Module TITLE: TRENDS IN EDUCATION

SUMMARY: This is the second module of the Diploma in Innovation and Educational
Technology. ​We will explore new trends in education and discuss practical ideas to
implement new pedagogical theories into the classroom.

PARTICIPANTS: ​This course is addressed to teachers, English Coordinators, School


Heads, and educators willing to explore new trends in education and innovative
practices.

REQUIREMENTS: It Is essential that the participants have an excellent English


Language Proficiency as well as a great comprehension of texts. The participants
should be able to have internet connection as well as a PC to be able to follow the
online courses.

OBJECTIVES:

School leaders need to constantly support innovation and keep abreast of the
changing educational landscape as it moves into the future. In this module
participants will develop an understanding of the latest trends in education and will
develop new skills in innovation. Participants will learn how to equip classrooms with
innovative ideas based on different pedagogical principles.

the other.

TOPICS IN MODULE I: TRENDS IN EDUCATION

UNIT I: TEACHING ONLINE (PART 1)

• Discuss current and future trends in education.


● Explore online platforms for your classroom.
● Explore online tools for your classroom.

UNIT II: TEACHING ONLINE (PART 2)

• Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of remote teaching.


• Planning online teaching.
• Online assessment resources.

UNIT III: BUILDING GLOBAL CITIZENS


• ​Global classroom connections.
• Bringing empathy into the classroom.
• ​Develop an understanding of global issues.

UNIT IV: BLENDED LEARNING


• Discuss the concept of blended learning.
• Understand the benefits of blended learning.
• Explore how to enhance classroom instruction with blended learning.

UNIT V: MOBILE LEARNING


• Mobile Learning case studies.
• Evaluate educational apps.
• Explore lesson plans integrating mobile learning.

UNIT VI: FLIPPED CLASSROOM


• Explore the flipped learning framework.
• Analize different apps and web tools to create flipped videos.
• Create a flipped lesson plan.

UNIT VII:PROJECT-BASED LEARNING
• Learn how to use project-based planning tools in the classroom.
• Learn how to apply and modify the use of rubrics to measure student achievement.
• Exchange good practices on project-based learning.

UNIT VIII: IMMERSIVE READER


• Explore the advantages of assistive technology in education.
• How to use the Immersive Reader with Dyslexic students.
• Learn how to maximize the use of digital tools to meet diverse learning needs.

DURATION OF EACH MODULE: 60 HOURS (2 months)

TUTORIAL GUIDANCE:

The professor will guide the assistants through the whole course. The assistants will
be able to ask their queries at all times during the course.

EVALUATION:

The participants will be evaluated during each unit. They will take a final
EVALUATION at the end of the course as well. The professor may decide to take into
consideration other activities done in class as part of the EVALUATION process.

METHODOLOGY

The methodology of each unit that compose each unit is the following:

● Reading of the bibliography and documents


● Participation in the different forums
● Participation in the online classes if possible
● Tutorial videos
● 1 online class each week with the tutor in charge

All the study material and the messages that will be exchanged will be available
during the whole weeks while the course is still being held. The shared documents
are printable material and you will have access to those during the course. All the
printable material will be published in PDF format. The participants should have
access to all the tutorials that the tutor may upload in each module to complement
the reading of the bibliography.

TIMETABLE

The course is composed of 8 units. Each unit shall take a total of 8 hours
approximately taking into consideration that the online class each week is of 1 hour.
You may need 4 hours of study of the material and the completion of the different
tasks, questionnaires and evaluations.

The course shall be available during 2 months from the starting date of the course.

Jennifer Verschoor ​holds a degree in Literary,


Technical and Legal Translation as well as a Bachelor's degree in Educational
Management, English Teaching and ICT in the Classroom validated by Trinity College

London. She holds an MA in Virtual Environments and a Specialization in Education
and ICT offered by the Ministry of Education in Argentina. She is the co-author of My
First Digital Journey, an ebook published by The Round in December 2012. She has
experience working for the British Council in Argentina and Chile, ESSARP,
Universidad Tecnológica Nacional, Cambridge English and SimpleK12 giving teacher
training courses on the integration of ICT. She has been hired by SBS International to
co-moderate TIC en el AULA, nominated for an ELTon Award in 2013 under the
category Local Innovation. Currently she is working as the Head of Innovation and
Educational Technology at St Andrew`s Scots School in Buenos Aires.

the 300 most innovative teachers according to Microsoft.
