I. INTRODUCTORY CONCEPT:
Everything around us is matter. They have different properties that make them
unique. These properties of matter make them good materials for producing useful
products while others have properties that make them harmful. Materials are said to be
Useful when it serve its purpose. A Material is considered harmful when it brings harm
to your health, environment and other organisms when not used properly.
III. ACTIVITIES:
ACTIVITY 1: Identifying Properties of Materials
What to do:
1, Examine the pictures of sample materials below.
2, Identify the material used for the product.
3, Classify it as useful or harmful by putting a check on the proper column. (If the
material is useful and harmful, check both columns).
Number 1 is done as an example.

Different household materials have their specific physical and chemical properties.
These properties of the material will determine their usefulness. A certain material may
pose danger or be harmful when mishandled. When one is combined with the other,
they may cause damage and harmful effects to humans or animals, health, and
environment.
