This chapter presented the analysis and interpretation of the data gathered from

this study.

Problem 2: What is the functional literacy rate of the out-of-school youth in terms of
a. Reading Skills; and
b. Calculating Skills?

Problem 2: Is there a significant difference between functional literacy rate and socio-
economic status of the out-of-school youth with regards to their:
a. Educational Attainment
b. Occupation
c. Family Monthly Income
d. Parents’ Educational Attainment
e. Father’s Occupation
f. Mother’s Occupation?

Table 3 presents the significant difference between functional literacy rate and

socio-economic status of out-of-school-youth.

Data reveal that the educational attainment of the out-of-school youth obtained a

computed F-ratio of 2.20 which is less than F-critical value of 2.81 followed by their
mother’s occupation F-ratio of 1.65 also less than F-critical value of 2.17 and lastly, their

family monthly income F-ratio of 1.22 with an F-critical value of 2.81. Hence, if the

computed F-ratio is less than the F-critical value then it implies that the null hypothesis

not be rejected. Therefore, there is no significant difference on the functional literacy

rate with regards to their education attainment, mother’s occupation and family monthly

income.

In contrast, the results reveal that parents’ educational attainment obtained a

computed F-ratio of 4.01which is greater than F-critical value of 2.81 followed by their

occupation F-ratio of 3.16 also greater than F-critical value of 2.08 and their father’s

occupation F-ration of 1.92 with an F-critical value of 1.57. Thus, if the computed F-ratio

is greater than the F-critical value then it implies that the null hypothesis be rejected.

Therefore, there is a significant difference on the functional literacy rate with regards to

their parents’ education attainment, occupation and father’s occupation.
