Project One: A Mobile Application Proposal Prepared by Beyond Student for Change for

National Animal Health Diagnostic and Investigation Center

Introduction

NAHDIC was established in 1995 as Central Disease Investigation Laboratory (CDIL) at the
beginning. Later in 1997 its mandate was modified to engage itself on research organized under
the Ethiopian Agricultural Research Organization (EARO) and this was extended until 2007.
However, as of May 2007 the mandate was revised and the now National Animal Health
Diagnostic and Investigation Center (NAHDIC) have been nominated to be a national referral
and reference laboratory and undertake the following major national and international activities.

Now a day’s technology is leading every science sector in the 21th century and it is a must to go
with the advanced technologies to compete with others and also to better achieve the vision. In
our science which is the livestock sector is no longer different from other sciences or sectors in
the growth toward technologies. As we know a lot of technologies have been made for upgrading
medicine and still upgrading are common. Among them software development, website,
equipment and mobile apps are one of them. These innovations bring us enormous changes in the
field of health and continue with the updates and changes in the technology era. Our country
should also follow the same stepping stones as the other world did. So, this mobile application
we be the first to introduce it as the first laboratory manual mobile application for health students
in the world.

The National Animal Health Diagnostic and Investigation Center is one of the largest Veterinary
laboratories is Eastern Africa and it is working to be one of the OIE reference laboratories in
Africa. So, in order to meet the ‘Moving Forward’ initiative of the center using such
technologies will help the center to introduce his capacity to the world and enable to improve the
national livestock research capacity. The mobile application would be an exemplary to the sector
Ethiopia. It is organized by the latest laboratory materials that the world still working and
prepared well by visionary young professionals with in the sector.
Objectives

 To prepare health and laboratory concerned mobile application

 It is the first laboratory teaching and learning manual mobile application for the Ethiopian
livestock sector
 It helps every side corner of Ethiopia students and professionals to easily understand
major laboratory knowledge and protocols of the center
 To gain the ability to advertise NAHDIC in the World
 It helps to connect different professions from different disciplines with the latest
laboratory technologies
 This will help to achieve the missions (investigation of A+ D+, surveillance, lab test,
enhance diagnostic capacity building and animal D+ cont’l & prevention strategies) of
NAHDIC through the development of the App.
 to advance their theoretical and practical knowledge

Target groups

The app is targeted all health undergraduate and post-graduate students and professionals within
the sector including Veterinary medicine students, medical students, public health students,
Veterinary and medical laboratory techniques, pharmacy students and also professional with in
the sector and beyond all over the world. This mobile app would create a great impact on
students by upgrading their laboratory knowledge and engagement with the latest materials.

Mobile Application development steps

Step-1 Paper Prototype

Step-2 Team Arrangement
Step-3 Combination of Each Team Work
Step-4 Changing the Data into Coding
Step-5 Releasing the Mobile App in IOS and Android
STEP 1

Paper prototype

PURPOSE

 To put ideally how the mobile app looks like in real IOS or android

The application starts with introducing the NAHDIC and continuous with the major courses.

 Each department will have a page similar to as the above page

 The laboratory procedures will be written by the assigned instructors from NAHDIC.

 The color, graphic design and all the necessary essays that prepare by the team
will code by the software developers

STEP 2

Team arrangement

Each team will classify based on the course title and also prepare the important procedure tests,
notes and videos in collaboration with the NAHDIC staffs. The team will assigned by NAHDIC
and each beyond team member will be part of each team.

 Bacteriology team
 Molecular biology team
 Virology team
 Parasitology team
 Pathology team

We want to be informed each department by the Administrative office to collaborate with us

STEP 3

Combination of each team work

The team leader will summit the paper essay that is not long enough and practical sufficient to be
part of the mobile app. The paper collected after that the video will continue and finished in 3
days.

STEP 4

Changing the data into coding. After finishing the entire necessary requirement by the teams then
the coding will start and finish into maximum of one month.

STEP 5

Releasing the mobile app in IOS and android

We will launch the application by a proper ceremonial with inviting different professionals
invited from Minister of Agriculture, Minister of Health, Tikru Anbesa Hospital, and Ethiopian
university college deans and from Ethiopian public health institute.

Project Two: Making Short Quality Advertising Video/Movie

 The second project involves making short quality advertising video/movie production by
professional cinematographer. Thus, this will help NAHDIC to bring out what works had
been done (scientific breakthroughs) and what’s it looking forward to achieve in the
coming years & also helps to reach the scientific community
 To show all government bodies, our community, universities, professionals, research
institutes/labs, international funders & even students of all field of about advanced
veterinary laboratory technologies, which NAHDIC can provide,
 To transfer knowledge by bringing NAHDIC to every person interested by breaking the
distance berries in advanced lab technologies
 To provide different sections of the community with in-depth information about
NAHDIC activities and missions (investigation of A+ D+, Labs, surveillance and control
and prevention)

Importance of the project two

 Knowledge transfer can easily be made by smart phone anywhere in the globe,
 Help NAHDIC to get to connect with the society,
 Also increase the transfer of knowledge in a two direction manner via feedbacks,
 Laboratory technicians(personnel) can easily find most of the procedure and information
from (microbiology, pathology and parasitology laboratory facilities) a single application,
 Reduces the time and manpower required for the assistance to a visitation,

5
 Department representatives and key personnel’s can contribute on the writing for the app
preparation and can be beneficiary to the sector
