A. The Meaning of Educational Leadership

According to Carter V. Good:

1. The ability and readiness to inspire, guide, direct, or manage others


2. The role of interpreter of interest and objectives of the group, to grow up
recognizing and accepting the interpreter as spokesman.

Leadership is the ability and readiness of a person to be able to influence,


encourage, invite, lead, move, direct, and if necessary, force the person or group
to receive the influence and then do something that can help to achieve a certain
goal that has been set.

Education Leadership is the quality of activities and integration in the


educational situation. So can be concluded that educational leadership is the
ability to implement and drive the implementation of education, so that the
educational goals that have been set achieved.

B. The Function of Educational Leader

The main function of education leader is to decide and work as follow as:

a. Help create an atmosphere of brotherhood, cooperation.


b. Provide stimulation and help in setting and explain the purpose.
c. Establish work procedures.
d. Responsible for taking decisions together with the group.
e. Responsible for developing and maintaining the organization's existence
defined educational goals which should be achieved.
C. The Types of Education Leader

Based on the concept, nature, attitude, and how do the leaders and develop
leadership activities in a work environment that leads, educational leadership can
be classified as follows:

a. Authoritarian
A leader who persevering against group members. According to lead is to
move and force the group in which subordinates or members just follow
and execute the command and should not argue or make suggestions.
b. Laissez-faire
Leaders let subordinates run riot and do not provide control and correction
to the work of his subordinates.
c. Democratic
Leader is in the midst of the group members. Leader is not as an employer
and always trying to stimulate their members to work productively to
achieve a common goal.
d. Pseudo democratic
It appears to be democratic when autocratic. Obtrude in a subtle way.

The ability to see the whole which can be formulate as in the decision,
determining policy and others.

H. Education Leader

There are two kinds of education leader. First is status leader or


formal leader or functional leader. Official leadership of those who occupy
positions in the education organization structure, either they are selected
by the employer or the authorities and selected by the staff. Second,
unofficial leadership can be owned by those who have influence, provide
role models, lead to improvement of working, although they do not occupy
the position of the leader structurally.
Principle as School Leader

The main function of the principal is to create a situation of


teaching and learning so that teachers can teach and students can learn
well. For implement that, the principle should be responsible for the
school administration so that the teaching learning process will be well,
and supervision, so the capacity of the teacher in guiding the student
growth is increasing.

School Leader should stimulate and guide the teacher growth so


that they can carry out their tasks as well as possible in accordance with
the conditions. He also should be responsible to help the teacher to know
the society needs, help teachers develop the curriculum in accordance with
the interests, and the ability and students needs.

How is the Leadership in DHIS ?

It is standard, no peculiar type or strategy in the leadership of DHIS. The school


led by Principal with 3 Vice Principle. The Leader Structure consist of Principle,
3 vice Principle, Staff, Guidance and Counseling. The principle’s tenure is 4
years, and the School’s Program is apply for 5 years.

How to Become The Leader(s) ?

For Principal :

• Interview

For Vice Principle :

• Proposed by the principle

• Qualification assessment by the center institution


What is The Criteria of Principle in DHIS ?

• Comprehend the School and Institution Characteristic

• Comprehend the teaching, learning, and student behavior.

• Capable to solve various problems/cases.

• Good character.

• Capable to nurture.

• Have equality of vision and mission.
