Matter is everything in the universe around us is matter, so we are. Matter has four states, depending on energy, they are: solid, liquid, gas and
plasma.
• Solid state - Solid state molecules are packaged and held in many specific forms.
• Liquid state: the molecules are separated, so the liquid flows easily.
• Gas state: the molecules move randomly in any direction so that the gas has no shape.
• Plasma state: the superheated gas becomes plasma; the molecules are charged.
Into of the types of matter we can find: pure substances which are divided in elements and compounds, also mixtures that are composed of two or
more substances and are divided in homogenous and heterogeneous.

Substances: is a sample of matter whose physical and chemical properties are the same throughout the sample because the matter has a constant
composition.
Molecules: a group of atoms bonded together, that can take part in a chemical reaction.
Solution: it is a homogeneous mixture, consists of a solute and a solvent.
Solute: is the substance that is dissolved in the solvent.
Density: the quantity of mass per unit volume of a substance.
Colloidal suspensions: a mixture having particles of one component, with diameters between 10 -7 and 10-9 meters, suspended in a continuous
phase of another component.
Filtration: way to separate mixtures where a solid is separated from a liquid by passing through a fine pored barrier such as filter paper.
Distillation: another technique to separate mixtures. By boiling a solution of a non-volatile solid dissolved in a liquid in a flask, vapor from the lower
boiling point solvent can be driven off from the solution by heat, be condensed back into the liquid phase as it comes in contact with cooler surfaces,
and be collected in another container.
Temperature: the degree or intensity of heat present in a substance or object, especially as expressed according to a comparative scale and shown
by a thermometer or perceived by touch.
Condensate: liquid collected by condensation.
