World Food Production

Food production is one of the multiple land uses

for which demand is increasing and which are
competing for productive and accessible land.
Food production derived from agriculture depends
on a wide diversity of crop species found across
the planet. As many as 100 different crops used for
human food are registered in global agricultural
databases, and many more are locally grown and
consumed.
Food Production in the Philippines

Food production is a complex matter, affecting

people' s life, organizations profits, and the
well-being. It is not always straightforward to
say what is right and what is wrong when it
comes to production of food.
Many ethical questions can be raised. Climate
change, animal welfare, fair trade, health and
safety of employees as well as consumers, fair
treatment of employees and their social rights,
economic sustainability, and use of natural
resources are all important dimensions within the
system of production, processing, trade, and where
every food item often includes value conflicts.
The Philippines is still primary an agricultural country
despite the plan to make it an industrialized economy by
2000. Most citizens still live in rural areas and support
themselves through agriculture.
The country’s agriculture sector is made up or 4 sub-
sectors: farming, fisheries, livestock, and forestry which
together employ 39.8 percent of the labor force and
contribute of 20 percent of Gross Domestic Product(GDP).
Most of the features of a modern agriculture sector
are in place but what had been lacking for the most
part are:
 The political will to fully invest in its requirements
 Concentration and sustained efforts
 Coordination and convergence of public and
private investments and interventions
 Greater transparency and accountability in the use
of public funds.

AGRICULTURE INDUSTRY IN THE PHILIPPINES
Agriculture in the Philippines is one of the
essential industry, it consists of forestry, crop
production, livestock farming, and aquaculture
cultivation. Its outputs sustains the local demand
and considered to be the essentials commodities
within the country. Commercial crops assist both
the agricultural export industry as well as the
domestic demand and consumption.
Growing crops for food consumption and fiber
have been a lifelong activity in the Philippines. In
the last few years, cultivating a million hectares of
land has steadily increased. Perhaps what has been
a common scenario recently is how locals are
developing their backyard to raise their plants.
These plants are vegetables and fruits to sustain
their own demand ever since the coronavirus
COVID-19 pandemic has started in the Philippines.
