Q.1 WHY DO EMPLOYEES AT FIRMS SUCH AS APPLE COMPUTER


WORK SO HARD AND PUT IN SUCH LONG HOURS?

 As because of downsizing of apple computers survivors has no other option except
working hard and long hours to protect their job. The management also has big role
to change workers perception to work hard and long hours otherwise workers will
stressed and withdrawal behavior may occur. As stated in the case, apple computer
workers wearing the t-shirts that proclaim “90 hours a week and loving it! ” is a
kind of management actions will help to change their workers personality,
perception and make positive attitude on working hard and long hours Also they
provide mobile phones, pagers and computers to their workers for telecommuting.

This will helps to balance their work- life balance. The motivation factors of the
organization will be most important for retain the workers and encourage them to
work hard and long hours in an effective manner with positive attitudes. Job
satisfaction of the employees will happily contribute to the organization positively
and effectively also, organizational commitment of the employees will play major
role.

If employees are well committed in to the organization, they will do their best to
the organization in a happily and positively. As stated in the case, managements try
to select the employees with personality to work long hours when requiting the
new employees so they don’t need to do much to change employee’s attitudes to
work around the clock since when they apply the job they are ready to work long
hours.

Q.2 How would you describe Wayne Huizenga in terms of the self-
concept, specifically self-esteem?
Wayne Huizenga an individual with full of confidence and positivity holds him to
grow his business well from the beginning. As stated in the case he was able to
create many businesses successfully like a more organized garbage collection
business and entertainment business of Viacom. He was very much futuristic and
successful in making decision and creating new ideas pertaining to the situations
with less belief from the investors into billion businesses.

In terms of self concept, self-esteem-

As stated in the case shows Wayne Huizenga is a highly positive, confident


personality who knows his strengths and abilities. Even though he had the such
skills to identify the ideas pertaining to the situations. To enrich the fame and name
in market one must aware of his strengths and if he is confident and positive
towards his ideas he will surely create a fair image into the market. Somehow self
esteem might get convert into ego but the main point is that here the self esteem is
backed by his capabilities and skill to identify the exceptional business
opportunities. And with such self esteem personality he is able to take risks for his
firm and capable to develop new strategies to handle the situation well and this
create positive image towards the market.

Q.3 Why is job satisfaction and organizational commitment so high at


Mirage Resorts? How does Steve Wynn manage to keep his employees
so happy?

Steve Wynn the owner as stated leads to take care of certain factors like do the
workers are happy or they are willing to do any work well and if they lag behind
such then the first priority is given to take care of the individual problems. This
leads to engage the worker well in to the work place. People who work there are
given full of concentration towards their work. It is also stated in the case that if
employees see hotel guest with tiniest frown on their face, don’t ask the supervisor
to take care of it, erase the charge, send dinner back and don’t charge for the room.
Workers are given such priorities means to engage well and create healthy positive
atmosphere inside the hotel and this lead to Organisational commitment of the
individual employees towards the Mirage Resorts.

As stated in the case Mr owner give parties to their employees and there is a
nomination for the best employee of the year who has best keep the customers
happy throughout. And in the very recent year Vietnamese lady has honoured with
such dignity. These are kind of futuristic expenses which are done by the Steve
Wynn to hold his employees trust towards the hotel and they work with such
attitude which leads to the customer’s satisfaction. Mr Owner is very futuristic
kind of personality also which leads to the big fame as satisfying customers
throughout. This kind of business ideas leads any organization well throughout. As
if we give priority to our employees surely we can enrich any milestone positively.
