You are on page 1of 14

Good morning respected principal, respected teachers and my dear friends!

First of all, I would like to welcome all of

you on this annual day of our school. Every year we celebrate this day with great enthusiasm and lot of happiness.

While the students are excited to get promoted to the next class, there is also a regret of leaving the memories of the
previous class. It’s a great pleasure to be given this opportunity to host the program and deliver the speech. Today
my topic is “discipline”.

Even though we all are aware of the dictionary meaning of this term, but how many of us actually follow our inner
instinct?

Discipline means doing the things in the moral and ethical manner, school is the second place after our home where
we learn discipline. Discipline is basically the suppression of base desires and is often understood to be similar to self-
restraint and control. A disciplined person always chose the best course of action irrespective of other’s wishes. The
honest behaviour is another form of discipline; it can be described as when one’s values and aims are aligned with
each other.

School discipline has a very important role to play in an individual’s life it is a necessary set of actions adopted by a
teacher towards a student or a group of students, if the ongoing class has been disrupted due to the student’s
behavior or if the student breaks any particular rule created by the school authority. Discipline is basically for guiding
the children’s behaviour, setting the limits and ultimately helps them learn to care for themselves and others.

While discipline is very necessary to condition students; teachers should be mindful not to beat students to the
extent that they can be hurt. It is also called corporal punishment. Recently many reports indicate that many teachers
get violent in the name of discipline and they harm students physically as well as mentally. Thus, the focus of
discipline is now shifting and other approaches are evolved due to all these incidents.

The discipline is extremely important in every phase of life if we see the army they are in strict discipline. It is never
possible for them to fight without strict discipline. There is no educational institution to run without discipline. So this
proves that being disciplined in life is very important part of our life.

Nature is also very disciplined, everything in this world is excepted to follow the discipline. Sun always rises in the
morning from east direction and sets at evening in south direction every day. It never changes the time and place
because it follows the discipline, the river always run and much more. The time and clock never wait for anyone.
To be successful in life everybody needs to follow certain discipline in their life. To lead life happily and successfully
maintain an authentic lifestyle without any distraction. Discipline yourself and leave behind an inspiring story of
success for others.

I hope that you all have understood the importance of discipline and you all will change your thoughts and try to
maintain your discipline and focus on your life.

Thank you!

Respected Principal, Respected Teachers and My Dear Friends!

First of all, I would like to welcome all of you to the annual day of our school. Every year we celebrate this
day with a lot of enthusiasm and fervor. While at one side, students are excited to get promoted to the next
class, there is also a regret of leaving the memories of the previous class.

It’s a great pleasure to be given this opportunity to host the programme and deliver the speech. The topic
that I chose this year is ‘Discipline’.

Even though, we all are aware of the dictionary meaning of this term, but how many of us actually follow
our inner instinct?

Discipline means ‘doing the things in the moral and ethical manner’. School is the second place after our
home, where we learn discipline. Discipline is basically the suppression of base desires and is often
understood to be similar to self – restraint and control. Disciplined person determines the best course of
action irrespective of one’s wishes. Honest behavior is another form of discipline; it can be described as
when one’s values and aims are aligned with each other.

School discipline has a very important role to play in an individual’s life. It is a necessary set of actions
adopted by a teacher towards a student or group of students, if the ongoing educational activity has been
disrupted due to the student’s behavior or if the student breaks any particular rule created by the school
authority. Discipline basically guides the children’s behavior, sets limits and ultimately helps them learn to
care for themselves and others.
Discipline can come in several forms. School systems make rules and regulations and if any student breaks
these rules, they are subject to punishment; which ultimately is aimed to teach discipline to the student.
The school rules may include defining the expected clothing standards, social conduct, timekeeping and
work ethic.

While discipline is necessary to condition the students; teachers should be mindful not to beat students to
the extent that they get badly hurt. It is also called corporal punishment. Several reports indicate that some
teachers get violent in the name of discipline harming students physically and mentally. Thus, the focus of
discipline is now shifting and substitute approaches are evolving due to all these incidents.

Many schools now-a-days focuses on ‘Positive Discipline’; it’s a discipline model that emphasizes on the
positive aspects of behavior, found on the concept that there are no bad students, just bad and good
behaviors. Accordingly, you can reinforce the good behaviors through counseling and examples
without hurting the child. People promoting positive disciplines don’t ignore the problems rather tackle the
problem peacefully.

Discipline is also required in our professional life and thus it is all the more important. Like a company
cannot be successful without a proper strategy, we also can’t succeed without certain rules and discipline in
our life. Inculcating good habits like waking up early, doing regular exercise, eating healthy food, not
indulging into bad habits like smoking, drinking, etc would keep us healthy and fit.

Thus, it is important that we remain disciplined in every aspect of our life.

Thank you!

SPEECH ON DISCIPLINE – 3
Good morning everybody!

My topic for today’s session is on explaining as to what ‘Discipline’ means and how important it is for all of
us to adhere to it.

What do you all think that discipline means? Alright, till the time that you people collate your thoughts I
would share my views on this.

Discipline is a very basic necessity for one’s progress. Being disciplined does not mean that you follow every
rule that you are asked to. It means having self control and ability to adjust yourself as per the changing
trends and instructions. Being disciplined will always give you the genuine pleasure of freedom. Ask
yourselves, isn’t it that the student or the employee who is disciplined never ever kept at doubt. That
person is always given the freedom for their actions, as everybody knows that they have complete control
on themselves and are mature enough for decision implementation.

Discipline is extremely necessary in all spheres of our life. Just imagine, is it ever possible for an army to
fight without strict discipline? Is there any educational institution to run without discipline? No, right! So, this
proves that being disciplined is very crucial and important element of everybody’s life.

We all need to have a destined disciplinary routine in order to work well in our personal and professional
life. We should monitor each and every small action of ours. From eating on time and in right quantity to
sleep at right time for sufficient hours. Everything needs to be taken care of for living a healthy and wise life.
One must practice self control in order to position themselves in terms of their health, wealth and overall
society that they live in.

We inherit discipline in us by seeing others. Since our childhood it is our parents and grandparents seeing
whom we build our daily routine and do day to day activities. I have observed this many a times that people
following due discipline get a high end support from others during the times when needed. To have a
progressive and stable life we must make sure that we follow a disciplined life. We should act as a
motivation for all those who are around us. Seeing us stable, peaceful, happy and determined towards our
actions due to our specific disciplined flow of life we will attract good people towards us. Our in built
gestures towards dedication help us move forward towards our achievements as the disciplined person is
way too planned in their actions and task executions.

There is no stage of life that offers you a healthy happy life if you are not disciplined. Practice discipline
everyday and I assure you as per my personal experience that everything that you wish for will come your
way. Things that seem difficult will be just so easy and convenient for each one of you when you mould
your life in discipline.

Thank you for taking out your time and listening to this most important topic. Hope you implement it now
itself in your life. Take care and good luck!

Thank You!

PARAGRAPH ON DISCIPLINE 1 (100 WORDS)

Discipline is a valuable quality. If you are disciplined you can complete your school assignments and submit
them on time. Being time-conscious helps you achieve your targets with excellence. You can also reach your
goals easily. If you do not waste your time on useless and irrelevant activities, you can use your time
productively and gainfully to complete what is important to achieve your goals.

Besides punctuality, being orderly in doing your activities and assignments helps you work with discipline.
Working in a haphazard manner leads to wasting of time and energy. Following rules is also essential for
developing discipline.

PARAGRAPH ON DISCIPLINE 2 (150 WORDS)

Discipline helps in the easy and efficient completion of your work. Working with discipline makes you do the
activity most suited to the hour. As a student you need to study. It is best to study in the early hours of the
morning when the mind is fresh after a full night’s sleep. If you wake up late you lose out on the most
productive time of the day. Likewise, if you engage in useless and wasteful activities, you fail to do what is
important to reach your desired goals. It is, therefore, good to draw up a practicable time-table and work
according to it.

Working in an orderly fashion helps in developing discipline. If you work in a systematic and organised way,
you can accomplish your work more easily. You can also avoid getting stressed out. You can be disciplined
by following rules. This will make your work simple.

PARAGRAPH ON DISCIPLINE 3 (200 WORDS)

One must keep one’s goal in sight and work toward reaching it. Discipline helps one reach one’s goal.
Discipline can be developed by working in a systematic manner. For this one must keep one’s space of work
neat and uncluttered. This gives clarity to one’s mind too. It is best to do one thing at a time. This helps in
the efficient completion of the task at hand. Doing many activities together creates unnecessary confusion,
and one cannot derive the best from doing many activities at the same time.

It is good to draw up a practicable time-table according to the goal one wants to achieve. Drawing up a
schedule for each day for oneself makes it easy to be disciplined. One must stick to the time-table one
draws for oneself otherwise the purpose is defeated. When one is lazy one cannot be disciplined. The
attainment of one’s goals also becomes difficult.
Discipline requires that one follow the rules according to the activity one is engaged in. If one is driving on
the road, for instance, traffic rules need to be obeyed. Similarly, at school, one needs to follow the rules that
are laid down for students by the school.

PARAGRAPH ON DISCIPLINE 4 (250 WORDS)

Discipline is a value that we must develop in childhood. Discipline inculcated when one is a child helps one
through life.

Discipline can be developed by being time-conscious. If we are punctual in all that we do, we can attain our
goals. It is when we are lazy, and do not stick to required time frames that we fail to achieve our targets.

We must be particular about doing the right activity at the right time. We must go to school at the right
time. If we are late we suffer due to this indiscipline. Not only do we get reprimanded at school, we also lose
out on our studies by being late for class.

Similarly, if we have assignments and projects to submit at school, we must complete them on time.
Otherwise we shall lag behind and not be able to stay with the pace of the class.

It is easy to develop discipline if we draw up a time-table for ourselves and work accordingly. The time-table
must be drawn according to our goals. Discipline is possible when we do not waste our time on useless and
wasteful activities, and instead engage in meaningful and purposeful activities.

Discipline also requires working in an organised way. If we work in a haphazard way without a systematic
completion of our tasks, there will be confusion and no success is possible. We must keep our possessions
like books in an organised way so that we can access them easily without wasting time.

PARAGRAPH ON DISCIPLINE 5 (300 WORDS)

Discipline is a value that is best inculcated during one’s childhood. Without discipline one may fail to reach
one’s goals.

Being punctual is necessary to be disciplined

One who is disciplined is always punctual. Being time-conscious is a sign of discipline. Discipline requires
being on time. If we go late to school we are reprimanded. We also lose out on our studies if we are late at
class. Similarly, if we fail to complete our home work and assignments that we need to submit at school, we
lag behind. We cannot move ahead along with the class and we fail to score good grades at school.

Discipline requires that we do the right activity at the right time. For this we need to draw up a practicable
time-table for ourselves and stick to it. If we need to go to school on time, we must wake up early and get
ready at the right time. If we waste time in useless activities and fail to have a good night’s sleep, we cannot
have a fresh mind in the morning when we wake up.

Discipline helps us reach our goals in life. By keeping one’s goal in sight, one can work in a focussed way
towards it. Working with commitment and dedication is possible when we are disciplined.

Discipline can be developed by following rules

When we are disciplined we follow rules. Whatever the activity we engage in, there are rules to follow.
Likewise, if we are part of any institution or organization, we must follow the rules that have been laid
down. Success is possible only if we follow the rules. If we are riding a bike or driving a car, we need to
follow traffic rules. If we go to a school, we need to follow all the rules of study, attendance, and
participation in various activities of the school.  Orderliness also reflects discipline.

PARAGRAPH ON DISCIPLINE 6 (350 WORDS)

Discipline helps us accomplish our tasks and activities in an efficient way. We must be disciplined in every
phase and activity of our life. Being disciplined helps one meet with success.

By following rules we develop discipline

Discipline requires that we follow the rules that are laid down whatever we may be doing. Following road
rules, for instance, is important. If we have to cross a road we need to do so at the pedestrian crossing. If
we disobey the rule, it would be dangerous.

Similarly, we must obey and respect the rules that are laid down by the organization we are part of. If we
study in a school or educational institution, we must follow all the rules of attendance and study. If we take
a holiday we need to submit a leave application. Likewise, if we want to use facilities like the laboratory,
computer room and sports fields at school, we need to follow the rules laid down for their use.

Orderliness leads to discipline

If we are part of any social, business, political, spiritual or cultural organization, we need to follow the rules
for its smooth and harmonious functioning. We also have to follow the rules and laws of the country we
belong to. If all the citizens of a country engage in unlawful activities there will be chaos in the entire
country.

By obeying rules not only do we derive benefit from a facility or service but also make sure there is no
disturbance or destruction to it or to other people using it. There is, therefore, greater harmony and
orderliness when everyone is disciplined.

Discipline allows the judicious use of time

We can also become more disciplined by doing the right activity at the right time. We thus use the time
available to us in a judicious manner. Instead of wasting time in irrelevant activities, we apply our efforts
and energies for achieving our goals.

As a student we need to be time-conscious so we may reach school on time. We must complete our
assignments and projects on time. Similarly, if we have an appointment at a particular time we must be
punctual to reach on time. Lack of punctuality shows indiscipline.

PARAGRAPH ON DISCIPLINE 7 (400 WORDS)

Discipline is an important value we must develop in ourselves. It is a value that can help us be efficient in
the work we do. Discipline helps us succeed in any undertaking. Discipline is best inculcated in childhood. It
then helps us through life.

Punctuality makes us disciplined

One who is disciplined is time-conscious and punctual. Being punctual helps us complete our tasks in time.
If we are slow and inefficient we lose out on completing our tasks and reaching our goals on time.

When we are time-conscious we keep to time frames. This requires doing every task in the accomplishment
of a goal in the right time and in the most efficient way. This is possible when we do not waste time in
wasteful and useless activities. If we spend our time productively, we would succeed in achieving our goals.

If we do not keep to time, we would be late in every activity. If we get up late in the morning, for instance,
we will be late for school. As a result, we would be reprimanded at school. Being late for class also means
that we may miss out on our studies or lose out on other curricular and extra-curricular activities on which
our assessment at the end of the year depends.
Proper utilization of time builds discipline
Discipline requires that we make the most of the time available to us to complete a task or finish an activity
so that we can attain our particular goal. We must, therefore, be clear on the goal to be attained. Unless we
set our goal we cannot determine the best path to achieve it.

Once we set our goal, we must try to do our activities in such a way that we do the right thing at the right
time. For instance, we must engage in study and learning in the early hours of the morning. This is the time
when the mind is most fresh after a good night’s sleep. If we are lazy, and oversleep, we miss out on the
most productive hours of the day.

Laziness leads to indiscipline

Laziness is the cause of indiscipline and inability to complete a task on time. We must avoid being lazy, and
do our tasks without procrastination.

Discipline requires that we follow a time-table. We must draw up a time-table that is practicable, and must
then stick to it. If we seek to achieve excellence in whatever we do, we must always be disciplined.

PARAGRAPH ON DISCIPLINE 8 (600 WORDS)

Discipline is taken from old Latin word “discipulus” which means to control the way of living, working, and
behaving in a fixed manner to achieve the objectives. In other words discipline means to develop behaviour
by instructions and practice; especially by self-control. Discipline acquires an important place in the life of
all living beings. Nature itself shows discipline in its behaviour. No one can imagine a good and prosperous
life without discipline. It is not a subject of teaching but it can be learnt by endurance and perseverance by
your own.

Kinds of Discipline
We can’t put discipline in others. Either it is persuaded by others or can be learnt by itself which is called
self- discipline. Just a person has to practice it and to include it in her/his habit. Animals and nature show it
in their behaviour. Even the sun and the moon rise and set on the stipulated schedule. They never show
negligence. Self-discipline saves us from this carelessness and gives us courage.

Importance of Discipline in Life

Discipline plays a vital role in the life of every human being. It gives us power to face every circumstance in
an individual’s life. A disciplined man can use his time to sort out the problems and solve them in such a
manner that seems very easy. It is a source of inspiration and differentiates between right and wrong.
Time is not only the matter of concern but it needs in every aspect of life. A disciplined student always
scores good marks in examinations, a disciplined employee is always admired by her/his boss, a disciplined
soldier brings good fortune, and disciplined people set an example for the upcoming generations as well. A
country is also based on the conduct and behaviour of its citizen not for its infrastructures. A country with
disciplined people develops in a short period of time. Japan is an example.

How Discipline Impacts People’s Life

Discipline leaves a deep impact on the life of a person, people, society, and the nation. It is an achieved
virtue which teaches the importance of time, behaviour, conduct, truth and righteousness. A well
disciplined man can know her/his liabilities and can perform well in her/his life.

Best Examples of Discipline

We have many examples on the effect of discipline. Mahatma Gandhi was a strict follower of discipline and
won freedom for India. All great men became popular due to discipline in their life. A beehive is a good
example of that. Bees show discipline among them and never deviate from their stipulated tasks to
produce food. A disciplined student is always admired by her/his teachers and parents; a disciplined
employee who reaches her/his office on time wins the trust of her/his seniors. As a disciplined farmer can
grow better crops and take more yields.

Need of Self Discipline in our Life

In order to follow discipline a person has to become punctual, honest, and self-reliant. It can be developed
by previous experiences and by the example set by others. For an undisciplined person it seems difficult
but if she/he makes efforts to gain it all the obstacles of her/his path may disappear.

It needs a lot of patience and efforts to become a habit. In all aspects of life self- discipline is required. A
self-disciplined person can achieve success in every field of life and can set an example for others.

In above context we can say that happiness of life depends on discipline. Without discipline one can’t
imagine a better prospect in life. We all should have to inculcate discipline in our life by itself or by other
means from our early childhood following the lives of the great men for overall success.

VALUE OF DISCIPLINE IN STUDENT LIFE SPEECH – 2

Respected Teachers and Dear Students – I welcome you all to the monthly speech giving ceremony of our
institute!
I feel extremely elated at the fact that our institute has successfully completed 5 years and since then my
association with this place is going strong. I wish many more such years of continued success and growth
and hope we continue to nurture the youth of our country with knowledge and right values. Today, as one
of the senior faculty members of this institute, I am here to host this ceremony and deliver a succinct
speech on discipline for all my students given the fact that it has become the need of the hour as in present
times our youth is somewhat living an erratic lifestyle and are flouting rules and codes of behavior.

We should always remember that time is money and if we will destroy time then time will destroy us! So
discipline is required in every walk of life no matter we are a student or not. Discipline is the very essence of
our lives and if we do away with it then certainly negative impact on our future prospects would follow.
Though whiling away time will give you temporary pleasure, but in the end it will result in only a painful
experience. It, therefore, becomes important to discipline our lives right from the beginning and make it a
basis of conducting our lives.

In fact, discipline is required not only at all stages of life, but in every sphere of life too. For instance, an
army cannot imagine its existence without it and so enforces strict discipline in their department and
divisions with zero toleration policy. An educational institute too cannot function without it; this is the
reason why fixed hours are allocated to both the teachers and students and each one is made to follow the
suite so that the rules and regulation of the institution are kept intact. Likewise, in corporate, courts,
auditoriums, including even the small private firms discipline has to be maintained in order to preserve the
sanctity of the place. In hospitals, the visitors are allowed only at the designated hours beyond which no
visitors are entertained. Even for a small thing as paying your electricity bill or the telephone bill or buying a
movie ticket for that matter, you will have to stand in a queue and get your work done.

When it comes to our personal lives, we cannot afford complete luxury and some sort of discipline has to
be maintained for a stable and meaningful life. For instance, if you succumb to temptation and over eat
things, your stomach will get upset. Similarly, if you watch television till late night, you will start feeling
unwell the next morning. If you do not discipline yourself in your studies and distract yourself, then you’re
not likely to fare well in your exams.

So in a nutshell, life is best enjoyed when discipline is observed. Nothing gives satisfaction in life when the
very essence of living life is missing and our existence becomes mere animal-like. In the end, I would just
request our students to not let anyone impose rules in your life; rather observe self-discipline, systematize
yourself and reap the fruits of benefits out of it.

Thank You!

VALUE OF DISCIPLINE IN STUDENT LIFE SPEECH – 3
Good Morning Respected Principal, Respected Teachers and My Dear Student!

Today, this special assembly is organized for the purpose of discussion about discipline among students. As
a teacher in this school, it’s my duty to make students realize the importance of discipline in their lives. So,
before I begin, I would like to explain you that what is discipline? Discipline is actually a controlled behaviour
of a person who follows every rules and regulations and it does not matter where he/she is. These days,
discipline among students is decreasing and it is a very problematic situation which needs to be solved.

Discipline is the first thing in the life of a student which leads him/her to the way of success. The reason for
setting up rules and regulations in the school is to teach students about what is discipline and maintain
discipline among them. In the early stage of a student when he starts from prep, this is the time where the
teaching of discipline begins and parents play an important role in maintaining discipline in their child
because a child only spends maximum eight hours in the school and rest of the time with his parents. It is
very important to understand the importance of discipline in our lives. Discipline is not important only for
children but it is important in every person’s life.

If we talk about maturity, self discipline is very important to learn. It helps us to govern and rule ourselves.
This is the hardest task among all. Existence of a good school is only possible if there is discipline because it
is the first purpose of sending children to school for parents. Just think that, if students can do whatever
they want to do in their schools then it will become impossible for the teachers to teach. Many students
miss their school without a justified reason or permission of their parents or teachers.

I have got many complaints from students that they are not able to study in their class because of the
disruption created by their classmates. This is because of the lack of discipline among students. This
responsibility is not only of the school. It is the responsibility of parents, schools and government. There
should be some measures taken by the government. There should be a penalty for unjustified short
attendance holders. There should be strict rules in the school for proper behaviour.

But sometimes, the reason behind the bad behaviour of a student is his/her family situation and personal
problems. Many of the time, students are not able to explain their problems to anyone and thus they get
frustrated and cause bad behaviour in them and teachers has the responsibility to understand the cause of
the bad behaviour in the students and they should not neglect their responsibility. Thus, I just want to say
that we all should understand the responsibility towards maintaining discipline among students and then
only this problem would be solved.

On this note, I would like to conclude my speech and I hope that from now onwards all of you will try to
maintain discipline in your lives.
Thank you and have a good day!

VALUE OF DISCIPLINE IN STUDENT LIFE SPEECH – 4

Good Morning Respected Principal, Respected Teachers and My Dear Students!

As we all know that from today onwards the new session will start and there will be new classrooms, new
students and of course new studies and I wish you all good luck for your new journeys. Before the regular
day began, I would like to address some of the issues that were seen constantly during the whole last year
and it needs a solution so that it would not happen this year. The problem is regarding the lack of discipline
among students that projects a bad image in front of the outsiders and creates issues for teachers and
other staff. It has become very necessary to teach students discipline strictly.

As your sports trainer, it’s my duty to teach you the lesson of discipline because in sports discipline is a
necessity. First of all, education is all about learning discipline and gaining knowledge. Discipline is all about
the respect and it means the respect towards rules and regulation or the respect towards a person. If there
is no discipline then there will be no respect.

In school principal, teachers and the whole staff deserve respect and when you are outside of the school
then your neighbors and everyone else deserves respect. The first step to discipline is to learn to obey
other people and rules and regulations of the place where you go. Discipline also means to behave in a
good manner such as following the proper dress routine of the school daily because it is seemed many
times that there are many students who does not wear school uniform properly and does not get their nails
cut etc. All these problems are the cause of lack of discipline.

The biggest problem that came out from the lack of discipline is truancy. Many children miss their school
for no clear reason and without the permission of teachers. It is the responsibility of parents to make sure
that their child is attending school regularly or not. Lack of attendance is a sign of unorganized family or of
their bad conditions.

There should be some rules and regulations for the students who are lacking in attendance and a good
behavior in the school. On an unjustified absence of the student in the school, the fine will be charged.
Penalty should be charged for the bad behavior such as suspension etc.

Punishments and penalty is not only the solution of this problem but it needs students to understand the
value of discipline in their lives because it is the only thing that will help them to focus on their future goals.
Without a proper disciplined life it is quite impossible to achieve success. Having fun with your friends and
family is also important but it does not mean to neglect your responsibility towards school because in life,
everything is important but discipline is must.

On this note, I would like to conclude my speech and I wish you all a great day ahead!

Thank you!
