Participants Groups. There are 8 groups in this event, and each group consists

Discussion It should be around 1.5hours, held within 12:00 - 20:00 (Time in Japan) on the

Discussion Theme of each group will be fixed according to the answer of the

1. Before start this event

Q1-1. I haven't invited to the group chat yet.

We invite you to your group chat on orientation session. But if you haven’t got invitation link
by 8/20, please let us know as soon as possible.

2. When you cannot participate

Q2-1. I couldn't join the orientation.

The OC staff who has been contacting you so far will send you the recording of this
orientation, materials, and questionnaire. Please answer questionnaire we sent after you watch
the recording by 21st of August.

Q2-2. I cannot join specific dates during this event.

Please take part in the discussion somehow like by sending messages. Even if it is hard for you
to do so, please tell your situation to your teammates. Don't be stressed too much to join the
discussion.

Q2-3. I cannot communicate with my teammates because of my bad internet connection.

Grasp the situation each other and wait patiently until you can talk with others! You can also
use chat if you want.

We will inform you daily from Whatsapp.

Q3-2. Which tool should I use for discussions?

There is no specification for the tool. But we recommend to use Zoom meetings.

Q3-3. I couldn't complete daily contents.

It's okay because it doesn't mean that you can't proceed to the next day unless
you complete the contents of that day.
Talk to your members about the contents after the event or when you have time.

4. Troubles with your teammates

Q4-1. I haven't heard back from teammates.

We will contact your teammates, so please contact us on Whatsapp.

Q4-2: Can I exchange social medias?

There are no restrictions on exchanging social medias, so please feel free to do so.
In fact, some of the past participants in different events have exchanged their Instagram
accounts and are still in contact with each other.
However, please note that we cannot be held responsible for any problems that may arise
after the event.

What is the Goal Here?


SDGs 4
• Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education for all and promote lifelong

Why it Matters
• Education is a key to escaping poverty.
• Education helps reduce inequalities and reach gender equality. Also, it is crucial to
foster more tolerance and peaceful societies.
• Women and girls are one of the groups that have difficulty with access to education.
• About one-third of countries in the developing regions have not achieved gender
parity in primary education.

What is necessary to change the situation?


• Asking our governments to place education as a priority in policy and practice.

SDGs 1 What is the Goal here?


OVERVIEW • To end poverty in all its forms everywhere by 2030.

Why it Matters
• In 2015, more than 700 million people, or 10 percent of the world population,
lived in extreme poverty, struggling to fulfil the most basic needs like health,
education, and access to water and sanitation.

What is necessary to change the situation?


• Asking governments to help create an enabling environment to generate
productive employment and job opportunities for the poor and the
marginalized.

OVERVIEW • To reduce inequalities within and among countries.

Why it Matters
• Inequality threatens long term social and economic development, harms poverty
reduction and destroys people’s sense of fulfilment and self-worth.
• Inequality is growing for more than 70 percent of the global population,
exacerbating the risks of divisions.

What is necessary to change the situation?


• Investing more in health, education, social protection and decent jobs especially for
young people.

SDGs 13 What is the Goal here?


Discussion Topic • Taking urgent action to tackle climate change and its impacts.

Why it Matters
• Climate change is affecting every country in the world. It is disrupting national
economies and affecting lives and livelihoods, especially for the most vulnerable.

What Can We do?


• To limit global warming to 1.5C°, as called for in the Paris Agreement,
greenhouse gas emissions must begin falling by 7.6 % each year starting in 2020
• The UN Campaign for Individual Action
• IPCC: We can act on climate change but time is running out

SDGs 14 • To conserve and sustainably use the world’s ocean, seas and marine resources.
OVERVIEW
Why it Matters
• Over 3 billion people depend on marine and coastal biodiversity for their
livelihood.
• Current efforts to protect key marine environments and small-scale fisheries, and
to invest in ocean science are not yet meeting the urgent need to safeguard this
vast, yet fragile, resource.

What Can We do?


• Sustainability can be achieved only through increased international cooperation
to protect vulnerable habitats.
• We should eliminate plastic usage as much as possible and organize beach clean
ups.

What is the Goal here?


SDGs 5 • To achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.
OVERVIEW
Why it Matters
• Women only held 28 per cent of managerial positions worldwide.
• In some countries, girls are deprived of access to health care or proper nutrition,
leading to a higher mortality rate.

What Can We do?


• You can fund education campaigns to curb cultural practices like female genital
mutilation and change harmful laws that limit the rights of women and girls and
prevent them from achieving their full potential.
