Course Description:

This course is designed to provide a broad foundation of Business Analytics. Basic concepts of probability distributions enable understanding of hypothesis
testing which helps in business decision making. Statistical Inference and visualization are used as the tools and techniques of Business Analytics. Students
must understand fundamental concepts, learn related techniques and their application. An assortment of computer applications such as Excel, SAS, Power
BI and R will be used to provide a basic understanding of Analytics.

Course Objectives:
The objectives of this course will be to equip atudents with the concepts, techniquea and frameworks that will enable them to
• Develop a manager’s orientation and an appreciation of using judgement and discretion in developing, evaluating and choosing alternative
courses of action
• Develop the perspicacity to identify the conditions that determine the quantitative technique that muat be chosen and
• Develop the understanding that analytical techniques help glean information from data but do not take decisions for the manager.
• Demonstrate the ability to manage ambiguity and uncertainty in business decisions.

Expected Learning Outcomes:


At the end of the course a student is expected to:
• Be familiar with the relevant frameworks, tools and techniques which enhance decision making.
• Apply judgement along with statistical analysis
• Choose the best alternative for better business outcomes through data analysis.
• Interpret the output from analysis using Excel, Tableau, R and SAS, Power BI

Expectations from Students


a. Students must report to the respective sessions well before the announced time. Latecomers will not be permitted to join the class after the scheduled
time. If late, the attendance for that session will be marked as absent.
b. Read the Case Study / material well prior to the class discussion. He/she is also expected to read the chapter indicated in the course plan as the
faculty directs.
c. In the class discussion student is expected to participate actively and contribute to individual and group learning. Evaluation is based on active
participation.
d. Evaluation is a continuous process at IBS. Every student needs to be aware of the timelines given in the section below. Absence from these
evaluations will mean non awarding of marks in that particular component
e. Each faculty has been given a scheduled consultation hour. Utilize this time to meet the faculty and clarify doubts if any, seek explanations and
get mentored if needed.
