How Social Media Has Changed How We Consume News

Nicole Martin Former Contributor

Nov 30, 2018

This article shows that in the age of fake news, Social media has become the main
source of news online, specifically from social media. Most people will just scroll
through their newsfeed and stumble upon relevant news content but just read

the headlines or a short video clip of the piece. An average visitor will only read
an article for 15 seconds or less and the average video watch time online is 10
seconds. So many people fall victim to fake news and this is bad because fake
news spreads faster than real news.

MOOCs offer free online courses to a massive number of people

worldwide.

2. How was MOOC made possible today?

MOOC is made possible today especially today we use online learning

because of the pandemics. MOOC’s is very useful today because its offer
online tutorial to supplement a student’s K-12 education.

3. How is it different from taking a course from a college or university?

According on the internet, MOOCs are online courses available to anyone with a
computer and Internet connection. They offer students a way to learn in a setting
similar to an online class, but are usually loosely structured and can be accessed
without paying tuition or committing to an academic program, And base on my
understanding Universities and College are not free to all, we need to pay a
tuition fee and pass their test.

1. Identify problems or an issue that is related to media and information in the

Philippines.

• Slow and expensive Internet

• Hacking
• Cyber Bullying
• Online Scam
• Fake news
2. Among the identified problems, select which you think needed an immediate
attention. Identify what causes the problem and what are the possible ways to solve it.

• I think the Fake news is the most needed an immediate attention. Most of the
people think that the news they read in social media are truth or reliable. We need to
report the fake news to delete it immediately so no one can see the fake news.

3. Design a technology tool that will provide the needed solution to the discussed issue
or problem. You can draw or create a prototype of your technology tool.

-We all know that one of our problem is slow internet connection
so I think this app can help in solving that problem by simply
downloading this app, it can boost our internet connection and it can also clear some
obstacles that is preventing or making our internet connection slow.

ACTIVITIES

ACTIVITY 1: A video of two senior citizens figuring out how to use

a webcam went viral several years ago. Aside from being charming
and funny, what are the advantages when senior citizens learn
how to use the technology? What makes senior citizens or people
in general, media and information literate? Use the space below to
answer the questions.

• The advantages when senior citizens learn how to use the

technologies is they can communicate with their loved ones and
everyone will be media literate because of the use of modern
technologies because not only young people today use technology
but also adults use it. we young people can teach adults to be
smart and they do not just believe what they see in case they are
already using technology
