Lesson 1.1 Learning Task

In your own words and understanding, comprehensively describe the current state of
agriculture in the Philippines and its impact on our economy.

- Based on what I’ve read on the articles, we all know and aware that agriculture really
have an impacts to our lives. It remains as one of the most economically significant and
promising industries in the Philippines in terms of its vast potential and opportunities for
expansion and growth. The current state of agriculture in the Philippines of all sectors faces
challenges- and that they experience great struggles about their farming. It highlighted the
importance of agriculture in the country, and the challenges they faced must be a warning sign
of the government to accelerate agricultural transformation. Agriculture remain as the most
crucial and important in the economy of the Philippine. Agriculture has a contribution to the
overall economy but the domestic product has been declining over the years. By this, our
economy is affected because of the small percentage of the employees due to the declining of
the agricultural products. The labor productivity in agriculture is lower relative to the other
sectors, and that the structural transformation taking place in the Philippines economy is rather
slow and weak. At this point, our rice farmers who feed us was the one who suffered a lot from
financial and encountered those problems in the production of rice such as the high cost of
inputs, low price of “palay”, lack of capital, labor problem, lack of postharvest facilities and
irrigation system. They really work and feed us but there salary was low. As a matter of fact,
we experiencing this COVID-19 pandemic, we are not preparing on what the virus affects to
our lives. Our daily life changed, we don’t have an enough supply of food that’s why our
president of the Philippines decided to import a rice coming from the other countries.
