Introduction
- The builder thanks for the trust and reminds you that your crane is the result of a continuoussearch
to improve the product. It is an effort that our Technicians pursue continually thanks to aconstant
updating in the lifting sector.
- Reading and understanding this publication is an absolute must for the operator that is going to
use the crane.
- The illustrations in the manual are by way of example and not specific only to the crane model
described.
- The specific illustrations of the crane described in this manual are mentioned in section D -
“Description and technical data” (load charts) and in section E - “A ttached documentation”
the technical drawings and the schemes can be found the
- Our After-sale Service is at your disposal to help you to solve any unclear situations you could
findin this publication.

Attention
T he present publication has to be kept near the machine perfectly preserved, in order
to be examined by everyone in every moment. T his only if the person who requires it is
in a certain way connected to the machine or is a public agent employed in the safety
respect in working areas (example: AUSL , IS PSL , etc. ).

Whom the manual is addressed to


The manual includes the instructions that the builder thinks you need to know in order to use the
crane and keep its efficiency at best.
The manual gives you information about the following contents.
1. Safety norms, in order to avoid any risk for the operator and people exposed.
2. Building aspects, technical data, description and explanation about controls.
3. Working and use in action.
4. Times and description of the ordinary maintenance operations to be done by the operator and
extraordinary maintenance times of intervention.
5. Warranty and filling test registers and coupons.
6. Selling out materials composing the crane.

Note
T he present manual relates the instructions concerning a crane mounted on vehicles, on
the contrary the instructions regarding assemblages on ships or fixed structurescould
need further information that you find in other enclosures.
The manual aims to educate and inform all employees who work in contact with the crane and
intends to protect those who use the crane as well as those who are nearby.
The manual does not teach personnel who have experience using the crane, however, it does focus
on the attention required whilst working, the need to apply the safety standards, the importance of
not underestimating the potential hazards when using the crane, the time required to carry out the
work and the importance of implementing accurate assessments and forecasts.
Statistics show that accidents mainly derive from non-compliance with the above-mentioned points,
i.e. the accident is almost always caused by human error. In other words, operating a crane
safely depends on the competent personnel assigned to implement the work.
Each operator must know all necessary information to work correctly.

The manual presents a first summary, which reports in succession the title of the sections, of the
chapters and of its paragraphs, with reference to the page number.

Each section has been divided in chapters, which reports only one subject.
The page numeration is composed by the mark that identifies the section and the progressive page

At the beginning of each section a summary of the subjects related in that section has been

To be practical, the generic graphic refers to machines installed “before the cabin”.

Notes for the owner


- The builder is responsible for the efficiency of the product and for its conformity to the
declarednorms.
- The installator is the company that actually realises the installation of the crane on truck and it is
so responsible for it.
In particular the installator is responsible for:
- the components used for the installation;
- the conformity to the norms issued in the country in which the crane is going to be used, from
the technique safety and road circulation point of view;
- the regulation of the documents for the CE certification of the crane-vehicle installation.

Attention
It is possible that the installator has to reduce the indications of the capacity of the
crane in combining crane/truck; in this case he has to present the new load diagrams
that have to replace those adhesive on the crane and those presented in this manual.
- Make sure always and before any operation the understanding of the content of operating and
maintenance instructions
The Manufacturer is released by any responsibility for damages to persons and/or things if the
prescriptions contained in this manual are not respected.
- The use of non original spare parts, or spare parts not authorized by the manufacturer, the
alterations or tamperings, even small ones, release the Manufacturer by responsibility regarding
the use, the performance and the safety of people, animals and/or things.
Tamperings, even small ones, delete the warranty on the product.
- Mounting accessories (pumps, power take-offs, etc.), possible tools and lifting equipments (grabs,
winches, etc.), oil coolers and any other equipment that might be supplied by the authorized
installer, shall be supplied with operating instructions.
Check all contents and carefully read all prescriptions before starting crane operations.
- Auxiliary equipment must be authorised by the manufacturer and can be assimilated to the model
of the crane.
They must only be installed by Authorised Workshops.

Attention
Functioning regulations and general requirements, assembly and routine maintenance
must be implemented according to the general instructions stipulated in this manual
and the specific recommendations in this section, in compliance with applicable
environmental and accident regulations.
A ny functional anomaly must be immediately noted and reported to the technical
assistance department.
Installations realised after the crane purchase must be in accordance with the technical
specifications issued by the builder and they must be indicated in the present publication (see
sec. D - “Description and technical data”).
The installator is responsible for the respect of technical and normative aspects in operating.
- Installer’s mounted accessories not approved by the Manufacturer, will void CE certification and
Manufacturer’s Warranty.

Terminology

T enant Person who rents the truck with a load crane installed on, when he is
also the operator.
Basic assemblage Crane without optional parts or accessories.
Flying jib See jib.
Pivot Joint and axle of the movement of two elements.
(synonymous: knuckle)
Clamshell bucket Equipment for lifting things composed by mobile valves pivoting one
another.
L oad Any kind of material, which can be lifted by means of safety slings,
and whose dimensions allow a simple and easy handling.
Important!
The word “load” is not meant as people, animals or other things for
which slings, suitable for carrying them safely, are not provided.
S ervice centre A place where personnel are authorised to sell, install, service and
deal with spare parts.
A uthorised dealer See “authorised service centre”.
Power system System that transmits energy or power, used to improve the movement
to whatever element of the crane (hydraulic, electric, pneumatic,
etc.).
Power take-off control Part, installed during the vehicle building or at a later stage, which
enables or disenables the power take-off. It can be mechanical,
electrical or hydraulic depending on the kind of vehicle.
Counter-frame Structural element between the vehicle frame and the crane, which is
able to absorb the strains caused by the machine.
Builder Producer of the crane.
CE Declaration Document issued by the manufacturer to declare that the machine
of Conformity according complies with the Machine Directive. Since the machine has been sold
to enc. II of M.D. point B but not installed, the Declaration of Conformity does not comprise the
installation of the machine. The installer, who has the task to install the
machine, is also responsible for issuing the EC technical papers.
CE Declaration Document issued by the crane installer to certify the conformity of the
of Conformity according machine installation with the Machine Directive.

Distance Dimensional parameter to assess the lifting mass at a specific distance

Hook Mechanical component, fitted with a safety device, used to secure the
slings tightly to the outermost end of the crane.
Retaining ring Connects the hook to the crane structure.
Heavy-duty Crane used at max. allowed limits. carry out maintenance inspections
more frequently.
L imiting device Device controlling the capacity connected to the safety actions
foreseen in case of over passing the capacity.
Crane levelling Obtained by means of stabilizers
Machine Vehicle with crane connected to the vehicle itself by power systems
and in agreement with the vehicle itself.
Cylinder Oleo dynamic element (cylinder), which improves the movements to
the different parts of the crane.
Mass Load weight.
Moment Effort which the load produces considering the extension.
A uthorised service centre A place where personnel are authorised to install, test and deal with
spare parts. authorised service centres can also work as points of
sale.
Operator Person employed in the moving and positioning the load, in the ordinary
maintenance and in cleaning the crane.
Crane operator Person who works with the crane moving and positioning loads.
L oad oscillation Forbidden operation as it might cause danger to people, things,
animals and environment.
L oad moving part The whole components of the crane, which include ring gear, column,
booms, hydraulic extensions, jib and the controls, which improve their
movements.
S tabilising part The whole components of the crane, which include subframe,
basement, cross beams, stabilizing cylinders and the controls, which
improve their movements.
Exposed person Every person who is completely or partially in a dangerous area.
Hydraulic pump Hydraulic part connected to the power take-off which feeds the
hydraulic system.
Pressure switch Element, which commutates an electric connection when joining the
setting pressure.
Jib Articulated mechanical element that has to be insert in the last
extension of the basic crane and connected to the power system of
the crane in order to increase the distance of lifting.
Owner Person owner of the vehicle with the crane installed on. .
Plate capacity Maximum load lifted by the crane considering the extension. The
values are indicated in the load diagram.
P.t .o. Acronym meaning the power take-off.
Dead-point Position limit (usually of the movement of spin) beyond which it is not
possible to carry out the movement.
Operating range Covers the outermost points which can be reached by the crane in
relation to the handled load and the overall dimensions.
Responsible for safety The owner and/or the tenant and/or the worker with the erecting yard
responsible, if he realises lifting operations (loading and/or unloading)
in areas considered as erecting yards, in industrial areas and in public
or private areas.

Risk The result given by probability cause-effect and the seriousness of the
damages or the possible damages to health in an action to be done.
Extension (widening) Distance between the column axis and the load axis.
Extensions Word not correctly used in this branch of industry to indicate a
telescopic element hydraulically moved.
S tabilise Basic operation to be executed in order to work safely. it comprises
the choice of a proper working area and the inspection of the surface
supporting the stabilisers rods.
L oad dragging Forbidden operation which might cause damages to the crane
structure and dangerous situations.
T ransducer Element, which transforms a pressure signal in an electric signal
Valve Element responsible for the functioning and controlling the hydraulic
system.
Vehicle Means of transportation such as: truck, road tractors, motor vehicles for
special use, trailers trucks, articulated lorry and trailers, homologatedfor
the road circulation and on which a crane is installed.
Winch Simple machine for the load lifting where a motor engine winds/unwinds
a rope on a rotating cylinder.
Dangerous area Whatever area by a crane in which there is always present a risk for
(or working area) the safety and the health of people exposed.
Remote control Device supporting the controls to activate the crane at a distance by
using radio waves.
Remote control Device supporting the controls to activate the crane at a distance by
using a cable.
Control Whatever device (push button, lever, selector etc. ), which activates,
regulates and controls the crane.

Intended use

Intended use
Crane was designed and manufactured to be installed on vehicles certified to road circulation and
doomed to vertical lifting of free charges, lower or equal to the given load charts (see section H -
“Description and technical data”).

Attention
T he use of the crane in heavy situation (example: frequent moving of maximum loads, bad
environmental conditions, etc.), leads to several checking up and/or maintenances.

Note
L ifting people is forbidden, exception made in case of a specific certification allowing
the lifting of people issued by an authorised agency.

2006/42/EC Norm of the European Parliament and of the Council regarding the

Warnings for the use

Warnings for the use


Safety is a primary social and economic asset: besides the obvious human cost of accidents,
increasing operational safety leads to actual commercial and also productive benefits, since the
operator’s work is not necessarily hindered.
The operator is set in safety conditions thanks to the training received and experience and can
prevent potential difficulties and problems pertaining to the work being carried out as s/he can
foresee the risks or hazards that could cause an accident.
Accidents are expensive in terms of money, idle time, public administration investigations and surveys,
increase in insurance premiums, court cases due to criminal liability, civil liability and damages.

Operator’s position
The operator position in relation to the machine position must grant the safety conditions inside the
area.
Check always out the controls access and the visibility on the encumbrance areas in particular the
placing, working and closing operations.

Danger
It is forbidden to move the load letting it transit over the operator or over people in the
working area.

Crane has specific controls whose position is perfect for the operator’s job, following the ergonomic
standard of a medium size person.
It is compulsory having a sufficient space around the controls to work freely and going away in case

different positions (for instance the radio remote control levers and the control valve

In case of sudden movements cause by simultaneous use of the controls in the different stations

T he correct and safe use require to check, before operating, the max. outspread of the
stabilizing beams and the correct clamping of mechanical safety locks.

Ground and settling structures must be flat, compact, resistant and not yielding (best are concrete,
asphalt and compressed ground), related to the strength transmitted by the stabilizing cylinder
during load lifting.
It is important to take precautions to ensure the ground or base on which the machine will be
used is compact and stable, is of adequate bearing capacity and there is appropriate friction.
T herefore, planks may have to be laid to distribute the load, or plates (material is not supplied),
or the stabilising base must be widened, etc.
T he bottom line is to ensure that the stabilisers do not sink into the ground and do not move.
In some cases (slippery or icy surfaces, etc.), adequate solutions must be found, for instance the
wheels can be blocked with wood, stop wedges, etc.
Once the crane is stabilised, the ground may be subject to poor conditions, such as settling of the
terrain, which depends on the inclination of the machine, hence, its stability.

The following are typical conditions of the ground that requires particular attention:
• U ncompacted filling material:
earth or other filling material can be piled along a trench that is filled but not compacted.
Cracks in the terrain along the trench are an indication of uncompacted filling material.

• U nderground and basement areas:


generally they cannot withstand the weight of the machine, with and without a load, therefore, the
ground may give way suddenly.
• U nderground services:
sewers, manholes, drains, wells, gas and water pipelines, etc. can be damaged by the weight of
the platform or may not withstand the load, sink and cause the machine to tilt over.
• Extremely slippery and smooth surfaces:
very low friction between the stabilisers and the ground (for instance friction between steel and
marble with frost) can cause the machine to slide, especially if inclined, even after having stabili-
sed the machine and this leads to serious consequences.
• Weather conditions:
heavy or incessant rainfall can alter the conditions of the ground and cause subsidence; if you
see or suspect that the ground has become too soft you must evaluate the action to be taken
so as to ensure the machine is kept level and assess the bearing capacity of the support beds,
widen the stabilising base, etc. However, do not go near the area in question.
Thereafter, monitor the change in the conditions of the ground regularly.

Attention
Frozen terrain may seem more stable than it actually is, as this may melt during the day
and alter the bearing capacity conditions.

Do not set the stabilisers in place on edges of embankments, slopes, uneven ground, etc. Where
possible, the stabilisers must only be set on ground that is flat or made level.
Should the stabilisers be set on edges of em-
bankments, slopes, uneven ground, etc. the fol-
lowing requirements must be met:
- uncompacted ground: D = 2a D
- compacted ground: D = a

Check that every stabiliser and the relative supporting material makes complete contact with the
ground before starting the works and thereafter, implement regular inspections.
If in doubt about the conditions of the ground, refer to the site manager.

The going down of the supporting cylinders must not compromise the stability of the exercise. Forthis
reason both the placing and the levelling must be realised with the crane closed, checking out that
the machine keeps being in plane (±1°) through the level bubbles in each of the control station. This
when the levelling is automatic (self-levelling), but also when it is manual.
Before removing the crane from its idle position, ensure that the machine has been stabilised and
levelled properly, within the design limits stipulated by the manufacturer (e.g. 1st) and that it is
positioned on a surface that is stable and adequate for the maximum force exerted on the ground
by the stabilisers (shown on the relative plate affixed on them).

The lifting of the vehicle must keep the wheels of the vehicle adherent to the ground and however it
must unload the leaf spring from the load of the crane.
If the truck has got pneumatic suspensions, it is necessary to unload the rubber bellows, in order to
avoid the effect spring on them during the lifting phase of the load.

- Engage the vehicle’s handbrake, otherwise the vehicle can move during the lifting
operations.
T he brake system is only effective if the wheels it blocks touch the ground with
adequate friction (usually the rear wheels). T his is essential on sloping ground.
- Block the central wheels with suitable wedges or chocks for safety purposes.
- N ever use the stabilisers to keep the vehicle stopped, even in this instance the vehicle
can move and the stabilisers will be damaged.

The approaching of loads must be at a moderate speed and paying attention, so that any collision
with the crane or with the jib and also any possible lateral swinging of the booms are avoided.

and supplementary stabilizers (if required) when
not working, and then the already done lifting of

Before driving cranes equipped with crosspieces or manual widening on the road,
verify that the indicator inside the cabin signals that they are closed properly (a lit
green light).
If the red light is lit and the buzzer is active, get off the vehicle and verify that the
crosspieces are positioned correctly and check the integrity of the signalling system.

Lifting devices and accessories can be anchored to the crane during the displacement or the
circulation of the vehicle, only if you respect the laws concerning maximum dimensions and masses
allowed. However be always sure that they are rightly locked/fastened.

Before moving the vehicle and driving it on the road, always verify that the indicator
inside the cabin is lit green.
S hould this be red and the buzzer active, get off the vehicle and verify that the
configuration of the crane’s height falls within the permitted limits.

The crane can work correctly at an environmental temperature between -20°C e +45°C.
If you reported a different degree, working with the crane would be forbidden without the right

The electric equipment works correctly at an atmospheric conditions with a humidity less than 85%
at a max temperature of +45° C.
Higher humidity is allowed with inferior temperatures.
With a higher humidity and a temperature near 0° you would incur in a block of the mechanical
electric and safety systems.
Check out their correct working before using the crane.

Radiations

Some bothersome troubles (causing uncontrolled crane movements) might happen if the electrical
devices are exposed to magnetic fields and/or parts radiations (X ray, gamma rays, etc.)
This depends upon the release value and the distance of the crane.
It’s important to take information by the competent authorities and, in case of doubt, to operate at a
distance or with manual controls (not radio controls).
In some radio remote controls (not ionized electro-magnetic fields), when pushing the emergency
stop-button the electrical device is protected.

Visibility and light

Before placing the crane, check out the visibility norms, avoiding shadow cones, stroboscopic and
dazzling effects, darken environment (fog, smokes, etc. ).
Do not work if a reasonable safety and visibility is not granted in the working area and in particular
near the load and the controls.
If you have to work in barely lighted up areas, illuminate the area with lighting devices, connected to
energy source not in relation to the machine.
In this case do not point the supplementary lighting devices to the operator’s eyes, but place them at
the worker’s shoulders, so that you could illuminate rightly the working area without dazzling him.

Electric discharges
Windy conditions can cause the cables to swing beyond the distance allowed and reach the crane,
thereby causing electrical discharge.
The electric discharge is a danger for all the exposed people’s lives, so you have to keep the crane
its accessories and the load at the distances indicated in the table here reported.

truck or from the load;
- the workers within a beam of 10 m must go out skipping with the legs closed and united;
- avoiding any contact with the crane truck and/or load;
- warning the workers around of the impending danger, forbidding them to stay by or touch the
crane truck and load;

It is very important to be aware that the speed of wind increases with height off the ground and can
increase by 50% at 20 metres off the ground. Furthermore, there lies a cooling factor caused by
the wind and the height, i.e. the speed of the wind increases together with the height, however the
temperature drops.
You must pay attention when lifting sheets/plates of material that have a large surface used to coat
buildings, panels and other material that can act as a “sail”: even the minimum force exerted by the
wind on a large surface becomes significant and can seriously jeopardise the stability of a crane,
especially in conditions of gusts of wind.

will be less than or equal to those felt at the wheel of the vehicle.

The control emplacement is unique and it is composed by a moving panel control.


The operator must sit in a position, which could grant him the complete control on the crane and
the working area, in order to grant safety and complete visibility of the load and of the places
underneath.

Attention
With the connection made, it is forbidden to leave unguarded or abandoned the tele/
radio remote control.
If it was necessary to put the panel control away, you had to:
- be sure that any keys are not inserted;
- place it in a protect place accessible only by the authorised people.

Note
U se always the supporting belt for the panel in order to realise precise and uniform
movements in complete safety.

Attention

All workstations have a spirit level for the vehicle to be stabilised within the permitted values.

Jobs
Every operator has some jobs to do and he must respect them.
The operative people who work with a crane are:

Employed in the use of the crane

- Before using the crane in erecting yards or in industrial areas, he takes information from the safety
responsible of the area about the possible dangers in the area in which the crane has to work and
about the dangers you could cause by using the crane.
- He chooses the place in which operate and park the vehicle with the crane.
- He delimitates the working area to avoid the entrance to non-authorised people.
- He fastens the load with ropes and/or chains or through lifting accessories in relation to the
capacity.
- He values the direction to take with the load and the relative danger degree given by the possible
presence of obstacles.
- He realises the lifting operations, putting and realising the load.
- He realises the operations for closing the crane for a transport in complete safety.
- He controls visually the crane searching possible anomalies.
- He checks out the state and legibility of the loading diagrams and of the plates applied on the
crane.

Driver of the vehicle

- He checks out the correct position of the closed crane and the correct insertion of the present
mechanical locks.
- He drives the truck assembled with the crane from a working area to another one in complete
safety.

Employed in the ordinary maintenance

- He checks out the state of preservation of the crane, the wear of the sliding elements (ex. :
wearpads on the booms), flexible pipes and possible leakages.
- He realises the ordinary maintenance as foreseen and as frequently indicated in the present
publication.
- He signals unexpected situations (as wears, fallings down, breaks, etc. ) to the authorised shop
and to the crane’s owner.
- He checks out that the supplementary maintenance have been realised by authorised shops as
frequently indicated in the present manual.
- He fills the coupons and the control register.

Responsible for the safety in the erecting yard and in the industrial area

He informs the operator employed to the use of the crane about:


- dangers present in the working area and on those that could be created by using the crane;
- possible presence of workers in the dangerous area (area of manoeuvre of the crane) that cannot
abandon the working area because of particular jobs;
- possible emissions of dangerous substances in the air or in the ground that could compromise
the safe movement of the loads;
- Safety devices compulsory in the working area.

Responsible for the safety of the crane

- He informs the employed to the use of the crane about the dangers that could be produced by
using the crane.

Danger
T he responsible for the safety of the crane must watch over the crane to avoid an
improper use of it; to avoid any possible damages to the operator, exposed people,
animals and material present in the working area.

Operator suitability
The operator’s aptitude requisites, knowledge and training must be respondent to the norm ISO
9926-1:1992.
Suitability of the machine operator must first be verified by health checks, in strict compliance with
the law applicable in the Country of use.
The machine must be used by a trained operator who has no problems pertaining to sight or
hearing.
T he owner is responsible for the checking out also through test or inclination inquiry that:
- the operator employed to the use of the crane is able following the professional medical visit;
- the operator is a person physically and mentally wealthy, aware and responsible of the
possibledangers that could occur by using the crane and a person who is able of self-control
even in highlystressing situations;
- the operator employed to the functioning and/or maintenance of the crane is wealthy and that he
does not present pathology that could arise suddenly;
- the operator has good sight (even if through eyeglasses or lenses), good hearing, ready reflexes,
good movements coordination;
- the operator does not take substances that could alter his physical and mental capacities
(medicines, alcohol, drugs, etc. ).
Non-perfect physical conditions can be the causes of serious damages to himself, but also
topeople, animals or material good in the working area of the crane;
- the operator is able to read and comprehend the documents, symbols, stickers and working
diagrams applied on the crane;
- the operator knows that it is not allowed to use the crane for strangers, because they do not know
the risks and dangers they can cause;
- the operators must have specific skills and must have participated in the training course;
- the operator is at least 18 years old;
- the operator has got a regular driving licence valid in that country, in case he has to drive the
vehicle on which the crane is mounted.

Norms of behaviours
The builder suggest proceeding norms, accepting the main norms for safety:
Each worker must take care for his and others safety and wealth, considering his own formation
and the instructions given by the employer; practically taking care of those people on whom
the effects of actions or omissions could fall on during the working.
In order to realise such aims, the workers have to:
- use correctly the machines, devices, equipments, dangerous substances, transport equipments
and other vehicles;
- use correctly the individual protections and after using put them on their proper place back;
- do not put out of order, replace or change place to the safety devices arbitrarily, but use them
correctly;
- signal to the employer and/or to the employed in safety every situations that could be
reasonablyconsidered a real and immediate danger for safety and wealth; for the same reason
you have to signal also whatever defect found in protecting systems;
- cooperate with the employer and/or with the employed in safety for the protection of the safety and
wealth of the workers during the working, respecting the national norms and the duties imposed
by the competent authority;
- cooperate with the employer and/or with the employed in safety for the realisation of environmental
and working conditions without any risk of danger, in order to grant to workers safety and wealth
in the working area, respecting the national norms.

Furthermore, the employer has to:


- check out that workers and their agents know the laws and safety norms;
- check out that the workers and their agents respect the laws and safety norms;
- give all the necessary information for the respect of the operator’s safety and wealth;
- respect the issued safety and wealth norms.

Task
In the lifting operations man engages highly the muscles of the arms, trunk and the bones structure,
in particular the backbone.
The backbone supports lifted loads by using the disks that are crushed between the vertebrae.

Danger
It is necessary that the backbone is in an erected position, to avoid damages, the
classical backache and in serious cases the break of the disk with also consequences
such as invalidity.
The right technique to lift loads from the round has to be done in three phases:
- squatting well balanced keeping the legs a little divaricated;
- taking for the lifting operation;
- erecting the trunk.
Let the legs muscles work and keep the load near the body.

Two lights and a buzzer are found on the vehicle’s dashboard in a position that is clearly seen from
the driver’s seat.
Warning light that indicates the status of the manually widened crosspieces (if present)

in the correct retracted position.
Driving on the road in such conditions is not permitted.

In case you had emergency situations (anomalies in functioning, using, maintenance, etc. ) given
also by external elements, it would be necessary to intervene as soon as possible, by inhibiting
thecrane functioning with the emergency device.
Each control station has got a device, which allows the operator to stop the crane functions in case
of a sudden danger.
The device stops the crane movement, discharging directly the hydraulic oil of the delivery duct.
Operate the emergency to stop any movement
of the crane.
To have the crane operative again, it is neces-
sary to restore:
- The work conditions.
- The safety conditions.
- The functionality of the device, in case

IT IS FORBIDDEN to push the button, while you are doing fast manoeuvres, because it

Check all the devices on the crane.
In case the device had an irreparable damage, causing the impossibility to close the crane for the
transport, you should contact the closer assistance shop, to get all the information to restore the
device and that to get the crane re-entering manoeuvres.
However, in particular circumstances, it could be necessary to prevent any device function, to
complete the re-entrance manoeuvres for the transport.

to establish whether the crane can operate in the area in front of the driver’s cabin or
if it necessary to reduce the rotation range to 180°(i.e. the working area near the
body).
In order to reduce the rotation range, the manufacturer provides a suitable ‘end of stroke’ kit (op-
tional) which can be installed into the rotation cylinders to prevent rotation in the area in front of the
cabin.

Attention
The installation of the end of stroke kit can be performed by the manufacturer (if inclu-
ded in the order) or by any authorised installer.

General precautions
Before using the crane it is mandatory to have red and understood the previous chapters and in
particular section “B - S afety”.
If you had some more doubts, you could ask more information to the Builder’s technicians.

Inspections and examinations before starting


The service checks and daily inspections must be carried out by the operator before and after using
the crane, by following the instructions provided by the manufacturer.
For a correct use and observance of the safety parameters, every operation must precede the
following inspections:
- Correct closing of the tie rods crane-frame-subframe.
- Free sliding of the control levers.
- Correct connection of the quick coupling and of the electric connections.
- Inspection for possible oil leakage from hoses, connections and valves.
- Integrity for valves and hoses.
- Pipes functioning.
- Inspection of the carpentry and relief of possible fissures and cracks, paying particular attention
to the welded area (discontinuities and cracks in paint that could prelude damages to the
structure).
- Monitoring the mobile integrity and functionality of the lifting hook (see below).
- Efficiency of the lifting accessories.
- Integrity and readability of diagrams, symbols and warnings on the machine.
- safety devices functioning.
- Functionality of the moment limiting device: move the main cylinder up to the end of stroke until it
is blocked.
- Hooks and stabiliser plates must be thoroughly cleaned and all grease or dirt must be removed.
- Lights and horn (if present) must function properly.
- The level of fuel, water and oil must be suitable and the batteries must be fully charged.
- Verifying that all controls and devices work properly: all motorised movements, extension, upward,
downward, rotation, etc. must work properly; all positions reached must be maintained (efficient
block valves on the boom and on the stabilisers).
- Sound the horn to warn other nearby operators that the crane is about to be used.

Attention
A fter a break or a brief going away from the machine, be sure that the devices set up
before have not been modified or that the machine does not present any vandalism or
violation.

Precautions during use


- The operator should be in a position from which he can control the load way and the area
presenting the movements.
- It is forbidden to move the booms of the crane and/or the load on the operator and/or people in
the work area.
- It is strictly forbidden to lean to the parts in movement.
- Do not use the crane for aims different from those foreseen by the builder.
- Check always and previously that the working crane and each of its parts do not produce
dangerous situations for people, things and animals.
- Get individual protecting systems foreseen by the issued norms preventing accidents.
- If it was necessary to control the emergency, restore the productive system only after having
removed the dangerous conditions.
- If maintenance is required, such as replacing clogged filters or optical indicators, or components
must be greased, the operator can keep on working until the end of the shift.
- If maintenance is required, such as replacing pipes or seized pins, or there are cracks in the
structure or safety devices are broken, it is strictly forbidden to continue working.
Immediately see to the maintenance required.

Checks and verification

Hooks
Use serial or optional hooks supplied by the crane builder.
In case you use different hooks from those supplied by the builder, check out:
- the respect of the prescribed norms;
- the load they should support or lift that must be sustained by its capacities;
- their good conditions.
The hooks must have the closing device or limitation at the entrance, in order to avoid the ropes,
chains or other to come unhooked.
The hook supplied is a hook with an eye-bolt and spacer.

Such accessories must bear the CE marking (a special label that defines the manufacturer, technical

• Steel wire tie-rods: safety coefficient 5.
• Chains and chain tie-rods: safety coefficient 4.

Remember the following guidelines during use:


1) Before use, inspect the tie-rods to verify that there are no defects.

4) Protect the tie-rods from cuts and abrasions by using the necessary guards.
5) Never tie knots or twist the tie-rods during use.
6) Never use the tie-rods at a temperature that exceeds 100°.

Equipment used to lift the load


Follow the tips below when using wire and chain tie-rods for the lifting operations:
• Never use slings with loads that exceed their maximum capacity (indicated on the label).
• When using slings with a number of arms, bear in mind that the capacity varies when the vertex
angle varies.
• Always inspect the status of the slings before each lifting process.
• Always protect the rope that comes in contact with sharp edges or borders with a bend radius

Variation in capacity
To know the actual capacity of a tie-rod being used with a particular vertex angle, divide the vertical
capacity by coefficient “C” in the diagram (increase load factor); it is recommended not to use tie-
rods with a difference at the vertex that exceeds 120°; the capacity varies significantly when this limit
is exceeded, even with small variations in the angle; at 120°, the vertical capacity is already halved
(it is divided by coefficient 2).
For example:
to know the capacity of a sling with 2 booms and a vertical capacity of 10000 kg, at a vertex angle
of 70° (the angle can be found on the table, knowing the ratio of the length to each L arm and the
distance from the A couplings).
Dividing the vertical capacity (10000 kg) by the coefficient in the diagram, that which corresponds
to the vertex angle 70° (C=1,221) will result in the capacity of the sling used at a vertex angle of 70°
being reduced from 10000 kg to 8190 kg.

- Keep a log of all the slings being used.
- Do not lift with a twisted chain.
- The chain must be shortened with the relative grab hook - Knots are not permitted.

- Always use a sling with appropriate dimensions, bearing the angle in mind and any asymmetry of

The optimal use of the crane is when the operating pressure is not at a maximum and the limiting
devices are not triggered - conditions that can be achieved by being careful to work with a minimum
of straddles and lever booms of the elevated cylinders.

Precautions to be respected on the installation


For a good functioning of the crane it would
be better if the oil had a viscosity included
between 100 and 12 cS t (suggested the
interval 70÷20 cS t) during working.
As a consequence the oil type A gip OS O 46
should work with a temperature included between
25 and 75 °C (suggested the interval 30÷60 °C).
The limit of cool starting is 1000 cS t (-5° with
OS O 46) and however never activate the crane
with an oil temperature less than a -20°C.

Attention
A n oil temperature lower than the minimum operating temperature, which corresponds
to a viscosity higher than 250 cS t (10°C with VG 46 oil), creates conditions for some
components and devices to malfunction (radio control not active, pump cavitation at
high revs, lower performance of the HPV device, etc.).

The limit of oil overheating corresponds to a viscosity limit of 10 cS t (80 °C with oil OS O 46).
Never go over a temperature of 80 °C.

Attention
If the temperature is going to go over the 80°C, it is necessary to contact the A uthorised
S hops. T his solution becomes essential when verifying the installation and/or suitability
of the heat exchanger in the following instances:
- Environment with high temperatures.
- Continuous production with few, short breaks, especially when the configuration
contains a hydraulic joint and more than 3 extension booms.

It is important to choose the right oil in relation tothe ambient temperature and to the kind of work.
It is recommended to use AGI P type of oil or refer to the comparative table (refer to the Maintenance
Manual, chapter “Oil and lubricant specifications”).
For ambient temperature inferior or equal to a 0°C, it is necessary to bring at least the oil to the
minimum temperature for a correct functioning (250 cS t at 10°C with oil A gip OS O 46).
Oil preheating mode is described on section “Cool starting” described on the following pages.

General precautions

Attention
When the oil temperature is less than the minimum work temperature, it is possible to
find some function anomalies even in some devices.

Attention
If the oil temperature tends to exceed 80°C, contact the A uthorised Workshops.

Attention
T o limit the reach of jack’s end-of-stroke. T his steering,repeated many times, heats the
oil and can activate dangerous situations and controls malfunctioning.

Connections

Quick hydraulic coupling


The hydraulic accessories have pipes that can be connected through quick hydraulic couplings.

Attention
When an accessory is connected or removed, clean the connection well as dirt damages
the hydraulic system.

To connect the accessory pipes to the predispositions, it is necessary to:


- Disconnect the pump (power socket).
- Discharge the pressure in the pipes to be connected by activating to the end in both senses
the levers corresponding by the control hydraulic control valve.
- Do the electric connection (see next chapter “Electric connections”).
- Connect the couplings following the colours with which the pipes are distinct.
- Connect the power socket again.
- Move the accessories and verify that they correspond to those stipulated in this booklet and/or
the affixed labels.

Danger
A fter having applied and connected the accessory:
- Verify that it is fastened securely.
- Only then can the crane be used.

To disconnect the couplings, it is necessary to:


- Disconnect the pump (power socket).
- Discharge the pressure in the pipes to be disconnected by acting to the end in both senses
the correspondent levers.
- Take the electric connection away (see next chapter “Electric connections”).

Note
T o move the crane without accessory, insert the electric by-pass plug in the cable of the
standard crane if foreseen.
- Disconnect the quick hydraulic couplings protecting them with safe keeping plugs.
- Connect the power socket again.
- Move the standard crane.

Attention
Interrupt the electric energy during the connection or the disengagement of the
connectors.
Pay attention to the correspondent identifications of the electric connections, in case
the installed accessories include an electric connection.

Connect the accessory electrically, before inserting the hydraulic couplings:


- Realise the operations to disconnect the power socket and to take the pressure out from the
hydraulic system (see chapter “quick hydraulic couplings”).
- Take the electric by-pass plug away (if present) from the cable of the standard crane.
- Take the protecting plug away from the electric cable pin of the accessory.
- Insert the cable pin of the accessory in the cable socket of the standard crane.

To disconnect the accessory to the electric current, it is necessary to:

Ordinary starting
- Activate the stationing break.
- If necessary insert in the exhaust pipe a conduit that could diverge the exhaust gas far from the
operator.
- Activate the motor of the vehicle (or auxiliary motor).
- Engage the power plug.
- let the vehicle cabin be inaccessible.
- Insert the chock holder to the driving wheels.
- Check the position of the emergency push button
- Enable the controls that activate the stabilisation or the movement of the machine.

Cool starting
Starting up when cold differs according to the environmental temperature: with temperature
0°C÷-20°C and temperature -20°C÷-40°C.
In either case, the oil tank must be equipped with a temperature indicator.

Attention
Check always the state of charge of batteries when the vehicle works in low temeperatures
environments.

With temperature 0°C ÷ -20°C

Proceed as follows:
- Start the vehicle motor (or auxiliary motor)
with low motor rpm.
- Engage the power plug.
- Activate the electrical functions of the crane;
- let the vehicle cabin be inaccessible.
- Keep the motor activated at the minimum
speed for 3-5 minutes.
- Insert the chock holder to the driving
wheels.
- Check the position of the emergency push
button.
- Enable the controls that activates the
stabilization or the moving of the crane ()
through the hydraulic flow diverter.
- Place the crane in a work position.
- Align the main and second boom in a horizontal position.
- Realise operations of cylinders end of stroke (ex. : second boom).
Continue the operation till the oil reaches the minimum temperature of work (10-15 °C) (check it
through the crane speed).

Tanks that are heated with electric resistors are available on the market.
However, by modifying the pre-installed tank, the exhaust gas of the vehicle can be passed through
the tank, thereby heating the oil before it is used.

Proceed as follows:
- Start the engine of the vehicle and keep it running at the minimum idle speed for 3-5 minutes.
- Connect the power take-off whilst maintaining the engine rpm low for 2 minutes.
- Perform minimal movements on the crane with some end of stroke movements of the jacks until
the oil reaches a temperature of 10°C / 15°C.

Attention
L imit the joining of the cylinders end of stroke till the right work temperature.
- Insert the chock holder to the driving wheels.
- Check the position of the emergency push button.
- Enable the controls that activates the stabilization or the moving of the crane through the hydraulic
flow diverter.

Attention
It is recommended not to use the crane at extreme temperatures (-40°C).
Do not use the radio control (if present) outdoors as the operator’s reflexes and
movements are slower at such temperatures.

Crane blockage
The movement limiting device is designed to protect the crane from manoeuvres that will result in
loads in excess of the maximum permissible limits.
When the relative limit is exceeded the crane will enter emergency blocked status.
Recovery from a blockage condition depends on the type of device that has tripped.

Hydraulic moment limiter


To recover from the blockage the boom sections must be retracted, irrespective of the specific
manoeuvre that caused the blockage.
If the blockage occurs when the boom sections are fully retracted, alternate the sections retraction
command (A ) with a command that causes the load to approach the column axis (see pictures 1,
2, 3, 4).

Opening crane

it is forbidden to perform replying manoevres from the side in which the crane must be
folded up.

With the remote control we suggest you to realise the folding manoeuvres on the same
closing side of the crane, keeping always at a proper distance.
- Complete the retraction of all the extensions of the jib (if on).

Retract the jib extensions and then those of the crane.

5 Using the spring lever, partially retract the cross beam;

7 Extend the outrigger foot in order to cause the cylinder to retract.
8 Fit pin (B) into the location on the cross beam.
9 Withdraw pin (A) from (A1).
10 Using the spring lever, fully retract the stabilizer cylinder;

If the stabilizer cross beam lock is composed of a pin, once the stabilizer cylinder

Stop
- Deactivate the radio remote control (if on);
- deactivate the electric functions of the crane;
- take the chock holder from the driving wheels away;
- disconnect the power inlet;
- stop the motor of the vehicle (or auxiliary motor).

Precautions after the use


- Set the equipment used for lifting again (ropes, bands, etc.).
- Fasten the equipment or the free accessories to avoid any shaking or falling from the truck body
during the transport.
- Take the placards and signals used to limit the area.
- Clean and rearrange the area in which you worked, to restore the situation as closer as possible
to the previous condition, before working.

Attention
In case the work had modified or reduced the safety, it would be better to signal it to the
safety responsible of the erecting yard or to the area owner, or personally marking the
danger with right signals.
- Take the keys from the closings away and from the devices, which foresees the use of them
andplace them inside the cabin.
- Recharge the battery of the radio control (if present).

Production pause
In the case the general conditions of the machine must be:
- Vehicle with deactivated motor.
- Deactivated power system.
- Load leaned on the ground.
- Boom of the crane leaned on the plane.
- Extended stabilizers.
- Extended stabilizer cylinders and leaned on the ground.
- The gates and the boards of the crane and the vehicle, provided with lock with padlock or key are
blocked.
- The area in which we find the machine is limited and signalled.
- The operator can now temporarily leave the machine unmanned.

Note
If the operator remains in the area, it is not essential to lock doors and panels equipped
with locks.

Attention
T he accessories (full extension, winch, bucket, etc.) do not have to be removed when
the work has been completed or the crane is not to be used, provided that the crane is
not left in a hazardous configuration.

General description
This crane operates in the field of the lifting of free loads, not bound (trees, poles etc.)
This model exists in several versions, that distinguish themselves by the number of hydraulic exten-
sions in the secondary boom
This machine is sized in accordance with standard DIN 15018 in class H1-B3 and H2-B3.
Class H1: Ifting with hook.
Class H2: lifting with a bucket.
U nit B3: when cranes are classified in this category, they can reach 200000 cycles (*) if the load va-
ries between the maximum and 2/3, whilst operating with progressive manoeuvres.
U nit B2: when cranes are classified in this category, they can reach 200000 cycles (*) if the load va-
ries between the maximum and 1/3, whilst operating with progressive manoeuvres.
‘Cycle’ refers to the lifting and lowering process of a load.

Crane’s predicted service life is 200,000 working cycles.
Where a working cycle is intended to be a complete cycle involving load lifting and deposition in a
3 minute period (average).
Based on this assumption, we can figure out the estimated average lifespan depending on crane’s

Work sectors
The performances are conditioned by the kind of installation and by the work angle of the crane.
When the crane is installed behind the cab, the work sector can be as follows:
1 - 360° with rated lifting capacity
2 - 180° with lifting capacity decrease in the front 180° sector
3 - 180° rear, with front rotation lock.
With crane mounted rear overhang, working area is 360° with nominal capacity (pic. 4).

When you test the installation, the performances are to be checked, to be confirmed or

L oad diagrams

Load diagrams
The load diagrams are applied on the lever protections or near the control stations and they states
the limits in which you can work in safety conditions.
The indications on the diagram refer to the horizontal configuration and to the configurations of max.
performance in extension (load curves).
If you wanted to lift the maximum loads indicated on the diagram of the standard crane. you should
not apply any kind of device with the exception of the hook supplied by the builder.
It is strictly forbidden to exceed limit values and distances shown in the capacity diagram.
For cranes without safety devices it is strictly forbidden to extend or lower loads heavier than those
indicated in the diagram circled by the load curves.
For cranes with safety devices never come over the load curves; the intervention of the load-limiting
device can cause useless stress to the crane and load swinging.
To reach the maximum performances in vertical (vertical lifting of loads till the limit of the maximum
capacity) indicated on the diagram. it could be necessary to deactivate the regenerative device.
Each load indicated in the diagram is the total useful load that can be lifted and the mass of the lifting
accessories (chain. ropes. blocks. etc.) and/or any lifting equipment (buckets. pallet holders. etc.)
connected directly to the crane.
The maximum distance allowed in the horizontal layout can be evaluated approximately by identifying
the extended booms.
The load that can be lifted between two subsequent extensions. in the horizontal layout. will be an
average value with respect to the relative loads of the previous and next extension.
The operator must respect the work areas of every load. closed off by relative curves on the diagram
that must never be accessed.
These curves are arcs of a great circle for cranes that have no moment limiting device (fig. A ) and
inclined bends for cranes with a moment limiting device (fig. B).
The automatic intervention of the moment limiting device does not let the load curves shown in the
graphics be accessed.
In practice. cranes with no moment limiting device can (but it is strictly forbidden) access these
curves in the shape of arcs of a great circle (fig. A ) by extending the booms and causing the load to
be lowered uncontrollably. which can lead to structural failure. tipping over and serious danger for
the persons exposed.
Cranes with the “speed increase” device disabled can reach maximum vertical efficiency shown in
the load diagram (refer to chapter “Extensions speed increasing”).
