Replacement of Bearing in Swivel Unit

General Size identification

MacGREGOR Cranes AB declines any
responsibility for the repairs made by personnel
other than its own. Failure to read, understand and
to follow these instructions may cause injury and
property damage.
When the swivel has been opened, an overload test
of the complete unit has to be done. New certificate
must be issued. See instruction 6.000.1 E.
In case of doubt please contact MacGREGOR
Cranes AB, Service Department.
This instruction is only valid for swivels with hook
size 20, 25, 32 or 50 according to DIN 15402.
The size of the hook can be identified by reading
the imprinted text on the hook. See Fig. 1. Two lines
above the text "DIN" you should find a letter followed
by the hook size number.
For instance does the marking text "V20" mean hook
size 20.
Note: This number is not equal to the load capacity
in tons.

Material and tools required

New bearing.
Locking fluid Loctite Type 270 or similar.
Grease with EP additives. Approx. 4 dm 3.

Hook size 20–32: Allen key M8.

Wrench with yaw size 205 mm.

Hook size 50: Allen key M8.

Allen key M10.
Wrench with yaw size 240 mm.

Disassembly

1. Loosen the locking plate "A" by unscrewing the
screws (2 pcs). Use a hexagon socket screw
key. See Fig. 2.
Hook size 20 – 50: Thread M8. Key size 5 mm.
2. Remove locking plate "A".
3. Unscrew counter-clockwise the suspension
device of the swivel body. You may need to
fabricate a wrench with correct yaw size. See
Fig. 3.
Hook size 20 – 32: Yaw size 205 mm.
Hook size 50: Yaw size 240 mm.

4. The complete package consisting hook,

suspension device, bearing, hook nut, locking
plate "B" and screws, must be pulled out of the
Tool swivel body. Do not damage the threads!

5. Place the package on a clean surface.

9. Remove bearing and suspension device from
hook. See Fig. 6.
10. Degrease and clean all parts before
reassembling. Empty the swivel body of grease
and clean it carefully.

12. Remount the hook nut clockwise until the
machined slot reaches the slot of the hook. The
surfaces must be on an equal level.
13. Place locking plate "B" in the slot.
14. Mount the screws in locking plate "B". Use
locking fluid Loctite Type 270 or similar.
Hook size 20 – 32: Tightening torque 23 Nm.
Hook size 50: Tightening torque 46 Nm.

Suspension device 15. The package can now be refitted into the swivel
body.

16. Screw the suspension clockwise into the swivel

body until it reaches its original position.

17. Refit locking plate "A" to swivel body. See Fig. 2.

Use locking fluid Loctite Type 270 or similar.
Hook size 20 – 50: Tightening torque 23 Nm.

18. Lubricate the swivel until grease comes out

between suspension and hook. See Fig. 8.
Use a grease with EP additives, like "SHELL
Alvania EP 2" or similar. The swivel is now ready

11. Replace the bearing by placing the ring marked

"GS" against the suspension side. See Fig. 7.

Note: Difference between ring "GS" and ring

"WS".
