be resized
by the user. For example, it can
be stretched on any side,
minimized, maximized, and
closed. On today's multitasking
operating systems, you can have
a number of windows on your
screen at the same time, interacting with each whenever you choose.
IV. Firmware
Firmware is data that is stored on a computer or other hardware
device's ROM (read-only memory)
that provides instruction on how
that device should operate. Unlike
normal software, firmware cannot
be changed or deleted by an end-
user without using special
programs, and remains on that
device whether it's on or off.
V. Chrome OS
VI. Android
Android is a free Linux based platform and is an open software stack with an
operating system, middleware, and applications. It was originally developed
by Google and released on November
5, 2007, for mobile platforms. An
android is a robot that strongly
resembles a human being.
VII. Mac OS
VIII. Ubuntu
Ubuntu is another operating system running on Linux. It is free and
open-source, which is what makes it so attractive to many.
Using Ubuntu,
you can
download
various
application
software from
the Ubuntu
Software
Centre. The
Ubuntu system
software allows
you to run application software like Firefox, Skype, and Telegram.
APPPLICATION SOFTWARE
A. Microsoft Word
Microsoft Word or MS Word (often called Word) is a graphical
word processing
program that
users can type
with. It is made by the
computer
company
Microsoft. Its
purpose is to
allow users to
type and save
documents.
Similar to other word processors, it has helpful tools to make
documents.
B. Google Chrome
Chrome
is a free
Internet
browser
officially
released
by
Google
on
December 11, 2008. Its features include synchronization with
Google services and accounts, tabbed browsing, and automatic
translation and spell check of web pages. It also features an
integrated address bar/search bar, called the omnibox.
C. Firefox
Firefox
is a
free-to-
use web
browser
that
was
first
released
in beta
on
D. Skype
Skype
is a
program for making VoIP calls to any phone, anywhere in the
world. It's free for a Skype user to call another Skype user,
regardless of where they are located. A Skype name is a username,
identifying a person's account. It is unique and may include
letters, numbers, commas, periods, hyphens, and underscores.
The Skype name is between 6 and 32 characters in length and
created when first setting up an account.
The
Microsoft
Windows
Media
Player, also
known as
WMP and
Wmplayer
is
Microsoft's
fully
functional
media player that is included for free with any copy of Windows.
It allows users to view photos, play music from a CD or music file,
and watch video media. Additionally, Windows Media Player
allows users to rip audio CDs and organize their music collections.
It should be noted, however, that Windows Media Player will not
play DVDs due to Copyright restrictions.
F. VCL Media Player
Developed by
the VideoLAN
project, VLC is
a free and
open-source
media player
for Microsoft
Windows, Linux, and macOS. It is capable of playing and
streaming any audio file and many video files, and even DVD
movies. What makes this player unique to other players is that it
is totally free, has codec's already included, and its almost
limitless available features. The picture shows an example of what
the VLC player looks like playing a DVD movie.
G. Microsoft Access
Microsoft Access is a database software management program
from Microsoft. Access is also a channel of communication that is
opened with a software or hardware device. Examples include a
computer floppy drive, modem, or printer. If the appropriate
access is not obtained, the user receives an access denied or
another error message. In general, access refers to the permission
to use. If you've been given the rights to use a computer or service
you have authorized access, usually granted by entering your
username and password.
