1.2. Purpose
The purpose of this document is to formalize the existence of the project in the organization, appoint
the project manager and identify the project management team, and assign authority for the project to
proceed and seek the necessary resources to carry out the project’s activities.
The Project Charter is a living document which presents an overview of the project, such as its scope,
timescales, budget, or key risks involved in its implementation.
The Project Charter is the key management product of the Initiation Phase of the project and is a
foundational document subject to formal sign-off by the project Sponsor.
